Ummmmm.....If she didn't care for those, I can't think of another series that she would enjoy (I might be a bit partial...I've listened to both of them TWICE!!). :) I do like the Guild Hunters as well but I am just now reading book 2 so I'm a newbie. I guess she could try the Black Dagger series. Not my favorite, but I know many who enjoyed them a lot.Out of curiosity, does she say what she didn't like about Sookie and/or Fever??
Both of those series have been big hits for me as well. I'm wondering if the world building in paranormal may be a problem?? But, no, she doesn't mention why she dislikes those series.
Well, there's Mercy Thompson and Alpha & Omega. It sounds like maybe she's looking for less complicated paranormal series? I think the Anne Rice series was just vampires while a lot of today's paranormal series are "multi creature" worlds.
Hmmm, as another Sookie and Mac fan I'm not sure what I've heard that might work for her... I agree with what's already been mentioned as other good series.
Does she want romance? Ilona Andrews On The Edge and Bayou Moon have that along with a unique world. Some gritty descriptions of characters or events though. Like with their Kate Daniels series, which I'd also recommend.
Light, funny and snarky with some romance. Maryjanice Davidson's Queen Betsy or Molly Harper's Jane Jameson.
More of a straight up paranormal series would be Jim Butcher's Harry Dresden, I've heard a lot of good but haven't personally listened to them.
Well, to me there's PNR which focuses more on the romance and has paranormal elements. Then there is UF which is more on the paranormal elements with some romance thrown in or that grows over series. I read her post and it's unclear which she is looking for. Her saying those were too confusing makes me think that she wouldn't enjoy the UF as much as PNR.As for PNR rec's:
Keri Arthur - Full Moon Rising - First of the Riley Jensen series. Book 1 is read by Justine Eyre who does good job. Tantor released all others in series read by Angela Dawe who does great job. Audible has book 6 read by Susan Lyons (released by Recorded Books) and the narration bugged me so have to be careful to get Tantor version! Warning - first 3 books of this series is a bit smutty... She might not like this one because main character is Dhampire (1/2 werewolf / 1/2 vampire) and there is genetic experimentation.
Molly Harper - Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs - Jane Jameson series read by Amanda Ronconi - agree that's it's a light, funny chic-lit listen with a good narrator.
Ilona Andrews - On the Edge Read by Renee Raudman - More the romance HEA type.
Christine Feehan - Wild Rain - Leopard series is pretty good. This is book 2 but I enjoyed books 3 and 4 more and am looking forward to 5 coming out this spring. Her Drake Sisters series is also more straight forward romance with the magic thrown in.
Nalini Singh - Angels' Blood - Love Nalini and of course, she'll be able to get Psy/Changling next month. (squeee)
Nora Roberts - Nora's written a few PNR trilogies that are pretty good. Circle Trilogy (read by Dick Hill) and Three Sisters Island (read by Sandra Burr).
UF Rec's:
Patricia Briggs - Moon Called - read by Lorelei King - GREAT series! I don't think the world building is too overwhelming and there is the romance that grows over series. Caveat about reader if someone has already associated LK's voices with another series. Cry Wolf from Alpha & Omega series is good as well but you have to read the short story from anthology Prowl first! Read by Holter Graham.
Carrie Vaughn - Kitty and the Midnight Hour - read by Marguerite Gavin. This is a fun series and there is a lot of character growth for Kitty over course of series. Not as much world building in this first book and more spread out over series. Romance happens around book 3 in series.
Ilona Andrews - Magic Bites - Read by Renee Raudman - LOVE this series but books 1 and 2 "suffer" from length restriction and amount of world building involved. (Still love the books but series get better with each book!) Romance develops and expands over series.
Gail Carriger - Soulless - Read by Emily Gray - I really enjoyed this series in audio!! The first couple of chapters were a bit slow but worth it! Light on romance.
Jeaniene Frost - Halfway to the Grave - read by Tavia Gilbert - Took me a while to adjust to her reading of Bones but liked it well enough once I got used to it. Series is good and Book 2 is pretty famous for Chapter 32's sex.
I'm enjoying Feehan's first Ghostwalker book narrated by Tom Stechshulte. Maybe she want's PNR but not so much the vampire stuff??
Excellent breakdown Vic, all good stuff.Tom Stechshulte really makes those books doesn't he Carrie?
Lea I wonder if she would consider Bujold's Sharing Knife series? It is more fantasy than paranormal but you get a unique romance and it's beautifully narrated.
I found it easy to listen to without having read the books so the world building was smooth enough.
Carrie wrote: "I'm enjoying Feehan's first Ghostwalker book narrated by Tom Stechshulte. Maybe she want's PNR but not so much the vampire stuff??"Carrie - heads up - audible sale extended and they added Mind Game for $4.95 (US).
She said she liked Anne Rice though which I definitely wouldn't consider Romance. That's a great summary, Vic; it's a comment I'd like to save. Did you see my post on your librarian topic?
Thanks for the heads-up on Mind Game. I've been thinking about trying that series.
Also the Chicagoland Vampire series:
Dark Swan Series
Okay so way to many books to try to list them individually...here are the rest
The HollowsKim Harrison
Undead/Queen BetsyMaryJanice Davidson
Cassandra Palmer SeriesKaren Chance
Dark Hunter Series Sherrilyn Kenyon
Black Dagger Brotherhood J.R. Ward
Signs of the Zodiac Vicki Peterson

I thought of another one:Delilah Street; Paranormal Investigator by Carole Nelson Douglas
I have the 1st book but haven't gotten to it yet.
Excellent! Thank you all so much. And, of course keep any other recommendations coming. I finally just directed the AAR poster over here since she was open to that. I was in the middle of putting together a post at AAR and it was VERY long.

I did not know this was on audio......

Thank you all for the great ideas. I'm set now. I am definitely a PNR person. I don't know what that stands for but the romance is the most important. And Vic a little smut is fine by me!! Lea thank you for all your help.
The more smut the better (generally speaking) as long as it works in the book. And oddly enough I haven't gotten into any most of the books. I like/love:Jeaniene Frost
Kelley Armstrong
Katie MacAllister
JR Ward
Susan Briggs? Sharon Briggs? The Mercy books.
I'm on the fence with Nalini Singh -- they're a little graphic for me when I'm falling asleep, but I love her dearly as a person
So far a lot of the others haven't worked for me

PNR = paranormal romance - and smut's fine by me as well! ;)
Nichole wrote: "I just finished the audio for
and thought it was pretty good....this could be added to the list" I actually listened to this one and thought it was OK but it was first person IIRC. I had a hard time when I started book 2 and couldn't keep straight who was talking since the POV switched to one of the sisters. I stopped listening and never re-visited.
I love Patricia Briggs and I am currently listening to the Kitty Norville Series. They are both great! :)
I'm really enjoying the Georgina Kinkaid series by Richelle Mead - starts with Succubus Blues and narrated by Elisabeth Rogers...I just finished book 3 and waiting to start book 4 until closer to the release of the final book in the series (August)
I picked up Pleasure Unbound and Desire Unchained in audio. I read them but really enjoyed them on audio. I liked the first one better though. The narrator of the second one is Hillary Huber (sp?) who does the Midnight Breed ones. I like her but I just kept thinking about the midnight breeds when I heard her voice. Those are good on audio too.Dee...I need to see if I can get those Richelle Mead ones.
