Colorful Chick Lit Challenge discussion

Hi Everyone,

I just started What Looks LIke Crazy On an Ordinary Day by Pearl Cleage. From the discription of the book, I thought it fit all of the rules of this challenge. Apparently the lead character, Ava is dealing with a pretty serious issue. All, in all, I think this will still end up qualifying for this challenge. I'll have to keep everyone posted.

Have any of you read this book or anything else from Pearl Cleage? I am really enjoying her writing style.

I read it a while back and loved it. She has written many books. Baby Brother Blues is a good one, too. She was also on Oprah for What looks like Crazy years ago.

Great book. In my eyes, Pearl Cleage can do nothing wrong!

Hi Ladies, I just finished the book and 1 - I think it meets the qualifications of the reading challange. And 2 - I thought it was just ok. I thought the writing style was very enjoyable but the plot was flat at times and very rushed at others. Will I read another one from her; maybe, maybe not.

You may want to try I Wish I Had a Red Dress, but I totally understand if her writing style doesn't do it for you. Have you read J. California Cooper? Her work doesn't fit the chick lit genre, but she's a great story teller. Reading her books is like sitting on your granny's porch while she tells you about the good old days.

Thanks for the recommendations. I was considering I Wish I Had a Red Dress if I read another from Cleage. I really liked the writing style, just the plot seemed so slow at times. I have Life Is Short But Wide on my "to-read" list.

Lisa, I so agree that Kari should give I Wish I Has a Red Dress a read. In my numble opnion, its a great read.

I just finished another book for this challenge: by Dorothy Koomson. It was a wonderful read. I highly recommend it!

Kari I really enjoyed My Best Friend's Girl. It wasn't at all what I thought it would be nor did it turn out the way I thought it would. Glad I picked it up.

Right now I'm reading A Life Lived Ridiculously, a hilarious book by a British author.
I hope to get more recommendations from others. My style is women's fiction and humor. Anything like A Life Lived Ridiculously and Bridget Jones' Diary is right up my street.
