Yeah I listen to music when I read, I notice when I'm in silence I'm more likly to get distracted. I listen to a wide range. I listen to Matchbox Twenty, Three Days Grace, Wicked, Phantom of the Opera, Train, Theory of a Deadman....

Hmmm, I'm into R&B and rock. Some alternative. I'm also a fan of pop music, lol. I'll admit it, I love singing songs by Kesha and Katy Perry. I also listen to Radio Disney with my daughter.
Then I'm a loyal NKOTB fan, even though it's funny and it makes me a bit of a dork. I'll be loving them forever, heehee.
I listen to a bit of everything. I actually barely listen to music anymore since I mostly listen to audiobooks, but when I need a break from audiobooks I listen to Glee, Ryan Adams, Kelly Clarkson, Pink, Matchbox 20, Journey, U2, Fleetwood Mac, Dixie Chicks, Sheryl Crow, the Once Soundtrack (love it!), Daughtry, and much much more. I am into soundtracks more than anything.
I write to music and I burned a CD when I finished Solid of the must-haves that got me through and emailed all the artists to let them know; I hope they read my note so they know how much their songs are appreciated :) I gave a shout-out to Cowboy Mouth, whom I've never met or spoken to, but I believe is the most under-rated band ever; their songs have interestingly made appearances at very transitory times in my life!
I can't listen to music when I read but I'm always listening to music when I write--rock, country, new age, classical, even opera. Depends on the scene. Faves include The Proclaimers, The Band Perry, The Who, Miranda Lambert, Enya. The list goes on and on.
Actually I barely notice lyrics, but that might be cause I was in band for so many years. I love the instrumentals
I butcher lyrics, I try to sing along with my friends, I can hear a song a million times still I just fail. I listened to Lips of an Angel by Hinder probably for a week or so before I realized what it was about.

I'm the same way Ottilie. It drives my roommate nuts. I'll be singing along and she'll look at me like "do you have any idea what you just said?" Lyrics always hit her first. I generally listen to all types of music, but mostly Indie/alternative. Although I go through phases. Sometimes I'll listen to nothing but country for a month, then nothing but hip-hop. My favorites include The Black Keys, Band of Skulls, Dido, Norah Jones, Elton John, Billy Joel, Ella Fitzgerald, U2, Muse, Lady Gaga and my favorite band of all time... Something Corporate.
For some reason I've been on a big Springsteen kick lately. I had never really paid attention to him before but he is fantastic! Also one of the few artists I prefer live instead of in the studio. I think it's because of all the weird 80"s instruments. I'm not a fan. But if you take Springsteen, an acoustic guitar or two and a few drums that is all you need!!
I do love lyrics. I think that's why I love country music so much too. Each song is like a little story.
I'm big into lyrics. You can have the best beat in the world, but if it's dirty or stupid, I'm done listening. So I listen to a lot of instrumental. If you like instrumental and you like Metallica, you'll love Apoptilyptica (sp?). Awesome chello cortet that does all Metallica's songs.I used to really be into Punk, and I still enjoy it. Faves would have to be Blink 182 (their mostly clean stuff), MXPX, Good Charlotte, and some punk girl bands I can't remember the name off the top of my head.
I listen to the radio a lot too since my cd player is busted and my ipod is full of books, so I like pretty much everyone who's been popular since the mid ninties, lol! I'm really loving Kelly Clarkston right now. Enya and The Cranberries rock my world too.
I'm so glad someone started a music thread! I'm a music fanatic. My teenage son is an aspiring film composer, and he composes original music for all my books. It's used in my book trailers and is so beautiful. I love film score music. It's all I write to because music with lyrics is distracting for me when I'm reading or writing. My favorite band is Brand New. They're a little bit underground, but their lyrics are unmatched, in my opinion. Also, I thought you guys might be interested in the Song of the Week feature on my website. I put it up every Tuesday after collecting song nominations from readers the week before. It's been a great way to find new music, especially since so many of the nominations come from teens. Last week's Song of the Week was here; http://michellezink.com/song-of-the-w...

Thanks, Catie! I've been lucky to work with him. It's been really cool to watch his talent blossom and doubly cool to collaborate with him at an age when many teens don't want to be hanging out with their mom!And yes. That Song of the Week feature is dangerous! But it's been great. I used to have lots of time to seek out new bands, but with writing and single-motherhood, not so much. This has helped me get at least one does of new music a week!

