If I wanted to buy a vampire book out of these which sould I get?

1. Twilight
2. Guilty Pleasures: Anita Blake
3. Minion: Vampire Huntress Legends
4. Tale of the Body Thief
5. I Vampire

What should I get? :D

Tale of the Body Theif is the fourth in the series, so unless you've read the others, I wouldn't start with it. It is a good story though, if you're a fan of Anne Rice. (I have read most of her work.)

Guilty Pleasures is good, there's a fair amount of action, and she sets up her world well in it.

Twilight is my favorite on your list though. Its a wonderful, character driven story.

hey, has anyone read breaking dawn yet? I wanna know if it's worth buying or not.

I've read Twilight and Guilty Pleasures. I've tried getting into Minion but it bored me and I have I, Vampire in my 2 read pile.

If you like romance (no sex though) I say get Twilight. The lead vamp is TO DIE FOR, literally!

Guilty Pleasures has no sex either but I loved the book and the lead vampire, Jean Claude. Just be aware that the Anita Blake series will turn into smut later down the road. It'll be no sex but lots of sexual tension and then they'll be too much sex and not enough sexual tension. I've only gotten to Book 5 but I'm already slowing down since I know it descends into that. But if you like that, these will be for you!

Jessie, give Twilight (the first one) a try. Edward (the lead vamp) is so damn dreamy, it's ridiculous. I know you're hesitant about getting it but I'd try the first one at least.

Erin, if you haven't read the first 3, I say don't start with Breaking Dawn, since that is the last in the series.

Breaking Dawn was phenomenal, but if you haven't read the first three in the series, then don't start with it because you'll have no idea as to what's happening. Its one of my favorite series of all time though, so I definitely recommend it.

Yeah, I don't like Breaking Dawn so there goes that one. I'd still read the first 3 but only because they don't jump the shark like BD did. I wasn't even 50 pgs in before I put it aside. The obsession has died for me, LOL. Aww, boo.

I know I've heard Breaking Dawn sucked. But was it because of the writing or the ending or the plot or what?

The plot, the ending, you name it, I heard it sucked. From the reviews I have read online and on good reads, it was enough to put me off from finishing the story. I hear everything you loved about the first 3 is pretty much gone from this one.

Oh that's too bad. I'm still deciding. But I'm going to stick with The Vampire Chronicles.

I say read them all. Anne Rice is like one of the originals so good pick!

Yeah, I love her. If I were to choose between guilty pleasures and minion, what should I get?

Guilty Pleasures. I have never been able to get past the first chapter of Minion.

I really enjoyed it. No one can put you on an emotional roller-coaster quite like Stephenie Meyer.

Well, I would recommend my vampire novel ETERNAL VIGILANCE. ;) But I'm rather biased. ;) I also recommend TALE OF THE BODY THIEF if you're interested in an excellent Anne Rice novel...

If you haven't read the rest of Rice's series, I wouldn't jump in with Tale of the Body Thief. It's the fourth in the series, and you'd be confused.

I've read and loved Twilight. I'm going to continue the series. But right now my main concern is writing my story. It's about vampires if you'd like to read it.

I agree with Jennifer, you have to start Anne Rice with Interview. Otherwise, it is like starting a novel from the beginning of the book. she is the watershed moment in the Vampire genre, and a must read for it's fans.

Hey, has anyone read The Historian yet? I finished reading it like 10 minutes ago; it's not the best vampire book, but the author described Dracula in a great, respectful way... It's great and a must-read book for all vampire fans:)

Hi Nina, I enjoyed The Historian too; it reminded me a little bit of Lovecraft, the way Kostova slowly builds her horror as the protagonists uncover each clue, eventually revealing the whole awful truth. Some readers might find it slow in the beginning, but I'd urge them to stick with it.

The Sookie Stackhouse Series by Charlaine Harris. Love this series so much!

I haven't seen or read Vampire Knight, but I love Trinity Blood. (Hence the avatar.)

Hellsing is awesome - and a definite must for vampire lovers.
The manga is great (very very gory, but stylistic) and there are two anime for it, if you're into that. The older anime is good to start with, but the second half goes away from the manga story and ends badly. The second anime series is still ongoing and a faithful adaptation of the manga. It's more moody, creepy and gory.

Cool, I'll have to read it once I'm done with Vampire Knight. I love VK so far! :D

Just read twilight. I felt like I was in a Jr. High girls bathroom the whole book. "Oh my God! He touched me and I just couldn't tear my eyes away from his god like perfection. How will I stand to be away from him until tomorrow!?!?!..." *retch-barf... Great if you're a teenage girl, give it a pass otherwise. About as dark as Hanna Montana, this is not horror, or even macabre, creepy or anything else you read a vampire novel for. Vampires that don't have fangs, go to high school and can go out during the day. Sookie Stackhouse is awesome if your looking for something newer and more novel in the genre.

Has anyone read the Society of S by Susan Hubbard. I really liked that one. It is not your typical vampire novel, but good. I really like Anne Rice and Laurell Hamilton. I need to give the Stackhouse a try.

Just wanted to let everyone know that my new vampire novel, the second in the ETERNAL VIGILANCE series, will be out in March! :)

I just finished I Am Legend. It was pretty good, and probably great for its time, but not worthy of the reviews I've read for it on Goodreads. The movie bore little resemblance to the book, and although the movie caught a lot of flack, I appreciated the way they used an abandoned NYC to accentuate the solitary existance of the protagonist. There movie had some fatal flaws however. The city would take at least a few years to deteriorate to that level, and HELLO!!! Lions and tigers would not last a single NYC winter, let alone a few.

Sorry, Fredstrong, I definitely disagree with you on I Am Legend. It absolutely is worthy of the praise it has gotten on here! It helped usher in the genre of Vampire fiction! And between the vampires, and the survival aspect, I find it one of the best books that I have ever read!

Kathy: I agree with you on that. I loved I Am Legend. I read it because I liked the movie w/ Will Smith, but after reading it I realized that they butchered the book by making the movie.

Ok, ok, put the torches and pitchforks away... I respect the book for what it was, I just enjoy later vampire fiction more. It's more stylized and the vampire myth has just grown much more embellished. Perhaps I am just a fan of the anti-hero, I like vampire fiction that makes the reader relate to the vampire/monster rather than the victim.
