Kyle McMillion (McMillionkp) | 69 comments Hey, I was just curious as to what everyone's favorite quote and scene is in the Wise Man's Fear.

I honestly liked most of the female scenes with Kvothe because I could just feel and see it. I could feel the sexual tension between everyone. I don't have one specific scene I like more than the others, but I really enjoyed the scene between Kvothe and Denna when he gave her the ring back. You could cut the sexual tension between them with a knife and the way Pat described her frock riding up I could picture that and see the entire scene. I could feel Kvothe's heart beat racing. I loved it and I'm not sure about my fav quote right now.

Kyle McMillion (McMillionkp) | 69 comments I also found the part about Kvothe and Elodin being trapped on the roof of the archives nude hilarious.

message 3: by Gavin (new)

Gavin I gotta say there was some better scenes in wmf but better quotes in notw.

my scene would be Felurian. The whole time was like tense with sexual imagery passing through my mind. Tring to imagine the world of fae. everlasting twilight, her pavilion and glade, the pond where they swam, the making of the shade with star/moon light, the cteah and its blossoms with the falling butterfly wings. and not to mention the most beautiful woman in the world.

also, severen. over looking severen low at night while the nobility piss all over it.

the maer's garden with denna.

his time with the adem too.

quotes "his ass fell off" lol
and "for all that, she lacked your fire"
"i need you to breathe for me"
"nice?"
also the one that kinda like " you're not a gentleman, you already told me youre a theif" You're just trying to steal a look up my skirt" :)

message 4: by Kyle (new)

Kyle McMillion (McMillionkp) | 69 comments lol yeah I loved that last quote too... these books evoked quite a few emotions out of me I love it. I loved Felurian as well she was another of my favorite scenes, but I also liked Penthe as well the Ademic woman. I loved the Felurian scene, but all the sexual things she taught him made me want to know what it was like the thousand fingers thing

message 5: by Gavin (new)

Gavin "only because you're good at thousand hands"

message 6: by Kyle (new)

Kyle McMillion (McMillionkp) | 69 comments yeah thousand hands that's what it was....I really want to know what that is...I want to meet Felurian....

Kurt Mcabee | 11 comments "Stop grabbing at my tits" -Elodin

Best line in the book

message 8: by Kyle (new)

Kyle McMillion (McMillionkp) | 69 comments lol yeah I def love Elodin. His lines are some of the best.

Jonathan Moss (thanrand) "...delicious candy."

Am I the only one who cracked up every time they said it?

message 10: by Kyle (new)

Kyle McMillion (McMillionkp) | 69 comments No I laughed as well. I loved the lines of humor in this book. I love how he captures the sarcasm and asshole gibes in friendship

You would love The Conqueror's Shadow then. The sarcasm is priceless.

Kyle McMillion (McMillionkp) | 69 comments I will have to check it out...thank you

Sophie (kurosymph) | 29 comments The prologue and the end are my favorites. So many clues in them!

Natasa (natasalikes) | 21 comments Now this, THIS, was an awesome piece of literary genius:

"Hespe's mouth went firm. She didn't scowl exactly, but it looked like she was getting all the pieces of a scowl together in one place, just in case she needed them in a hurry."

I paused over that sentence and re-read it at least 3 times because of its sheer awesomeness. What can I say, it just struck me as remarkable. :)

"I scowled as loudly as I could."

message 18: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Moss (thanrand) Ditto, Kyle.

message 19: by Eric (new)

Eric | 7 comments Elodin's "Quit grabbing at my tits." is def the best line in the book, but since that's already been mentioned, another of my favorites is:

"Their eyes went to the flickering fire, then back to me. I was one of those. I meddled with dark powers. I summoned demons. I ate the entire little cheese, including the rind."

message 20: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (cbcrawford32) | 4 comments Sorry... "His ass fell off" was by far the best!

message 21: by Kyle (new)

Kyle McMillion (McMillionkp) | 69 comments Yeah I really love "Quit grabbing at my tits." I've started using that

message 22: by TheThirdLie (new)

TheThirdLie I can't think of my favorite quote right now, but one of my favorite scenes was when Kvothe was using the dead solider to do harm on the other soldiers out in the woods. Not because I enjoy gore or anything like that but because it was such a powerfully emotional scene. I was literally horrified and dismayed on Kvothe's behalf. The entire scene there was just this terrible and bleak feeling in the pit of my stomach. I don't think I've ever experienced this combination before in a book so it definitely stood out.

Sherri | 3 comments JK wrote: "I can't think of my favorite quote right now, but one of my favorite scenes was when Kvothe was using the dead solider to do harm on the other soldiers out in the woods. Not because I enjoy gore or..."

