The US is having a very bad problem with bedbugs this year.

Caused by international travel.

The bedbugs hitch a ride on the luggage. It's terrible in hotels in big cities right now.

Yet another reason to listen to books:-)

Gatorman | 7679 comments Yet another reason to get a Nook!

message 9: by Linda (new)

Linda Boyd (boydlinda95gmailcom) | 335 comments YES!!!! Go Nook Go!!!

message 10: by Scout (new)

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 1438 comments Great idea - a free Nook library, accessible to everyone. How do we join?

message 11: by Gatorman (new)

Gatorman | 7679 comments Funny. It may not be free, but it is way more convenient than going to the library and fewer germs. Also there are no limited copies issues you get at the library.

message 12: by Jan C (new)

Jan C (woeisme) | 39412 comments I told a friend today about e-books from the library and she couldn't believe it. She said it might make getting a reader worth it.

She has chronic fatigue syndrome and has trouble making it to the big library and they keep threatening to close our local branch library on budget issues.

message 13: by Gatorman (new)

Gatorman | 7679 comments Our local library is starting to allow loaning of e-books, too. It makes the purchase price of the Nook well worth it, IMO.

Nami (tenshii) | 11 comments Woah, bugs? In Books? O.O Ill be sure to check. Though I dont think we'll hav em here. Im in the UK so yah..:D and for the E-books thing; that would be so great!! Their threatenin to close libraries(1mill) wen ther r civic centres that are 100mill that No one uses in places.apparently.

BUT. I think that if theyre gonna close down ur local library, that your community shud try to look after it- people have already started to do it, and it works well were it can.

ALSO: Does anyone have any recommendations for crime books?? I havent read one in a while...

Gatorman | 7679 comments Try City of the Sun: A Novel and Where the Dead Lay by David Levien. Both are excellent crime novels.

Nami (tenshii) | 11 comments Gatorman- Thanks, will do. :D

message 19: by Libby (new)

Libby Bed bugs in books? I can just imagine what Stephen King or Dean Koontz will do with that one... I'm already afraid of staying in a hotel. Books too?? Ugh.

message 20: by Carol/Bonadie (new)

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 445 comments Oh gross. I googled this hoping it was a scam but unfortunately it's true, I saw reports in places like NYC and Denver going back a few years. I promptly checked the book resting on the couch next to me.

Nami (tenshii) | 11 comments O.o Was it safe? Im assuming it was- this is all in America right? Nowhere else at the moment? I dont think its anywhere else..but can never be too sure i guess. :I

to: Libby- Who are err- Stephen King and Dean Koontz?? If you dont mind. :)

message 22: by Jan C (new)

Jan C (woeisme) | 39412 comments It is because of international travel - so they must have been picked up somewhere around the world and brought back home.

Stephen King and Dean Koontz are two of the biggest and most successful thriller/horror writers on the planet.

I was not trying to make you feel daft. If my response offended you, I apologize. I think Koontz is overrated so if you have to focus on one, choose King!

message 28: by Almeta (new)

Almeta (menfrommarrs) | 182 comments Start with King's earlier (1970's)works first. Once you fall in love with him...go for eveything. Then curse the day that you run out of King's books to read!!!

Curses!!!

message 29: by MissJessie (new)

MissJessie | 508 comments I think only the early King ones are really good.

Carrie
Firestarter

message 31: by Linda (new)

Linda Boyd (boydlinda95gmailcom) | 335 comments Namita, another good one that popped into my head by Stephen King is Needful Things and The Shining. But I love everything King - old and new. :)

message 32: by Nami (new)

Nami (tenshii) | 11 comments to Linda: Mmhhmm, am writing it down now- thank you aswell for the book ideas!! Im happy ~ because I now have an idea as to where I should begin! : )

message 33: by Morgan (new)

Morgan (mogitha) | 17 comments Even the threat of bed bugs (which I've already dealt with extensively, and have scars to prove it), I won't go digital or audio, there's just something about a physical, real book, that can't be replaced.

message 34: by Linda (new)

Linda Boyd (boydlinda95gmailcom) | 335 comments Im with you on that Morgan, I have tried audio and may do it on occasion, but there is nothing like reading a book. I also have an ereader that I simply love, but still must go back to my hardback books!!!

message 35: by Morgan (new)

Morgan (mogitha) | 17 comments I can't help it, something about the scent of a book, and the actually movement of physically turning pages makes me not want anything else.

M. Myers (mruth) | 100 comments Think I'll stick to my Kindle if I want to read in bed.

Jane (flopsybunny) | 159 comments Try The Green Mile by Stephen King, it is brilliant! :)
