I just finished the chapter where he explains why he became vegan. So far, it's my favorite chapter. I'm not sure he repeats himself once! I've wanted to start yoga so I might like the meditation. :) Or I might come knock on your window. :)
No. I volunteer for a rescue and there was an emergency I had to deal with. I didn't even eat dinner last night. :( Was it awesome?
I'm told he MIGHT be available on Skype during our bookclub meet if we want. I don't think you missed too much though since you're reading the book.
That would be neat. I've never Skyped. I was looking forward to meeting people and eating good vegan food. :( There will be other times.
I'm going to try to make it, but a friend of mine is having a girls night in thing on Saturday that I'm helping her with (and attending), so if I'm home in time I am going to drag myself up there.
Yeah, Saturday night is girl's night out for me, too, but if I don't drink, I should be able to make it to brunch. That's a big IF though, lol.
Exactly. I am going to try to make it to Ethos some night this week though. I'm still doing alright with no dairy, but I keep eating things and then realizing after the fact that there were animal products in it. I'm also finding some seriously NOT VEGAN FRIENDLY restaurants. Brio is a joke if you're vegan.
It can be a bit overwhelming to realize how many seemingly innocent products have animal ingredients that aren't even necessary. It gets less so over time. You start to learn which brands are more reliable and which ones you shouldn't even bother to pick up to check out the ingredient list, lol.
I'm a "Good Eats" junkie (Food Network) and Alton was using Wonton wrappers. I have only found one place that sells Vegetarian Dumplings - P.F. Changs. I was so excited. Then Alton went over what is in Wonton wrappers - egg - and I think I cried a little. I did check out CRAVE at Millenia. I ordered the tempura veggie roll without cream cheese. I mentioned I was vegan. The server came back out and informed me they used egg in the batter (duh!) so I ordered the veggie roll. But, I liked that he informed me instead of just serving it because obviously I had no clue! I'm learning though. :)
Yeah, I haven't found any wonton wrappers either now that I think of it. They must exist unless Loving Hut & Garden Cafe makes theirs from scratch, which is a possibility.
Veg restaurants on Colonial (Garden Cafe is at 810 West Colonial [menu: http://www.gardencafevege.com/html/fo... Loving Hut is at 2101 East Colonial [menu: http://www.lovinghut.us/florida/menu.... ].
Garden Cafe is vegan except for their egg drop soup & a veggie burger that has cheese & mayo. It's neat ordering from there because you can pretty much just order what you would normally get from a regular chinese restaurant, such as General Tso's or Sweet & Sour "Chicken."
Loving Hut is completely vegan, Asian-fusion. They have a buffet on Sunday afternoons (and they almost always have veggie spring rolls on the buffet.) I didn't even miss shrimp, but their "Spicy Cha Cha" shrimp is my current favorite item on the menu.

I googled it yesterday and am stoked to go try it. Does their buffet have pancakes? I've been craving pancakes. Probably because of the stupid IHOP commercials for never-ending pancakes. I made Quinoa last night! It was great. :)
Ethos brunch is the only place I know to get vegan pancakes already made. Cherrybrook (brand) makes a good mix though. I know we carry it at Artichoke Red, but you can probably find it at Publix and Whole Foods, too, if those are closer. Target might even have it; I know they carry some of the Cherrybrook cake and cookie mixes.

"He typically presents a meditation, an educational talk on subjects covered in his book 'World Peace Diet', as well as a performance of original music, 'Piano Passion.' These are intended to generate energy for personal and planetary awakening."
Please note this is a separate event--we will still be meeting to discuss the book at Raphsodic the week after (Wednesday the 23rd of this month).