Just wanted to mention the website AOL Listening Party. They have full CD's of various artists and they change once a week. I love that website. It is a great way to find new artists or listen to a CD to see if it is worth the purchase. I am currently listening to "Grammy Nominations 2011" and it has every song that gets stuck in your head for days (Forget You, California Girls) - now I will be humming these songs all week!
Catie wrote: "That's pretty cool! I am always over at last.fm"Ugh! Now I have "Love the Way you Lie" in my head! These songs are way too catchy. I have never went to last.fm - I'll check it out.
Thanks, Heidi! And thanks for the heads-up about AOL Listening Party. I'll definitely check it out!Pandora is great, too. My teens turned me onto it. The bands are organized by similarity, so if you like Brand New, you can listen to bands that are similar in sound. It's a great way to find new music.

Honestly, I write in silence (boring me!). But I do listen to music to kind of get ready to write. For last ms loved Eminem/Rhianna's LOVE THE WAY YOU LIE. Right now, listening to lots of pre-insanity Britney Spears (there's a reason) and liking INTO YOUR ARMS by The Maine.
I have never used Amazon's music downloads, but I may use that code to get the soundtrack for Instant Star. Thanks Catie!
I love music!! That is my next addiction next to books. I listen to pop, rock, classical, some jazz, some rap, oldies, and many more. You name it I have probably listened to it at some point.I have noticed that as I get older I have trouble remembering the songs when I here the music. I used to be able to name the song as soon as I heard the beginning of the song.
Some groups I listen to are: Maroon 5, Matchbox twenty, MDO, Menudo, Ricky Martin, Kelly Clarkson, Katey Perry, Journey, Def Leopard, Eminem, Will Smith and more.
Oooo I always listen to music while I read! LOVE music. I keep my ipod running constantly with earbuds in a lot of the day. It's my way of saying (without saying), don't talk to me I'm in the zone. LoL Some of my favorite artists: Jack Johnson, Maroon 5, Kings of Leon, Justin Timberlake, Linkin Park, No Doubt, Paramore, Sublime, Pepper, Sara Bareilles, T-Pain, The Band Perry, Nickelback, Mumford and Sons.
Yay I'm not the only Matchbox Twenty person! Oh i've been getting into a little bit of Sara Bareilles lately
I used to listen to some Matchbox 20 back in the day! Not anymore, but I used to have love for them.
Oh definitely! You have to mix it up to keep it interesting. I forgot to mention I listen to all the Glee soundtracks nonstop too!
I love Matchbox 20 - Rob Thomas is a God! I listen to their more recent CD with the new and old songs on it a lot.
I love the original Glee Soundtrack the best, but I did listen to their Christmas CD a lot around the holidays.
I don't have their Christmas CD but I do have all 4 of their show soundtracks. The first 2 were the best, but I do love the newest one because it has some of the newer songs like Billionaire and Teenage Dream.
I just put the Valentine's day episode on my Ipod. I really liked Firework and the Gap Attack song! (I can't think of the name of it.)
I listen to Radio Disney with my daughter in the car, and I have to admit that the best thing about it is that they actually play the songs from Glee. The other day they played Rachel's version of 'Hit me baby one more time', lmao.
I think the Rocky Horror songs are some of my favorite! Sweet Transvestite and Touch a Touch a Touch a Touch me are on my Ipod.
I am obssesed with Adele's new album right now! I just watched her live performance of Someone Like You at the Brit awards and it was amazing!
Two things: First, I was just reminded how much I adore Evanesence's sound and music.Second, my three-year-old son can sing all the words to Black Eyed Peas' "Good Night" and I don't even own the song. Cracks me up ever time.
Oooo I love Evanescence and Black Eyed Peas! Amy Lee's voice is so unique and powerful. That's so cute that your son knows all the words!! Good Stuff!
Wow, I can't believe I haven't commented on this thread already - I'm a complete music addict. Though I can't listen while I work/read, I have music on for pretty much every other minute of the day, literally until I turn my computer off as I'm crawling into bed! And like most UKers these days, I use Spotify (which is beyond awesome) constantly for all my music stuff. Some of my favourites right now (they change frequently!): Two Door Cinema Club, Incubus, Bonobo, Everything Everything, Billy Talent, The Virgins...
Oh, and I'm way excited about the new Radiohead album coming out on Saturday! Woohoo :D
Wow Kourtni, jealous! They're hardly ever in the UK, or I'd skip university in a second and be right there :DGosh, it's been absolutely ages since I've seen anyone live...I really need to remedy that particular situation!
Also, my favourite song of the week, which I've just discovered: 'Get Back' by Kowalski. YouTube it if you fancy a bit of new music! :)
They were pretty great live! (Not trying to rub it in or anything ;) They have not been anywhere near me since then though, if it makes you feel better. We just got a brand new event center not too long ago so I've been able to catch more concerts than ever. I saw Nickelback last year, Maroon 5 a few months ago, and I get to go to Kings of Leon in April!! SOOOO excited about that!
