I love Third Place Books at Lake Forest. I've had a couple of groups that went there for book stuff. It has a food court which is REALLY large, access to food and, of course, access also to the bookstore. Although the one in Ravenna may be closer to some people, it just doesn't have a good place to meet and exchange books and ideas. So I vote for that! And I LOVE the idea of a local swap. I end up selling so many books at Half Price because I want to get rid of them. I'd rather give them to someone who really wants them, too, Flannery!
So let's keep this up. I'm not sure on the organization side of it either, so I hope others have some great ideas!
Goodreads doesn't really give me the option to find local people on here to advertise the group...I'm hoping people who search Seattle might find it? :-/ I have TONS of books that I could swap as well. Third Place is a great idea. And, if people don't want some of the books, you can sell them back at the store there or donate them to King County Library one floor down...
That's a really cool idea about selling the "extras" at 3rd pl. or donating them to the library. You're full of great ideas!(And, if no one else responds, I'LL be happy to meet you ANY weekend and go through your stash of swappable books!!!!!!!!
Third Place gets a vote from me too. I live close by.Also, you can go to "explore" up above and click "people" and search by zip code I think. So that's one way you can find some Seattle folk.
What do you think of doing one in about a month? Maybe the last weekend in February? My brain will be fried until I'm done with the bar but after that I will be rarin' to go:-)Christian, I asked a whole bunch of new people that way. Hopefully, we can grow as a group...harass the people at the bookstore to join lol.
Flannery, I would be willing to meet up for a little swap as long as you are not pawning your old BAR/BRI books. :-) New member here, and I have a few things potentially to bring to a swap. Why not? End of February/early March works for me, and I will go anywhere.
Sundays are less busy (crazy)than Saturdays, so I'd vote for the last Sunday in Feb. I don't have as many as Flannery to swap, but by then, I'm sure I will have built up more!!
. . . the stranger is hosting a book swap this thursday at the hugo house, if anybody is interested . . . details in this week's stranger suggests . . .
Linda--I say we stick to that date. Not everyone will be able to come but hopefully we can have at least a few people. I don't mind if we do it at the Ravenna location but I'm not familiar with it and the space capacity--are there tables? And I think I might go to The Stranger's bookswap as well. (EDIT: I think it might've been last night and not next Thursday)
(Christian, if you can't come on that day, I'll just come give you some books at the store;-))
The Ravenna place has a little cafe with tables, but we'd be taking up the places of people who came to actually eat. Other than that it has a couple of chairs in front of the fireplace and that's it. I'm surprised that since they make so much of their being a "third place" that they don't really have a space to have a group get together. Can we say Lake Forest and I'll go scope out Ravenna again and see if they've added any space that we could use.
Sure thing:-) I'd prefer LFP just because it has so much room and we won't be in the way. (well, hopefully we wouldn't)
Flannery wrote: "Linda--I say we stick to that date. Not everyone will be able to come but hopefully we can have at least a few people. There are some near the front by the buy desk. There's also the pub downstairs. I can ask if people want, I live close by.
And yes, if you're referring to the "Two Books Enter, One Book Leaves", at Richard Hugo House, that was this last Thursday.
Third Place books in Lake Forest Park works for me, too. The last Sunday in Feb (Feb. 27) at what time?
Does noon work? Or later? If noon, we can grab some lunch too, but I'm open for earlier or later.....
I don't get home from church until about 1:30pm, and I have a class on Sunday evening at 6pm. So my 'window' on Sunday is from 2-5pm.Other days/times work for me too. Don't make a decision based on my schedule.
Noon on the last Sunday in February works for me, too. Will there be an "official" event posted to the group when the time and date are finalized?
Yes, I'll make an event. I just have a few more comments. How do people think we should run it? Should everyone bring X number of books? (10?15?) How should we decide who gets what? On the Third Place site, it states that they buy back books every day except Sundays:-/ So that wouldn't be an option for leftover books. There is still a King County Library downstairs so that might be an option to donate books.
Has anyone been to a swap before that could lend some guidance?
I like your limit on books. I don't have a lot right now and I also tend to be VERY grabby when I see ones that I want.We could limit the number of books that you can take from the swap, also. Like I said, I tend to be grabby.
If two or more people want the same book we could do something like draw straws.
We could also take back our books that don't get picked up this time for further swaps. After all, we're not likely to get the same people each time.
Whaddya think?
