Hello! My Husband has a Zombie series out and book 3 is due out Mid February. I am not a Zombie reader most of the time however I did enjoy both. Wonder if I am partial:
Zombie Fallout
Zombie Fallout 2: A Plague Upon Your Family
I just finished reading
Life As We Knew It
The Dead and the Gone
This World We Live In
which are all about the moon being knocked out of its normal orbit and what it does to the world and the people in it.

Oh, I've read the Life As We Knew It books! Can't believe I forgot those; I love those books! And hello Tracy, welcome to the group!
How about The Giver,Gathering Blue, and Messenger?
Also Matched which I haven't read yet but is supposed to be like The Giver.

I'll take a look at those when I get a chance (probably tomorrow) - or you can go ahead and make a discussion for them. I'm pretty sure I set the group settings so you can do that. If you find that I didn't, let me know.
I am currently reading The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood, and so far it's been a very interesting dystopian future.
alrighty, thx! i'll make a topic later this evening when i have time, or tomorrow afternoon, or you can feel free and make one!
Skinned is the first book of a series, amazing books they will keep you entertained to the last page.
If you enjoy the shape shifting world, I'm currently on book 5(Shift) of the Shifters Series by Rachel Vincent, the first book in the series isStray.
Note - any of you guys can create topics for your books!!
You might want to move Matched from the other books folder to a new folder, it's sequel Crossedis coming out this year.
I want to recommend the Fire-Us trilogy: The Kindling , The Kiln, The Keepers of the Flame by Jennifer Armstrong. They're written for younger readers (middle school level?) but it's an awesome and believable look at a group of kids trying to survive after a plague has wiped out the adults. Loved it and devoured all three without stopping.
Exodus I just read it it's a post-apocalypse book, It's part of a trilogy Zenith and Auroraare the other two books.
The triology by Carrie Ryan really freaked me out. That was one series that was really vivid and awesome.
R wrote: "The triology by Carrie Ryan really freaked me out. That was one series that was really vivid and awesome."The Forest of Hands and Teeth...such a great trilogy!! Did you read Hare Moon?
Caitlin wrote: "Across the Universe There is to be at least two more books."I have that on my wish list, can't wait to read it!
I'd like to add my own Post-Apocalyptic series of which two of the three are currently available in both paperback and ebook format. The Judas Syndrome
In a world devastated by an apocalyptic event,
the bonds of friendship are tested in the haze of
unrelenting depression, and paranoia.
Will you know who your friends are?
Rebirth
A year into a Post-Apocalyptic existence, where
friendships are tested and new enemies emerge; talk
of destiny fulfilled through a child offers salvation.
Could you believe?
Has anyone here read the Tomorrow series by John Marsden? It has 7 books (only found that out last year, read the first one years ago.) and, I think, a companion series of 3. Also, the first book, which is one of my personal faves (I still have to read the others. it's on my to-do list)was released as a movie in Austrailia (where it was written and takes place)(not that I've seen it, as i'm American. wanted to SO bad! Trailer: Tomorrow, When the War Began)Tomorrow When the War Began
When Ellie and her friends return from a camping trip in the Australian bush, they find things hideously wrong--their families are gone. Gradually they begin to comprehend that their country has been invaded and everyone in their town has been taken prisoner. As the reality of the situation hits them, they must make a decision--run and hide, give themselves up and be with
their families, or fight back.
I read #6: The Night Is For Hunting of the Tomorrow series without having read any of the others & found it worked fine as a stand-alone. It would probably have been even better if I'd read the earlier books. Really good survival story.
How about Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood? One of the best post apocalypse books I've ever read. In fact it might make it into my top 10 books ever. Has anyone else read it? (By the way, I'm new to the group, so, hello.)

