dely | 5488 comments These are the books I already have and that I will go to read next year:

1) "Casi" by Daniil Charms (I was not able to find the title in english)
2) "The book of imaginary beings" by Jorge Luis Borges
3) "Praise of folly" by Erasmus Roterodamus
4) "Civil disobedience" by Henry David Thoreau
5) "Ramayana" by R.K. Narayan
6) "Sri Aurobindo, or the Adventure of Consciousness" by Satprem
7) "Rino Gaetano live" by E. Di Marco (I don't think it exists a copy in english because it is a biografy of an italian singer-writer of the '70-'80 who unfortunately died very young. He wrote songs about the bad habits of italians, the corruption in politic and he was very extravagant and countercurrent for the age in which he lived).
8) "The ice princess" by Camilla Lackberg

I don't know in which order I will read them, it depends of my state of mind.

Next year I want also begin to read some books of indian writers and I would like to read books like Shiva-Samhita, Gheranda-Samhita, Hatha Yoga Pradipika, some Upanishad and a book who introduces to Mahabharata. Then I would like also find a book who talks about all the hindu divinities and their stories and simbolysm.

I want also go on reading russian litterature and so continue with Dostoevskij and begin with Tolstoj and Gogol.

Well, I hope to have enough time!

Good list, Dely

message 3: by dely (new)

dely | 5488 comments Thank you.
I have forgotten to fit in the books I have to finish: "Yogasutra" of Patanjali, "Chakra" by Albanese and "Yoga and psicanalisys".

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

Dely seriously u read more of these "Indian" books than any of us do!!

message 5: by dely (new)

dely | 5488 comments Ahahah, really? One day I will teach you! :D
Seriously, they are not easy to understand because for me who has another background I find informations that are difficult to assimilate. Perhaps for you it is easier because you already know the difference between manas and buddhi, purusha and prakriti...you know the samskara, the oblations to do during puja, the whole story of Shiva... For me everything is new.

message 6: by Prerak (new)

Prerak indeed it is new for you but you know...the words you use makes us feel if we really are indians or not? i mean...Manas, Buddhi, Purush, Samskara...God!

message 7: by dely (new)

dely | 5488 comments Yes, God and the way to join him.
But I have not understood what you mean: it is bad that my words let you feel indians? Is it offensive for you or a reason to be proud of your culture?

message 8: by Prerak (new)

Prerak Naaaaaaaa!!!! it rather feeels great to have you sharing our culture with usss!!!! :-)

message 9: by Prerak (new)

Prerak it's a reason to be PROUD of our culture! Don't worry Dely, we are with you!

message 10: by dely (new)

dely | 5488 comments Good, I can relax. Thank you.
I have often fear that with my not perfect english perhaps I write something wrong and somebody could get offended.

message 11: by Meenakshi (new)

Meenakshi (mcoolshi) | 1965 comments @Dely it is very difficult to know what is in your words but it is easy to know what is in your heart..
by the way I guess I was among the few who understood the meaning of those words..

Thank you very very much. The things you have written are important for me because I really joined this group "in peace" and I am interested to know and learn a culture who interests me, for which i feel much respect and from which I feel attracted. So I thought that the best thing to do was to interact with you and even if my english is bad, I am "brave" (and perhaps a little bit crazy!) and so I joined you here even if I can't english very well. I think if we want to understand and improve knowledge of a country or a culture it is to mingle with it. I think I am so crazy that if I once will come to India I will come there with a lot of dictionaries of hindi, gujarat, tamil...and I would try to speak all these languages! But not for ridicule but to feel me free to interact and feel one of you.
The most important thing is that you have seen in my heart that I have good intentions. I hope also to improve my english but unfortunately I am only able to translate literally the things I think in italian and then write in english.
Thanks to everybody to have accepted me.

welcome, Dely. Each of us will have something or the other to share with you about India. It is a vast country - geographically as well as culturally and each of our outputs may show you different aspects of India. Meanwhile we will learn of Italy and its culture from you.

Muddle head (adic) | 4646 comments hi Dely, i don't know how to say this, but never feel un-welcome here in this group! Thank you, you are right! Yes, I am too paranoiac and I often think that nobody wants me, that I'm boring, unbearable and much more. But these things also when I am on an italian website. I am often in the dumps!

message 20: by Akanksha (new)

Akanksha Singh (akankshasingh92) | 1414 comments Hmmm.....you want to know a secret??!! Stop thinking about gaining acceptance, just be yourself and people will automatically love you and respect you for who you are! And if you keep smiling that helps too :-D

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

message 28: by dely (last edited Jan 05, 2011 08:28AM) (new)

dely | 5488 comments Yesterday I have finished to read "Chakra, the universe in us". 3/5

It is not a bad. It is a little guide with the basic informations about chakra.
Now I have yet to finish "Yoga and psychoanalysis" and then I can star reading the new books.
I have also to finish "Yogasutra" of Patanjali but they are really difficult also because I have the one with the commentary of Taimni, one of the most difficult one. I think I will never finish it but I don't want to buy an easier version of it.

message 29: by dely (last edited Jan 05, 2011 08:25AM) (new)

dely | 5488 comments I have finished "Yoga and psychoanalysis" of Luigi Ioverno. 3/5

