1. The Solitude of Prime Numbers by Paolo Giordano ****

To be honest this was a bit depressing book, but not bad.

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

I decided to read more comics this year, because I have always liked them but for some reason I didn't really read them that much last year.

2. Milla Paloniemi: En vaan osaa ***
3. Milla Paloniemi: En vaan osaa 2 ***
4. Spirou et Fantasio, tome 30 La Ceinture du grand froid by Raoul Cauvin ***
5. Spirou et Fantasio, tome 31 La Boîte noire by Raoul Cauvin ***
Spirou and Fantasio is one of my favourite comic book series.

6. The Memory Collector (Jo Beckett, #2) by Meg Gardiner **½

I really liked the first book of this series, but somehow this wasn't that good in my opinion. I don't know why I just didn't like this very much.

message 4: by Christy (new)

Christy (christy_t) Looks like you are off to a great start so far!

message 5: by [deleted user] (last edited Jan 09, 2011 08:30AM) (new)

Yes, though it may be because of the fact that I've read so many comics. ;)

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

7. Puut, kaikki heidän vihreytensä by Paavo Haavikko ***

I love poetry! This was the first book by this poet I've read and though it was obviously good it didn't really impress me that much.

8. Spirou et Fantasio, tome 32 Les Faiseurs de silence by Raoul Cauvin ***

9. Spirou et Fantasio, tome 36 L'Horloger de la comète by Tome ***

10. Spirou et Fantasio, tome 37 Le Réveil du Z by Tome ***

I love JCO too! She reminds me of Stephen King in some ways. Everything seems normal and then she goes to this really dark place and it works.

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah, you are right! I so need to read more from her!

message 10: by [deleted user] (last edited Jan 11, 2011 03:24AM) (new)

13. Spirou et Fantasio, Tome 48 L'homme qui ne voulait pas mourir by Jean-David Morvan **

This was surprisingly good Finnish story that partly took place in Tanzania.

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm totally hooked on this series.

Another series to add to the TBR. Sigh, I'll never shorten the TBR this way. Oh well, at least I'll have some good reading. :)

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

I know, my TBR grows faster I can read too. :)

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

16. Spirou et Fantasio, tome 24 Tembo tabou by André Franquin ***

17. Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie ****

I've been reading lately a lot of books that areplaced on Africa. This one was from Nigeria.

Kuutar, this one looks interesting! I love the title too :) I'm a sucker for a good title and cover art!

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

I really liked the book. It's author's debut, her second book Half of a Yellow Sun is more popular I think. I've not yet read that, but I definitely will!

And the good title and especially cover art is always a plus! :)

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

18. Chicken with Plums ****

This is the first one I've read from Marjane Satrapi, but I intend to read her other graphic-novels too. I'm especially interested in Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood and Persepolis 2: The Story of a Return which are her memoir.

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

19. Spirou et Fantasio, Tome 49 Spirou à Tokyo Le ronin de Yoyogi by José-Luis Munuera ***

21. Le journal d'un ingénu (Une aventure de Spirou et Fantasio par..., tome 4) by Émile Bravo ***

22. Pirjo ja kaveri by Paula Noronen ***

And comics again...

Andrea | 4460 comments Mod
Wow, what a great month!!! Are the comics like books that you read and follow the illustrations? I'm not sure if I would enjoy reading like that but I like to try all kinds of books.

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

Well it's because I decided to start read comic books again. ;) And yes, they are illustrated books where the story is told with speech bubbles. Some of them could be called graphic novels I think and some of them are cartoons. I really enjoy reading them but I know it's not everyone's cup of tea. :)

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

23. The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold ****

I really liked this book, it's idea of heaven was interesting.

message 23: by Andrea, Moderator (new)

Andrea | 4460 comments Mod
Kuutar, I loved the Lovely Bones too! I also think that you should read only what you like, bubbles and all!

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

Andrea, that's so true! :)

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

24. Aya of Yop City by Marguerite Abouet ***

Graphic novel about young women in Ivory Coast in the late 1970s.

