Cherrybomb (wvcherrybomb) | 68 comments Discuss any general fiction books you are reading here.

A few I have just finished are

Sweetie

The Mammoth Cheese

Two Rivers

I will add my opinions on both tomorrow when I have more time. Anyone else read either? Feel free to add any other general fiction books to the dicussion here.

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 3289 comments The Lion's Game - completed it a while ago. I truly disliked this book – no, that's not quite true. The author was in serious need of an editor wielding a hatchet. The plot was interesting but I didn't like the characters, especially the main character John Corey. Somewhere in that book is a good 300 page rainy day afternoon read - the problem is that the book is 900+ pages.

Zoe Rider (zoexrider) | 36 comments I think I read more general fiction than anything else.

"Sweetie" sounds good, and it doesn't hurt that it takes place in a familiar locale. I've stuck it on my wish list.

So far this year I've read:

- Gerbrand Bakker's The Twin, which I looooved (but it probably isn't for everyone)

- Antonya Nelson's Bound, which I liked a lot (but didn't love)

- Aimee Bender's The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake, which I liked a lot (and nearly loved--parts of it I do absolutely love)

- and Jean Hegland's Into the Forest, which started out a little slow, but overall I loved it

I should be finished with Ethan Frome tonight; I'm eager to get started on Scott Heim's We Disappear (which actually ties in, in subject matter, with the books Cherrybomb and I were just discussing in the True Crime thread).

The Cuckoo's Calling"

Dear Author was talking about that today.

They are thinking that JKR's pub leaked it because they wanted a Best Seller...not a "first time author sale."

Yeah, I heard the same thing. That's how it leaked, in fact. People kept saying that the book was so polished - too polished - to be a first novel.

Some random person spilled the beans and then disappeared.

alansplace | 13 comments Hmmm...interesting?! Just found this discussion and I've never posted here and my name is mentioned!?

I've started reading it (The Prologue and the first three chapters so far) and am still interested. That's more than I can say about The Casual Vacancy which I abandoned at somewhere near this point in my attempted reading of it.

I understand. I gotta' say that I really dislike the software these forums are running on as I'm constantly lost.
