Nobel Prize Winners discussion

As 'Sula' is relatively short, we need to think about our next Group Read which will start on April 17th. I am very much in your hands in this matter but it strikes me that we could either:

1 Select an author from the period 2001-2010, or

2 Select another book by Mario Vargas Llosa, the current laureate, or

3 Select an author from the period 1981-1990.

What do you think?

If we were reading an author from the period 2001-2010, I would go with Betrayal by Harold Pinter.

If we were reading an author from the period 1981-1990, I would go with either something from Gabriel García Márquez, or The Invitation by Claude Simon

I'm leaning more towards Simon though...

I'd like to read Orhan Pamuk from 2001-10. He is my favorite Turkish writer.

Not sure I want to read another translation from Spanish so soon after Vargas Llosa. Have been wanting to read "My Name Is Red" by Orham Pamuk. Or, any other non-Spanish speaking author - LOL!

My Name is Red is a great idea. I read that book once in 1998 when it was published. I'd like to read second time and also be great reading in mother language.

I agree with you, Bruce. I feel the same way that I'd get much more out of reading My Name is Red a second time

The poll is posted, hopefully you will all have received an invitation to participate. I selected all 28 names other than my own on the invitation but after I pressed the 'invite' button, the program responded that I had invited 27 people, so if someone hasn't had an invitation to vote, please accept my apologies and vote anyway. By a narrow margin the next Group Read will be Orhan Pamuk's My Name is Red. I read this a couple of years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Let's hope we can generate a good discussion with this one.
