Heidi | 871 comments My daughter, age 10, started reading the Anne of Green Gables series a while back and for Christmas I bought her the entire PBS series on DVD(which we have been watching when the boys go to hockey practice)...she is in love with Gillbert Blyth....she gets me laughing so hard talking about it as if he is real! I think I just may have a future romance reader on my hands.

I still have a tendre for Gilbert! Nice for you two to enjoy it together. She could start reading Georgette Heyer about now if she might enjoy it.

The Anne of Green Gables televisoin series is lovely isn't it! My seven year old and I also enjoy it. SHe enjoys Pride and Prejudice (the BBC serialisation with Colin Firth) too- sometimes she just wants to be called Lizzie!

She wrote from the '30s to the 70's- regency romances. Very funny and well written and a single kiss at the end. Might be a bit old fashioned for your daughter but I read the whole lot in my early teens.

When my mum got ill I collected the whole lot for us and she thoroughly enjoyed rereading them.

Heidi | 871 comments I will have to look into them for her..maybe try one.She loves history and "old fashhioned" everything so it just might be something she likes. She loves Gillbert tho, too funny!

D.G. Georgette Heyer is credited with creating the regency romance genre back in the 30s. I don't know if that's true, but she probably was the first successful author of the genre.

I've only read two by her Venetia and Devil's Cub. I loved Venetia. :)

Heidi | 871 comments BEKAH- don't worry about the opinions, its a great movie series. We have the last disc to go and its killing me(us) that we can't watch this week as I have to take my son to practice....so we will have to wait til next week. It's so good and gets me laughing! Anne is a crazy girl!

Bekah (bekah317) | 2750 comments I've seen it before but its been a LONG time ago, I just remember loving it. I was just getting conflicted by what exactly I need to buy to get the whole set....but thanks so much for you intervention...

it will be here soon I'm sure!!!!

Heidi | 871 comments When we are thru watching it, I have to loan it to my grandma, she is 77 and read the books as a child...she will love the movies, I just know it!

MashJ | 733 comments Eva Ibbotson does nice YA, old fashioned romances too. I guess the only question is when your daughter'll be ready to read adult length books.

Having just ground through two pages with my 7 year old tonight I'm not convinced she'll be ready to really fly through books by 10 but I'm hoping it she takes off soon.

Are the DVDs to Anne all available at the moment? There was limited availability last time I looked- we have the videos at the moment.

Heidi | 871 comments My daughter loves to read and will sit adn read a book all day if I let her! Check the link I gave above, at Amazon...I know I have seen thm on ebay as well, as far as I know they are all availible in a boxed set, thats how I purchased them, a month ago for Christmas.

Bekah (bekah317) | 2750 comments it looked like there were plenty...what i don't understand is why the new ones are cheaper than the used ones??? No sense.