The scariest apocalypse book I read was Day By Day Armageddon by JL Bourne. I had a hard time sleeping afterwards. I also read The Road but was soon distracted by wondering how many adjectives one could use for misery and the color gray. I need a leetle bit of hope, I guess.
Has anyone read The Road by Cormac Macarthy? I have seen the movie but not read the book yet; which I hate doing. I can never get what happened in hte movie out of my head while reading. I've been told it is a must read for anyone into post apocalyptic lit.
I did but didn't care for it. It was too dark and hopeless. Maybe I'm too much of a girl, but I needed the author to throw me a little ray of sunshine. LOL
I really liked The Road, even after having seen the film. It is grim and full of dispair, but wonderful writing, and a tiny little glimmer of hope at the end.

I like these books because they are (more or less) realistic.
Just joined the group. It's good to know they are more post-apocalyptic fans around. Can't wait to hear your recommendations.
Completely new to goodreads and just bought a kindle, so looking for some... well... good reads! I'm reading The Strain at the moment, It's the first in a series of 3. Its about an impending vampire apocalypse, and a couple of epidemiologists' struggle to maintain the spreading 'infection', accompanied by a pest controller and an elderly Jewish pawn shop owner. It's so refreshing to see some real demonic, bloodthirsty and downright scary vampires on the bestsellers list :D

I've been ..."I actually picked this book up without ever hearing about the author and I was gripped by it immediately and read it in one night. Cormac McCarthy is now one of my favorite authors. The book is not for the light hearted for sure but definitely worth the harrowing journey...oh and he doesn't use quotations when characters speak which bothers a lot of people but I like it because it feels more story-like to me.
I suggest if you like any of the classic dystopian novels like 1984 and Brave New World then you should read We by Yevgeny Zamyatin. It was written well before those novels but is just as good in my opinion.
I actually attended a private Christian school that had 'duck-and-cover' drills in case of nuclear attack. IN THE 70's!!!Two classic PA books:
For survivors- Alas, Babylon by Pat Frank
For the maybe-we-don't-make-it's: On the Beach by Nevil Shute
Of these two, Alas,Babylon would probably be the one with viable information on what to do in case of Apocalypse.
A contemporary title I loved and highly recommend, that would also have pertinent info on survival, is Go-Go Girls of the Apocalypse by Victor Gischler.
I've seen some people post about Brave New World on these forums so I would suggest that for those who loved it to try Huxley's counter point novel The Island. It's utopia instead of dystopia but I personally liked it just as well.
One Second After is a great book from a man with a mission. The author honestly believes that EMP's could decimate the US. This book is his version of post-nuclear America. I thought that since I knew the authors intentions before I started that I wouldn't be sucked in, but I have to be honest, this book changed my mind. Especially since it's about a real, albeit unlikely, threat to the US. Recommended for anyone to read.
Daniel wrote: "Just read and loved The Adoration of Jenna Fox"Wasn't that book AMAZING!!! The ending was great, the characters were great...just loved it! I already pre-ordered The Fox Inheritance!!! Can't wait!
a really good book with lots of survival is Gone. i just finished reading plague, the fourth book in the series!!! its super awesome!!
I see that some of my favorites have already made it on here (Adoration of Jenna Fox, The Gone series and The Hunger Games trilogy, Matched). As for new ones, I read The Declaration by Gemma Malley a couple of weeks ago and I'm waiting on the rest of the series. I'm currently reading Human.4 by Mike A. Lancaster. I also want to read Empty by Suzanne Weyn. Although they are little bit more juvenile, the City of Ember books are also pretty good.
Side note: all of my recommendations and reads with more than likely be juvenile or young adult fiction!
Hi Paula! Thanks for the books you suggested, but I couldn't find "The Ship", could you write the author please? I would like to see what its plot is about...I also was wondering (because many of you seem to love it) is the "Adoration of Jenna Fox" that good? I've read the plot but it didn't drew my attention..
Sorry if there's any mistake, my english is not very good.
Change series by SM Stirling, the first book in the series is Dies the Fire. It is set in a modern world where one day, all technology is just gone. Not even gunpowder works. In one second the entire world is thrown back into the 13th century. I was hooked from the first book.
