Go for it Kiki - if you're enthusiastic about it and you enjoy it, just get the thing down and don't worry about breaking rules. Once you've got a few chapters down, get someone (not your mother or best friend) like a critique partner on a writing group or, if you're really feeling rich, a professional editor's opinion, and then see what they say. But for the moment, get writing and don't worry. If you get stuck, you might be doing something wrong, but until that happens just keep going.