I'm with you on this one as a favourite - I certainly do not enjoy gore either but the part was so skillfully written and carefully crafted to portray the desperation of the moment- Kvothe did what he knew was needed which no-one else could or probably would not do at that precise time, which makes this a necessary not gratuitous scene. I thought about it quite a lot after reading. Much like the scenes when Kvothe rescues the two young girls who have been taken by the bandits masquerading as Edema Ruh- really clever writing provoking deep feelings.

message 24: by Michael (new)

Michael Hawk (mehawk) | 66 comments Favorite scene would be the Maer's garden at night, a close second, the river near the end. (I know, hopeless romantic headed for beating in book 3) So many quotes though...not just the funny ones, but the language at times is just so beautiful I repeat it to myself in hopes of remembering it all, I fail, but that's okay as its just an excuse to go again. I don't think I could pick a favorite for more than a moment, but I would love to try and and tell the story of the boy with the golden screw. (Does anyone know if that is a PR original or is that an adaptation of something?)

I loved those as well. I am a hopeless romantic as well and I am dreading what will happen between them in the third book. I really hope something happens that makes them be together at the end but not at the expense of the story

message 26: by TheThirdLie (new)

TheThirdLie Sherri: I definitely enjoyed the whole bit with the fake Edema Ruh as well. That was another really well written emotional sequence.

I do hope that last bandit died too with that. Kvothe was a fair bit out of it so he may have mistaken the severity of the wound - much like he did his own. If the bandit didn't die, there could be serious problems for Kvothe down the road.

message 27: by Phil the Arcane (new)

Phil the Arcane (philthearcane) | 43 comments Not really a favourite scene or quote but I just Googled "edema" and "ruh".

It roughly translates in to "Swelling Spirit".

In reply to your (very old) question, the story of the ass falling off is an adaptation of one of those old "non-jokes" told in elementary schools. The idea is to tell a long, nonsensical story that's only meant to annoy the listener. The original was about a girl with a ribbon around her neck, she promises to tell the boy she's with why she wears the ribbon but she keeps putting him off (until kindergarten, then until 5th grade, then until they've graduated, then until they're married, baby's born, etc.) and finally when they're very old she takes off the ribbon... and her head falls off.

Susan | 202 comments I really loved the chapter 'The Nature of Nobility', and pretty much every piece with Elodin in it.
I also loved the few chapters of him earning his Silver Pipes in the first book.

Michele | 31 comments I'm a librarian, trained as an archivist. My favorite scene is the description of the "Hidden City." Very realistic.

That story always used to freak me out as a kid, but I would reread it over and over again.....

message 33: by Meenam (last edited Oct 05, 2011 05:36PM) (new)

Meenam | 12 comments favorite line would have to be when Devi says she would own half the world already if she had the....assests of Fela. And then Sim chimes in, "You and me both." I laughed for a solid half hour after reading that.

message 34: by Diana (new)

Diana | 2 comments it's difficult to choose just ONE quote or one scene from such a long, amazing and deep book. I mean, every word of that book it's pure gold, but if I have to choose my favorite would be
"So yes. It had flaws. But what does it matter when it comes to matters of the heart? We love what we love. Reason does not enter into it. Actually, unwise love is the truest love. Anyone can love something because. That's as easy as putting a penny in your pocket. But to love something despite, to know it's flaws and love them too. That is rare and pure and perfect."

I did learned it, I tought that it explained love so perfectly in just one paragraph. Good jop Pat hahaha. Also, the name of Elodin's class got me laughting like an idiot for some good minutes.

and my favorite part must be during Kvothe's exam with the Adem, all the scene was incredible, I could imagine it perfectly and as always i just loved Kvothe's cleverness

Thankyou...just added it to my to-read list :-)

Ancapaillmor | 76 comments The scene with penthe and the man mothers, just the way she shot down kvothes proofs, if I you were ignorant of such things you'd totally side with her. Dunno why but I love that scene.

Funny, tempi asking why would the maer look at your hairy balls, brilliant on audio because podehl does the adem with a Nordic accent. Nearly swerved of the road at the time.

Mags | 3 comments Not too sure about quote..

But scene would have to be when Kvothe slaughters all the fake Edema Ruh travellers who had kidnapped the 2 girls from the local town. After 1 and a half books of Kvothe swooning over Denna and acting like a girly girl i was starting to get annoyed. THIS scene, and the bandit scene are what kept me reading. Finally some adult reading amidst alot of baby themes. I had to blink twice at what i was reading, "Kvothe killing women?? "Hells yeah!"

message 38: by Scans (new)

Scans | 64 comments Kvothe to Denna, "I've been waiting to show these flowers how pretty you are." awesome

message 39: by Beastboy (new)

Beastboy | 3 comments Favorite scene:
When he plays the Lute in Adem. It's just so beautiful, and it all means much more as Adem view music like sex.

Best line:
It's hard. But every time he mentions Elodin in the Felurian bit is awesome.

But a quote that I like by itself...

"The Waystone was his, just as the third silence was his. This was appropriate, as it was the greatest silence of the three, holding the others inside itself. It was deep and wide as autumn’s ending. It was heavy as a great riversmooth stone. It was the patient, cut-flower sound of a man who is waiting to die."
It just stroke me at the end of the book. Even though it was the 4th time reading it.
Just because I knew that by the end of the third book, if Bast is sucessful, this paragraph will be different and really enjoyable. And so I won't do what I always do, steal a look at the last line of the book. xD (Yeah, I'm awkward, but it is always funny, and it never spoils the rest of the book.)
