Region: Asia
Gentlemen of the Road: A Tale of Adventure
This takes place in the Kingdom of Arran, which Chabon says is modern day Azerbaijan.

Region: Middle East
Snow by Orhan Pamuk
Learned a lot about Turkey, but I think a lot of it went over my head.

Region: Europe
The Last Days of the Romanovs: Tragedy at Ekaterinburg by Helen Rappaport
I've always been interested in this story. This book was overwhelmingly sad but gave a good account of the last month or so of the Romanov's lives. Also gave some interesting historical info on people you may not learn about elsewhere.

Region: Europe
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne
I highly recommend this book, but be prepared for a tear jerker.

Region: Africa (region #6)
In the Country of Men by Hisham Matar
This was an amazing book and is a very timely read considering all that's going on in the world today. I highly recommend it.

Region: Africa
Cleopatra: A Life by Stacy Schiff
Enjoyable biography with lots of world history.

Region: Australia/Oceania (region #7)
Aunt Dimity Down Under by Nancy Atherton
Really quick easy read.

Region: The Caribbean
Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe
Wikipedia says it was probably based on the island of Tobago. Please let me know if this doesn't work. Thanks!

Works for me!

Region: Europe
A Room With a View by EM Forester"
LOVE A Room with a View!

Region: Asia
Radio Shangri-La: What I Learned in the Happiest Place on Earth by Lisa Napoli
Highly recommend this book- and it's a good way to hit a country that might be hard to "travel" to otherwise!

It is well worth the read even if I wasn't doing this challenge. Enjoy!

Region: Europe
The Angel's Game by Carlos Ruiz Zafón
I don't really know what happened in this book. I'm not sure if it's because I listened to it as an audio book and wasn't able to follow it as well, or if it was just a weird book. I think it's probably the second option because I think I followed the ending pretty well and it was strange. I might go back and read this for real some day.

Region: Caribbean
Island Beneath the Sea by Isabel Allende
Agree with most of the reviews of this book- more interesting for the historical info than the characters.

Region: Latin America (region 8)
The News from Paraguay by Lily Tuck
I loved this book- one of my favorites in a long time. Not sure why all the negative reviews, but I thought it was unique and beautifully written.

I was curious about that one. The reviews did scare me a bit. I'll have to put it back on my list.

I think a lot of people may not have realized what the book was about and were expecting something else. The back cover doesn't exactly explain it all that well. I was surprised that it had as little violence as it did! Looking forward to your review, Dee!

The Quiet Girl: A Novel by Peter Høeg
I really did not like this book.

That's funny- I listened too. I liked his voice but I had a really hard time keeping up and following the story!

Region: Europe
Map of Bones by James Rollins
Really well paced thriller. This was a great, quick read. It could also count for Italy, Austria, France, and Egypt if you need to fill one of those countries. It looks like several of Rollins' books can fit into this challenge so I'm looking forward to reading more soon.

Region: Europe
Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand
I loved this book. Everyone should read it.

Region: Caribbean
Cuba by Emily Barr
Okay book. kind of a weird, dark read which I was not expecting.
