The sound of the city's great bell tower aroused Evelina from her sleep. These bells chimed every morning and night to let the city's inhabitants know if it was day or night outside, because the the light born certainly could not open their window shutters or curtains during the night, or the light from their homes would flood out into the street, harming the Darkborns outside. Likewise, Darkborn could not open their shutters during the daylight hours, or they would be exposed to the sun. In fact, many Darkborn homes, especially in the lower classes, no longer even had windows as they posed too great a risk. The bells, therefore, were essential to the people.
Evelina lay in her bed a moment longer before sitting up and removing her sleep mask. She blinked quickly a few times in order to let her eyes adjust to the light. She noticed that some of her many lamps had dimmed during the night and her first action was to make her way around the room, touching each one. As she touched the lamps, she released power into them, and they brightened instantly.

Tharin groaned in his sleep. Stupid bells could at least wait until he was ready to get up. I mean, common decency. His lamps had dimmed as well. Which meant he'd have to buy more oil that day. Terrific. One more thing on his to do list.
The bells that toll, couldn't possibly wake someone who's been unable to sleep the last two hours of the night. His night of preparation is over, and the bells that toll have aroused a need in him to enter the city and find the woman he longs for. Nicholas, awake with the fire of his longing, stands ready at the door. Now, as the sun rises, his full strength along with it. He will become a powerful leader.
Evelina continued on from room to room, using her powers to brighten each lamp. She also opened shutters and curtains as she went. Though she did have servants, she preferred to do this work herself. Partially because they weren't very proficient in magic, if they knew any at all. And she preferred to do it herself over using oil, or buying new lamps after the servants incompetent magic destroyed them.
Once she had readied herself for the day, she decided it was a perfect morning to take a walk. She considered even taking a trip to the town's center.

Lilia groaned. she'd been awake forever, she couldn't sleep, she didn't know why- the tollig irritated her further. pushing her fringe aside, she opened her curtains and sat on her vast window seat, staring over the lightborn city. She imagined all the darkborns hiding away, and wished she could help, cause she bet the darkborns were really interesting and exiting. oh well. at least she wasn't housebound any more. "good morning world," she muttered, and climbed out the window down to outside, because she could. she needed to pick up more ingredients anyway. In the town centre. Howl might even be there, if he bothered to stop by. he was the best for ingredients. and who knows else would walk at the toll of bell? most would wait awhile before leaving
Unsatisfied with her walk, she decided she really would head into town. Her life had become dull and repetitive lately. So much so, she had been helping the servants with the cooking and chores, though she always cheated and used her magic. She suddenly wished to return to the organization she had once been involved in that was dedicated to finding an end to the curse.
Definately to the town square. howl wasn't around. that sucked.course some said he was secretly a demon who was both light and darke and would eat your heart but, demon or not, he was the best when it came to magical ingredients. it was quite past the toll now, Lilia expected she would be seen in her combats and blue top. mother would be most displeased
It was then that he spotted her, and who could miss that bright blue top or her glamorous pink hair. He thought it was quite ostentatious, but that made her all the more interesting. He thought hard before calling himself to her attention. He'd been sitting in the town center just watching her in search of someone. She hadn't yet noticed him staring.
Evelina stopped outside an interesting looking shop. Odd ornaments hung around the door and she could see that the light inside was dim. She considered entering and looking about, but the lack of light worried her... She looked at the people around her, as she suddenly felt nervous.
Oh? was someone staring? probably one of mums freinds, giving Lilia evils for not going out in a proper dress or something. well whatever. she would deal with them in a sec. one of the shops had caught her eye. she never really went there, but the ornaments drew her. it was rather dark though. Lilia came towards it, then stopped as she noticed someone else eas there. normally she chose to ignore people... but this one looked like... "Lady?"
Evelina jumped, startled. She turned quickly towards the girl. She looked over her once and realized that she recognized her...
((what's your charrie's' mother's name?))
