OK, I have just passed page 271 and this James Wyndham sounds like a real person. Can't find anything about him on the net, the name is too common. I keep getting hits on the Wyndham winery in OZ more than anything :/

I wouldn't be surprised if Wyndham was real. There is a town in WA called Wyndham, I live in Wyndham Council area etc.

The town appears to have been named after a Duke or someone though. Who knows.

I think in the book it says he went on to a prestigious career and was offered an earldom. There are some notes at the end, so that might tell me more when I get there.
