Shannon (frecklesquilts) | 104 comments Wow! An entire month of 2011 has come to pass....

What is everyone working on this week?

I hope to start quilting a little quilt this week. (I pulled myself out of my quilting doldrums to finish the top yesterday!) I posted a pic in our group photos.

Good for you, Shannon! I'm still knitting. (I know, nowhere is there knitting in the name of our group! LOL!) I'm working on the sleeves, though, and watching "All Creatures Great and Small". It really is lovely, especially with the fireplace on. It is, after all, -7F here right now!

Shannon (frecklesquilts) | 104 comments It's COLD in Denver today! We were in the 60s at the end of last week. I've heard forecasts of negative temps tomorrow. brrrrrr

I also heard on TV this morning, Shannon, that the school district is talking about canceling school there tomorrow. Our district did cancel it today, but the phone call didn't go out until 7 and Glenn was already there. He came home about 11. I think he stayed that long because he knew the cleaning ladies would be here. LOL!

Tanya #TeacherReader | 90 comments I am working on a pink and brown baby quilt with embroidered flowers and butterflies for a friend that is finally having a girl! I better get my act together because the baby is due at the end of March at least I have all the fabric I need...Getting fabric in my town is pretty difficult since the nearest quilt shop is a 45 mile drive, but I just found out one of my firends is planning on opening a quilt shop here soon and I can't wait!

How exciting about the quilt shop, Tanya! Do you ever order anything online? We have one quilt shop in town. If I want to travel to Rapid City, SD, or Sheridan, WY, I can go to some stores there, too. While my shop carries pretty much what I like, every once in awhile, I order online. One of my favorite places from which to order is Big Horn Quilts. She has a great selection and the prices are good.

Shannon (frecklesquilts) | 104 comments I just got word that my favorite quilt shop in Denver is closing. Boo Hoo...supposedly retirement is the reason, but I would bet that the economy might have something to do with it. We've had a couple of shops close recently.

I'm very sad!

Tanya #TeacherReader | 90 comments I order on-line often. What shop is closing in Denver? I shop at all the quilt shops there when I visit my sister or attend meeting/conferences/trainings for work...

Shannon (frecklesquilts) | 104 comments Great American Quilt Factory on Hampden and Dry Creek.

I really was stunned. I was just in there on Wedsnesday. I got an email on Friday 2/4 saying they were closing on 2/5-2/9 and reopening on 2/10 to sell everything including fixtures. I had noticed a drop in inventory of the past six months and really did wonder if something was up, but hadn't heard any rumors and really was shocked!

Jaci Worth | 37 comments @ Shannon - WHAT?!!??? I can't believe that they are closing. Wow, that's a huge hit! I know that a local quilt shop here in Rapid City buys some patterns and things from them. I wonder what happened?

Oh, no! I just, well a year ago, was in there and bought a ton of fabric! It had been years since I last was there, and I noticed that the space was much smaller. I'm said they're closing. One of my friends on my closed quilt list, whom I also know F2F, use to work for them. Dang!

Tanya #TeacherReader | 90 comments I have bought things at the Great American Quilt Factory too. But, they didn't seem to be carrying much of the newer stuff people are buying like jelly rolls, turnovers, etc. I love the shop that is over in Parker, it is worth the drive!

Shannon (frecklesquilts) | 104 comments I used to visit High Prairie Quilts in Parker occasionally. My mom lives near Park Meadows and used to watch my children. I'd drive down to Parker.

I guess my favorite shop will now have to be Holly's Quilt Cabin off of Holly and County Line. They'll cut FQs of any fabric if not available all ready and they still have their frequent buyer program. I think this store is about the same distance as GAQF was.

There is a new store opening in the Sante Fe Arts District in March. I think their selection is more of the "modern" fabrics. There is also supposed to be a sewing studio for meetings and sewing machine rentals for on site sewing if one needs it.

I also have the new fabric thrift store that opened in the fall just down the street.

I still have options....

I used to buy a lot of fabric online, but I've had a few disappointments with things not being what I thought I saw online. I love Big Horn Quilts, too!

Julie Owens, who owns Big Horn Quilts is a friend. I'll pass along your praise. :-)

Shannon (frecklesquilts) | 104 comments I keep trying to get my husband to vacation in Wyoming and Montana so that we can visit some of the quilt shops.