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

25. Spirou et Fantasio, tome 33 Virus by Tome ***

26. Fun Home A Family Tragicomic by Alison Bechdel ****

Autobiographical graphic novel. I really liked this one.

27. Fractured (Will Trent, #2) by Karin Slaughter ****

What can I say, Karin Slaughter is one of my favourite crime writers and Will Trent is interesting character.

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

28. Karkkipäivä by Markus Nummi ****

This book was The Finlandia Prize nominee 2010, but it didn't win the prize. I haven't read the winner yet, but this was really good.

29. Persepolis The Story of a Childhood (Persepolis, #1) by Marjane Satrapi ****

30. The Sandman The Dream Hunters (Graphic Novel) by Neil Gaiman ****

Neil Gaiman is one of my favourite authors and I love his Sandman comics.

31. Anna Liisa by Minna Canth ***

This play is definitely the classics of Finnish literature.

you may have to increase your goal if you keep reading at this pace :)

message 30: by [deleted user] (new)

That's true. Though it seem that my spring may be a bit busy school wise so my reading pace might be slower then. But we'll see. :)

message 31: by [deleted user] (new)

32. Witness the Night (Beautiful Books) by Kishwar Desai ****

The book is set in small town in India where a young girl is suspected to have murdered 13 members of her family. Social worker Simran seems to be the only one who isn't convinced about her being guilty. The book deals with the heavy issue: The reality where female offspring is not wanted and families try to get rid of them before or after they are born. This was well written and quite sad book though the ending was somewhat hopeful.

message 32: by [deleted user] (new)

33. Think of a Number by John Verdon ****

This was the kind of crime novel I really like. It was mysterious and it held me in its grip until the very last page.

34. Persepolis 2 The Story of a Return (Persepolis, #2) by Marjane Satrapi ****

Second part of Satrapi's autobiographical graphic novels.

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

35. de Kabbalist by Geert Kimpen ****

Fictional book about the kabbalist Rabbi Hayyim Vital.

I just realized that I have Persepolis in one of my piles! I think one of the doctors I work with gave it to me. I'll have to check it out.

message 35: by [deleted user] (new)

Tell me what you thought of it! :)

message 36: by [deleted user] (new)

36. Askungar by Kristina Ohlsson ***½

Swedish crime novel about missing children. Quite good.

message 37: by [deleted user] (last edited Mar 29, 2011 08:40AM) (new)

37. Gourmet Rhapsody by Muriel Barbery ***½

I tried to read The Elegance of the Hedgehog some time ago, but I gave up on reading it pretty quick. Somehow it just didn't really appeal to me then. Regardless I decided to try this one which is her first book. I'm not sure what to think of this. It wasn't bad and it was well written, but still it didn't make that big impact.

message 38: by [deleted user] (new)

38. I'm Not Scared by Niccolò Ammaniti ****

This was well written book with quite dark theme. I really liked this and want to read more from the author.

message 42: by [deleted user] (new)

41. Spirou et Fantasio, tome 50 Aux sources du Z by Jean-David Morvan **½

42. The Arrival by Shaun Tan ****

43. Caught by Harlan Coben ****

Harlan Coben is one of my favourite crime writers. He sure knows how to write a book that manages to surprise you in the en.

Andrea | 4460 comments Mod
Kuutar, I have to agree with you about Coben!

message 44: by [deleted user] (new)

44. The Help by Kathryn Stockett *****

This was wonderful book! I absolutely loved it!

45. The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway ***

I wasn't really that impressed by this book. I know this is classic, but maybe not my cup of tea...

message 45: by [deleted user] (last edited May 04, 2011 12:30AM) (new)

46. Raja by Riikka Pulkkinen ***

Praised début from a Finnish author. I wasn't that impressed about this, it was just okay.

Kuutar, it's so disappointing to read a highly acclaimed book that just falls flat. Do you think you'll every read this author again?

message 47: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes, I know what you mean. I think I will eventually read her second book, but this time I just have to lower my expectations.