Not bad. He talks about the points in common between yoga and psychoanalysis but says also that with yoga men go forward because they can begin to feel the spiritual who is in every human being. Psychoanalysis doesn't take a proposal about spirituality even if it is important for our welfare. Yoga and psychoanalysis can work together for our health and where psychoanalysis stops yoga goes on.

message 30: by Prerak (new)

Prerak Dely i have a question for you!

message 31: by dely (new)

dely | 5488 comments Ask me what you want.

message 32: by Prerak (new)

Prerak do you prefer non-fiction more than fiction?

message 33: by dely (new)

dely | 5488 comments I like both and I need both.
Between two books about yoga I must read something "light". In fact the next book I will read will be fiction even if I still don't know which one I will read. Perhaps "The ice princess" even if I don't like such kinds of books but it was a Christmas present of a friend of mine and I will read it for her, I had never bought it.

message 34: by Prerak (new)

Prerak Okay! Cuz u r among the very few persons i know who prefer non-fiction!

message 35: by dely (new)

dely | 5488 comments It's because I want to learn and I want to grow-up looking into myself.
Even fiction, I don't like superficial stories but mostly I like books who speak about state of mind, suffering, rescue from suffering and such things; books who look deep in the soul of every one of us taking out troubles we know but we can't give them a name or explain. It is because of this that my preferit writer is Dostoevskji.

message 36: by Prerak (new)

Prerak are there any english translations of this writer's books?

message 37: by dely (new)

dely | 5488 comments Do you mean Dostoevskji? I have seen only now that in english his name is written Dostoyevsky.

Look here http://www.goodreads.com/author/list/...

If you have never read something of him it is better to begin with some short stories. If you like them you can read something longer like "The Insulted and Humiliated" and then you can read some of his masterpieces. My favourite one is "The Idiot" but I must still read "The brothers Karamazov".

message 38: by Muddle head (new)

Muddle head (adic) | 4646 comments Dostoyevsky's crime and punishment is a masterpiece! One of the best i've ever read!

message 39: by Prerak (new)

Prerak suggest me some good short stories of him. i'll read em tonite as a respite from the tension of my tomorrow's exam

message 40: by Akanksha (new)

Akanksha Singh (akankshasingh92) | 1414 comments Lol Prerak Dostoyevsky isn't for light reading!! If you've got an exam tomorrow read something that's short and fun!!
@Adz Crime and Punishment is amazing!

message 41: by dely (new)

dely | 5488 comments Prerak, Aka is right. They aren't so light to read especially a day before an exam.
But here one of my preferits: White Nights, Bobok, The mistress. One day you can read them to see how Dostoyevsky writes; not everybody loves him.

Me too have read Crime and Punishment but I have loved much more The Idiot because the inadequancy of the chief character is point out much better, in my opinion. If you have loved Crime&Punishment you must read also The Idiot and The demons.

message 42: by dely (last edited Jan 05, 2011 02:38PM) (new)

dely | 5488 comments I have began and already gave up reading "The ice princess" after 60 pages.
La principessa di ghiaccio (Patrik Hedström, #1) by Camilla Läckberg

It is obscene, it is banal, it is foregone; it should be a thriller but there is no suspence and nothing that holds you on reading. The characters are like you imagine, like a lot of other characters in ugly books. One time the writer has tryed to create a little bit mistery and suspence but she failed and the only thing that the reader has is resignation.

message 43: by dely (new)

dely | 5488 comments I have began and finished "Civil disobedience" by Henry David Thoreau. 3/5

I have liked it but I thought it would be much better so I was a little bit disappointed.

message 44: by Prerak (new)

Prerak i debated on the topic based on Civil Disobeidience. it was originally published under the title "Resistance to Civil Government" and i found his theories interesting, especially the point that "The Government that governs the least, governs the best!"

Prerak, you are well-read at such a young age. I am quite impressed.

message 46: by dely (new)

dely | 5488 comments Yes, even if he doesn't mean that anarchy should reign. It was interesting to read it and I think I will read also another book of him "Walden".
I like also when he says that the State should be a servant for the people and not that people must serve the State (or something similar). I have the habit to underline the phrases I like more but I can't transcribe them...they are in italian and I can only try to translate them.

message 47: by Prerak (new)

tHANKX!

message 48: by dely (new)

dely | 5488 comments Started reading "Praise of folly" by Erasmus Roterodamus
Elogio della follia by Erasmo da Rotterdam

Till now I am liking it!

message 49: by Meenakshi (new)

Meenakshi (mcoolshi) | 1965 comments what is it about?

message 50: by dely (last edited Jan 09, 2011 04:02AM) (new)

dely | 5488 comments It is a monologue of Folly, she is seen like a divinity and it is like she would speake to a audience.
She (the Folly) says that she is in every one of human being and it's thanks to her that people live better and tolerate much sad things. With a little bit of folly people don't take life too seriously and so they live better. But she is a good folly, not a bad one who brings war or death.
It is not always easy to read and sometimes I must read the same page twice and there are roughly 50 pages only with notes to understand better some sentences of the author. Sometimes it is funny to read because the author says true things with irony and other times he is very sharp with his satire.
