I think that's the historical part. Trust me, I don't like it either, but...I PLAY BY THE RULES!! Most of the time...

My sister died today. She was only eight years old. My mother and father died in December. My sister was only one left in my family. All my cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, everyone is dead. I'm the only one left. My sister was carried away for her body to be burned. The air here always smells of the bodies. We work here all day long without even a little break. In a way I'm glad my sister is dead. She no longer has to go through everything I go through here. I'm glad her soul is at peace.

This morning I saw a woman crying. Her daughter had just died. The woman looked hungry and even skinnier than I. I gave her my breakfast. When I gave her my food her face instantly lit up. She seemed to forget where she was or that her daughter had just died, for that moment she was touched by the act of kindness I had did for her. "Thank you. What you just did just gave me some hope that there are kind people in the world." the woman said. I guess a little thing can make a big difference.

It is probably about 3 in the morning. I can't go back to sleep. I had this nightmare, where my sister, my family and I were in our house. It was my birthday and as I was about to blow out the candles Gestapo stormed into our house and killed my family. As they were about to shoot me I woke up. The nightmare was so realistic. It reminds me that I am all alone.

Some of the prisoners escaped last night. The warden was really mad. He yelled at all the guards for sleeping on the job. He made all the prisoners work extra hard and didn't even give us dinner. I went to bed hungry tonight. I'm really skinny now. I can see almost all of my bones. I wish there was more food.

Today was my sister's birthday. She would have been none if she hadn't died. I remember that for her 2nd birthday she wanted a stuffed elephant. I saved up all my pocket money just so she could have that toy. When she opened the elephant, her eyes lit up. She carried the elephant around for years. These days makes me think about the times we fought. We would yell and hit each other. It makes me sad to think about our fights, I never thought she would die so young. Happy birthday sis.

Maybe it's just me, but these days feel like they're ending. I have this feeling that something will change soon. Maybe this camp will be liberated and every one will be able to go home. Where would I go? I'm an orphan with no where to go. I will probably go to an orphanage.
April 11 1945
American troops have liberated this camp! I am so joyous! When they freed us they gave us a real meal. It was delicious. I haven't eaten that much for a long time. I saw that lady who I gave my breakfast to that one day. She came up to me and said,” Did you ever think this day would come?" I replied "No. My name is Leah. Where will you go now that you no longer have to stay here?" "Mine's Ida. Once the war ends, I shall go back to my home. What about you? Do you have anywhere to go?" she asked me "No." I said,” I 'm an orphan. Everyone in my family is dead." Ida pondered for a minute and then asked,” Would you like to come with me?" I was astounded this woman who I barely even know would let me into her home. I replied with a yes.
I have decided to leave this journal behind. It is filled with unhappy memories that I don't want to be reminded of. I have a feeling that every thing is going to get better.
