Through the Dollar Baby Program, we have been given permission to create a film based on Survivor Type. We will start filming in June 2011 and wrap up in July. All the shooting will take place in New York. If you would like to know more about the upcoming project contact us: SurvivorType.TheFilm@gmail.com or http://www.owenpalmiotti.com/survivor...

SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT!Based on the story topic, that should make for an interesting film, although I'm not sure how well it will translate. Part of the beauty of the story is that we are not actually there to see Richard decline to the point that he starts to eat himself, but instead get to create our own images from his writings. Even the end is left to our imagination (we do not see what happens after he stops writing). Do we see Richard actually eat his own body parts in the film?
Gatorman, can you please mark that as a spoiler for those who aren't familiar with the story? Please keep in mind that not everyone in the group has read all of King's stories, even though they may be older ones.
Yeah, the success of this story for me is how the horror creeps up on the reader. I don't know how they'll film that and keep the suspense going, unless more of the movie deals with his life before he gets to the island... (view spoiler)
Owen, It's good to see that you've been funded for a King film, but please, please be careful with this particular one. As everyone as mentioned or implied, the horror of this story plays out in the mind of the reader: it's not a particularly visually translatable story - although it would be a good one to do a hack job on, as Trudi mentions.
I hope my "hack job" comment didn't come off too harshly, because I didn't mean that it would be a hack job (I've removed that part of the comment now anyway because on second reading it seemed kind of rude of me) ... I love Bondama's point though: given the subject matter of the film, Survivor Type is excellent choice for a "hack" job if there ever was one... haha :)Good luck to all those involved, and I "hungrily" await its release with relish! :D

I let Becky handle that one. I'm just patiently waiting for the next time Dreamcatcher is brought up.

Hey guys, I just stumbled upon the trailer for this. Looks pretty interesting. It's going to be tough to track down a copy for viewing though, because the Dollar Baby projects are not meant to be commercial ventures. So no theatrical or DVD release. The films are showed at festivals and if you meet the criteria, you get a personal DVD copy. But that's it. Anyway, love the poster!
Hi all,I'm the Director of the Dollar Baby whose poster is shown above. I wanted to point out that the movie is screening three times in the next month in various locales.
In Southern California:
August 19th, 2012 5:30pm in Monrovia, CA (LA area) at the Krikorian Theater as part of the Action on Film International Film Festival.
In Lousiana:
September 7th, 2012 8:00pm in Shreveport, LA at the East Bank Theater as part of the Phenom Film Festival.
In Georgia (close to parts of Alabama and Tennessee as well):
September 7th, 2012 11:00pm in Rome, GA at the DeSoto Theater as part of the Rome International Film Festival
I will personally be at the Monrovia and Rome screenings. If anyone from goodreads would like to come check it out, please do!
what Stephen King story is this from ? what book ? Skeleton Crew ? I don't remember this for some reason.
The story is actually titled "Survivor Type" and yes, it's from Skeleton Crew. You most probably don't remember it because it is so disturbing that you blocked it out. It's about a doctor who's stranded on a VERY deserted tiny island and has to resort to extreme measures in his quest for some sort of food. (view spoiler)
n/m I googled it but I don't remember this story at all - I was really young when I read this book though.

Man I wish I could've done this!

I wanted to mention that the adaptation of "Survivor Type" talked about in this thread is goign to be playing tonight (Nov 8, 2012) at the NYC Horror Film Festival. If you are in the New York/New Jersey area, I hope you are safe and dry. If you can safely make it out, the movie is playing at Tribeca Cinemas at 7:00pm, opening for the indie feature Nailbiter, which is a great film as well.
I know that I have read this book. But it has been awhile I can't recall, may have to read it again. Can't wait they working on a Movie Adaptation of the book " Cell " that should be good.

Hi Chris, I only just now (11/08/2012) saw this thread, and I am so disappointed I missed your screening in Rome! I live here, and would loved to have known about it. Any chance you will be coming back to Rome or Atlanta (I'd gladly make the trip!) I was blown away to see that you had been here in Rome.. such a small town, I should have heard about it anyway! The DeSoto is one of our landmarks. How did it go here???