((what's your charrie's' mother's name?))
((hm... shes a Lady or a Ducgess or something, but i didn't think of a name... hm... I'm almost tempted to go with Hylian :P. no, she can be.. Lorelli))
((Lorelli? Okay, That's what I'm going to use))
"Hey, aren't you Lady Lorelli's daughter?" Evelina asked the girl.
"Hey, aren't you Lady Lorelli's daughter?" Evelina asked the girl.
Ugh. so thats how Lilia knew her. "yes, Lady," She pushed her fringe back "and i assure you, i have not been granted permission to go out looking like this. It is most unbecomingf of me, and of my status." in truth- whatever
Evelina smiled, "Don't worry, I won't tell your mother. You deserve to still run around and be free, while you're young!" She thought a moment, "You know, Who am I kidding? I still deserve to do the same! I'm only twenty-one!" Her smile faded slightly as she thought about how she was suddenly thrown into adulthood just over a year before. Most girls typically were married at age eighteen or nineteen, but she wasn't, and on her twentieth birthday, she was tossed into society. Had she been married, her mother would have eased her into it, and she wouldn't have had to feel like she had been forced to grow up all at once. If she had been married, at least it would have been a choice...
Nick was extremely interested, so much that he'd gotten up and started walking over, but the two ladies were talking now. He couldn't interrupt without being rude. Instead he walked by slowly, and deliberately.
"you know," Lilia smiled "Twenty one isn't that old. sure, you should be married by now, but that doesn't mean anything. i mean... who is that?" she motioned to the guy who was staring at her before. he must really hate her or something
As Nick reached the corner, he turned and glanced back. He was sure they had noticed.
Evelina had been nodding, and was about to say that she agreed, but then Lilia pointed out the young man who had walked past.
"I don't know," she answered as she watched him. She had noticed that his behavior was odd..
((What is Nick's social rank?))
"I don't know," she answered as she watched him. She had noticed that his behavior was odd..
((What is Nick's social rank?))
Well, Lilia didn't care about rank or anything, but the guy was really starting to bug her. she deftly climbed atop the buildings, whispering a quick apology to the Lady, and followed him closely
He walked into a nice little shop and waited at the window.
Lilia followed him to the shop. when he paused at the window, she swung down so she was hanging upside down "hey," she mouthed
Startled, he responded, "hey" back.
She dropped down and came up behind him, fingering a kriss at her belt "Who are you and why were you staring at me?" she started "Do you know my mum or something?,"
Evelina decided that girl was going to get in trouble, so she followed her down the street, stepping around a couple of children that were playing in front of their mother's shop.
Holding up his hands, Nick cries out, "Whoa! Cool it down."
Evelina didn't interfere with the scene playing out, but just watched as she pretended to browse threw the goods of a nearby fruit stand.
"Because, I intend you no harm. Unless you warrant it," Nick countered.
"Why would I want to kill you? What makes you so special?" He mercilessly shot his words into her face.
"I don't know, why were you staring at me?" She no longer thught this was a friend of her mothers- someone like that would have already reprimanded her by now
"If you're no longer threatening to draw your blade, I'll tell you."
"yeah yeah," Lilia muttered, taking her hand away from the riss and putting all offensive spells out of her mind "so spill"
"I was only staring, because I couldn't take my eyes off you. Your beauty is exquisite."
"Oh... well thanks" Lilia blushed, startled at the comment, and its outwardness "but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. im no rose"
"I'd be willing to judge the validity of that statement. Would you want to see me again, after today?"
"Um... does it involve dressing up like a lady and being all posh like i techniically have to anyway?"
"Pish, posh. Not in my world." He scoffed.
Aha.... Lilia instantly began to warm up to the guy more "then yeah, whatever. OH! Lilia," She said, holding out a hand "You can kiss is if you must, as so many men seem to because of my status, but i'd really rather you didn't"
Nick took her hand in both of his and simply caressed it.
"Don't stop. I like your laugh."
