I would like more oriental authors in the list of readings or advices. Most, western authors are mere rewriters of those first ones...
Great idea...be sure to nominate who you would like to see when book club nominations come up for September. I look forward to seeing who you choose!
I'd like to see more diversity too. We seem to be getting a lot of American Buddhist authors in the book club and not a lot else. Maybe we could start introducing themes for nominations (i.e. nominate a thai author, nominate an autobiography, nominate a classical buddhist text, nominate a peice of Buddhist-themed fiction) to give ourselves a little more variety?
I'm not sure that his holiness surfs the web, but Sharon Salzburg appears to be a member of this group, if not an active one.
I would think if his holiness does surf the web, he would most likely have his own site. Haven't checked yet.
You think? LOL. I'm also reading another book right now by him and an american psychiatrist called "The Pursuit of Happiness." In it, he is pretty much in constant motion, speaking at one event or another. Meeting privately with people. I don't think he gets a lot of "down" time.
I know! In The Art of Happiness at Work it was the same! He seems to be always doing something or going somewhere! What energy he has!
This week I am starting his book 'The Universe in a Single Atom' and I am very excited :) I love his work. I saw him speak in Albany NY a couple years ago and his peaceful precense filled the room. If you haven't seen a live dharma talk yet with him, do so as soon as you can!

Perhaps we could sort the books into bookshelves, such as Introductory, Zen, Tibetan, Buddhist Fiction, and whatever else. I only know about Tibetan Buddhism. I know nothing about Zen or the other kinds. Within Tibetan I could add books and sort them into various categories if anyone is interested.

"Sutra, and discourse on Sutra "
"General theory, discourses, and Buddhism Related Writing"
"Great Non-Buddhism Books, Buddhist Should read"

Babs, I would give it to him, since I'm one of the Mods of this group. I will do it this weekend and then you can have at it Fred! Do you have an idea about what "functions" your shelves will be??
I have a bunch of ideas. Of course by tradition (pali/theravadin/vipassana, mahayana/zen, tibetan) but then also some other specific categories like mindfulness, pilgrimage, etc. And of course we can tune it as we ago, totally open to suggestion. Thanks for opening it up to me.
