So I have this shirt with rainbow peace signs all over it, and my one friend said the symbol was actually supposed to be a mockery of Christianity. I don't know what I think about that though—I do know that if I wear a peace sign, it's only because I like the design or whatever. But I was wondering what the rest of you think.

Do you think peace signs are a mockery of the cross?

Savannah Hey Check out this link and go to the part about "The Peace Sign"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peace_sy...

I know all the teachers and everyone say that wikipedia is unreliable but I use it all the time.

Politically I'm not pacifist, so it's kind of ironic to wear a liberal sign. :) Though it does say how the symbol came to be—from flags, not an inverted cross. But it turns out this can be perceived as '70s (:D), satanic, or even Nazi…so think about it, things can be misread no matter what you do anyway. The technical approach is confusing :) But I think it comes down to this: it doesn't particularly matter unless you have a personal conviction against that kind of thing.

That's true!!! But I dunno… *types and deletes a few things* It does seem like peace signs are harmless—since if the truth is that they're a satanic symbol, the only harm that could possibly come from a Christian wearing one is that it could send the wrong message…

I'm not trying to disagree with everyone or whatever, but I did start this to discuss it ;)

I don't know that it's Satanic or a mockery of Christianity, but there's whole thing about it's supposed to be like "Yin and Yang" some Japanese/Buddhist/ACK I can't remember thing that's not supposed to be good. And that was sooooo unhelpful, but, LOL, I shall talk to my dad and get him to remind me what it was about that wasn't supposed to be good x)

I've also heard that the peace sign is a satanic symbol. Not saying it is or isn't, just what I've heard.
But the thing is, if it is a satanic symbol, even if alot of people don't think of it that way, it's still representative of Satan. Satan wants us to think sin and mockery of Christ is harmless.
I just think it's safer to stay away from questionable symbols and things. 'When in doubt don't'.

Well, that's a good point. My reasoning is mostly that no one thinks that if they see a girl wearing a peace sign. They don't say, "Oh, she must be mocking Christ."

Sandy, I never said they mock Christ xP They don't have a good background though; ask my dad or your dad sometime. This whole Yin/Yang thing that might be Buddhist; I can't remember. But yeah, just ask one of our dads and they can give you more info than me xD

Oh yeah, the yin yang is definitely no good. It represents that there's good in all evil and evil in all good. In other words, there's evil in God.

Oh Raaaaaaven I never said you said that… ;)

In yin yang, then, there must be no god or all the gods are the same. It just doesn't…make…sense

Hmm, yes, that's true. Unless of course you are atheist or polytheistic...
But then, those beliefs don't really make sense either...
