Cheryl Rogers (cherylrogers) | 8 comments Wondering what is recommended for Christian preteens these days? Are they reading anything besides Harry Potter, the Warriors and folks like Tolkien?

I'm trying to suggest something to my 12-year-old son. Thanks.

Ellen Maze (ellenmaze) | 10 comments Hi Cheryl, I feel I can recommend these books (series) with complete confidence to a 12 yr old. (they end up encouraging the child's faith in God and awareness that the enemy is defeated):
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_...
(Frank Peretti is a well-known Christian fiction writer, in case you haven't heard of him)
God bless you!

Ellen Maze (ellenmaze) | 10 comments I agree, Julie! I think I have read nearly all of his books and got something from them all. My favorite is BLINK...but that's going off topic (SORRY CHERYL!) :)

I began writing my YA Christian Fantasy series because my daughter asked me. She didn't want to read Harry Potter, but felt left out from her friend's conversation. Well, mom writing her a book stirred up interest quickly.

Take a poke around my website, there is a lot to see and to capture the interest of a 12 year old boy.

You can also hear the story of why I wrote it on YouTube.

Lynn Dove (woundedtrilogy) | 1 comments Cheryl,
Boys and girls alike have enjoyed reading my books, Shoot the Wounded and Heal the Wounded and I am currently writing the last in the Trilogy, Love the Wounded. You can check out the reviews on Goodreads or on my website: www.shootthewounded.org
Heal the Wounded
[[book:Shoot The Wounded|7508573]

If your son is into paranormal but with a twist may I also recommend Ellen C. Maze's books: The Judging and Rabbit: Chasing Beth Rider. They are a little gory but they are excellent with a redemptive message

Max Elliot Anderson writes books for boys about the outdoors. They often have dogs or horses in them. He's got one out now called Barney and the Runaway. Yep, Barney is a dog.

He's got titles such as Lost Island Smugglers, Mountain Caper Mystery, and Terror at Wolf Lake.

Martin Jones | 3 comments You could always check out my new book. It is $2.99 on Amazon.com (can be borrowed for free if you are an Amazon Prime user) and 1.74 pounds on Amazon.co.uk. Here are the two links, US first:

http://www.amazon.com/They-Shoot-Birds-D...

http://www.amazon.co.uk/They-Shoot-Birds...

Synopsis:
Twelve-year old Mason Wilson's parents need money and they need it fast. Will God come to the rescue like he's been asked to?

Mason has a plan - to win first prize in a newspaper competition on urban myths. But how? Spotting a dead bird on the roadside sets him thinking - why do you rarely see dead birds? Where do they all go? There are lots of theories on the internet but none are really convincing. He sets out to find the real answer.

One night he follows a strangely collared cat to a large lorry, in which he stows away and finds himself at an old factory run by the eccentric Mr. Finch. As he explores the grotesque things what goes on there, Mason discovers that fact really is stranger than fiction and that plans are afoot which could wipe out the nation's entire bird life.

Even worse, he realises that he's the only one who can do anything to stop it; but if he does then his golden chance of winning the competition will be lost. Still, if his Mum and Dad find out he's missing, that will be the least of his worries!

Target Audience

11+ with interests in any or all of "urban" science fiction, nature, environmental issues, the internet, mysteries, moral dilemmas, gadgets and inventions, faith, the Bible and/or quirky humour.

Book Length

Approximately 47,000 words, or equivalent to a 200 page novel.

Christianity, faith, morals, the gospel, God and the Bible appear throughout the book, but hopefully in an integrated and non-preachy way. It should appeal to boys in particular as the subjct matter can get a little grotesque!

J. Bush (jwesleybush) | 3 comments Coyle suggests some great books!

This year we bought these series for our boys to read (ages 11 - 15):

100 Cupboards series by N.D. Wilson

The Aedyn Chronicles by Alister McGrath

And not from a Christian point of view, but a good read:
The Mysterious Benedict Society

R.J. Gilbert (rjagilbert) | 68 comments Finding Drake The Desperate Search for Mr. Anderson by Jeffrey Scott

I read this one recently and loved it. I recommend it for teenage boys, which is a hard crowd to make read, but this one is a good bet. It is currently only available for Kindle, but if enough people show interest, maybe he'll put it out in paperback and other ebooks as well.

R.J. Gilbert (rjagilbert) | 68 comments Oh, and I'm supposed to be promoting my own stuff as well (which is something I don't like doing, obviously).

If you like a little fantasy adventure/romance, I just released this one in time for Saint Patrick's Day. It is on Kindle and Smashwords.
The Lucky and the Strong by Robert J.A. Gilbert
My other titles are YA geared as well. More information is on my profile.
