Series or No Series
Depends on the book! Some books i would jump at the fact that they might be a series and others i would prefer if it was a single book! :)
Haha the only times I read non-series books are when they're non-paranormal LOL. They're just normal books with normal human people x)
:P I don't actually remember the last time I read a book that wasn't in a series- most books are these days.
Once I start a story and I like it, it's always sad to know that it's finished. So when I read a series, I find comfort in knowing there will be more books for me to enjoy :)
Series can be frustrating when you have to wait a year for the sequel...but that makes it all the more sweeet ;)A single novel can provide a complete satisfaction without any cliffhangers...
Depends on what mood I'm in!

As I writer, series. You want to draw readers into your works by keeping them in one story for one plus book. That's just me, though. As a reader, I will read either. If I like the characters, I will most likely continue a series. It depends on how well written the book is.
I tend to get burnt out on stuff bigger than a trilogy if it's not very good, but that's not always true.
I LOVE series, I rarely read a single book because series can continue the story for multiple books and I especially like the series if I get attached to characters.

Me too! It's so nice to finish one book and have the rest of the sequel to enjoy!!

This is a good point- I don't think I have ever read a paranormal book that is not part of a series. I like it that way because I think when dealing with paranormal characters, it takes 1 book just to develop who they are and what they can do. I notice the first book is usually all about character development, and then the books that follow it are more involved.
SERIES FOR ME PLEASE. I prefer when a character develops through a series. I grow attached to the mains and supporting cast.
definitely series! i like it when a story continues on and you get to live the life of the characters, like your in their world and everything. the fact that the story is set out in a series makes it even better since you get to know the characters and watch them grow and develop. its an awesome feeling :D
SERIES. What Michelle said, thats what I think too:P
Doesn't really matter to me and it really depends on the book. But I prefer long stories. It's just more fun to read and less sad about it being almost over. Though if the book/story isn't completely endearing, then please tell me what happens and let it be over so I can move on...
It's not so much series/not series but length for me.

I like better long stories and if the series is capturing, than the longer-the better :)
Series. Stand alone books are simply too boring because it finishes before you can even blink an eye.
Most of the books I read nowadays are part of a series whether they're stand-alone novels that are part of a series or a series that follows one person from beginnig to end. I've come to prefer series but that's not to say I think that I just read books that are part of a series. Some books like Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre or Gone with the Wind are not meant to be series and people shouldn't try make them into one.
It depends on the book. Sometimes a story needs to be told in that format, but other times it really only needs one book. Going on is overkill. XP I usually read more stand-alone books. Many of my favorites are just stand-alones, though I do read and love many series books as well.

well i mostly read series's cause they last longer and are AWESOME :] but i still read books that aren't in a series since some can be really cool
As long as a series is pre-planned then I love them. Like J.K. with HP. She knew how Deathly Hallows would end before she ever started writing PS/SS. Ones that aren't planned aren't usually very good. Sometimes authors just decide to drag a story out over several books and it just gets annoying.
I love a good series, but stand alone books are just much cheaper. I mean, Gossip Girl has over 13 books (been reading those since I was 13 or so)!
I prefer a good series for the simple fact that you get to know the author and characters better. I love the excitement of a new book release for a series. I do some stand alones, but not many.
I like series ONLY when the world/characters call for it. Sometimes, it feels like an author pushes characters beyond their shelf life, just to squeeze another book out of them (ex: the Anita Blake series), thus losing all the character integrity we once loved and making that character someone completely unrecognizeable.Smiles!

I definitely agree that it depends on the book. Sometimes the plot line has a lot too it and it can't all fit in one book and multiple books are required to make the story complete. I do think that some plots are dragged out and you do get lost in all of the words.
I like series when there aren't too many books involved. I think trilogies are the best types of series because they aren't too long and the plot doesn't get all tangled up in the drama. But I also like stand alone novels because they are quick and to the point.

Yeah, I like series. I like to the change in characters over the books. I don't dislike a book that's not a series though. There are certain books that just DON'T need to be continued. Exhibit A:
I really don't get why it was necessary to make a second book. I did not see a second book coming. The ending of the first book revealed nothing in the ending of there being a continuance with something like a cliff-hanger. And then there are some books that I hope will be continued eve though it seems that it will only be a novel:
I pretty much agree with every one :) I love a series but not any more than about 6ish books because it just drags out too far (ie House of night series!) Although 7 books totally work for Harry potter! :) The only thing that's drives me mad is the wait!!! But it definitely builds excitement :) I haven't read many stand alone books but I just don't feel the same love for them :)
Series definitely! If I love a story I'd not want it to end. But I agree the wait is so excruciating. That and sometimes dragging unimportant things are the only downsides of the series. But generally stand alones dont captivate me the same way.
Series, but I like when the author already knows how many books the series will have. For me that makes the waiting a little bit better. But I agree that waiting for the next book so painful!!!
Lu wrote: "Series, but I like when the author already knows how many books the series will have."I agree :) if they have a plan then it generally means the series will be good and not go too crazy towards the end :)

I just realized that most of the books I own are all part of a series. Realistic fiction books usually stand a lone but, paranormal books that are not part of a series??
I can't think of one...
I think that books that are part of a series get way too tangle up in lots of drama until the point you forget the original plot and you don't know whom was whom.
So, series or no series?
