Maybe their faith was corrupted after God gave their community a religion, in A Historical Lie : The Stone Age i read that the Mayans spoke vaguely of a prophet like figure who came to them in ancient times and preached the existence of One God.
I lived in Guatemala for just over a year and spent a lot of time working with the indigenous Maya. Their indigenous religion does mention a pale skinned man with a beard that came from the East, telling of "one god" and that he would come back in the "end of days". Many people equate this person with Christ.
the only thing that is really wonderful for me is that 2 religions faaaar... from each other are pointing to 1 thing! both of them are addressing to 1 person that will come to save the world from cruelty! they are really far... how come possible?
Well from an Islamic perspective, Allah has revealed in the Quran that he has sent messengers to every community of the world with His message. Asking these people to worship Him and Him alone. Even though the Quran mentions only 25 of these prophets by name, we are told that there have been in excess of 100,000 prophets. Some of them were accepted, some rejected. And most of these faiths were subsequently corrupted or changed by its practitioners. But some elements of truth remain. That is why we're told as Muslims to be very careful in criticizing other faiths. Because it is likely that these faiths are in some way connected to a true faith sent down by Allah sometime in the ancient past.

I actually dont have access to the complete source to verify what he said but if its true then i think you should know the relation of this to "Imam of Time" in Islam. This is really interesting for me. if anyone found the complete source on the internet which is downloadable or not please let me know. and i wanted to know your ideas about this and at last you should forgive me for my poor and informal childish way of expressing things to you.
