Audrey ~ EXO-L (lunewhisper7) I have a new story idea, but I'm sure that it will suck. I don't really want to show it. All of my stories sink like bad.

message 12: by Audrey ~ EXO-L (new)

Audrey ~ EXO-L (lunewhisper7) Okay, so I have this story named Light. The main character is a girl named Iris Lee. She loves to write and is new to a middle school. Her only friend is her creative writing teacher, Miss Bobek. Her mom is dead and lives with her dad. Miss Bobek mentions a boy named Lune who is shy. I don't know what will happen next because I stalk my characters instead of plotting...

In reply to your message "hi" and thanks for stopping in.

Tim Greaton | 2 comments Hi, Meg. Is it as much work as it looks like moderating so many threads. I envy your energy :-)

message 19: by Denise (new)

Denise | 8 comments Well I thought I would say HI also! This weekend I have been following the blog Tour de Troops where thirty plus indie authors are generously giving away a copy of their book as well as one to the troops for each comment made. This is a lot of fun, very thought provoking, and lots of good reads. Thanks for sharing the discussion with me!

I do it because it's fun, you don't need to be jealous.

That sounds great. I'll be sure to check it out!

Denise | 8 comments I read an interesting post from Melissa Foster today. She says she just keeps on writing and then goes back over it again and again and again. I have noted other authors (who do not have specific contract deadlines) have said they have the freedom to set it aside take a breather and start something else, maybe revisiting the previous work at another time. However, the overwhelming comments I have read say JUST KEEP WRITING, it does not matter what - JUST DON'T STOP. Nice chatting with you. Be Well.

This happens to me sometimes. Usually, during the brainstorming process I have ideas for later chapters in the story. If I get stuck then I just skip to a later chapter to write. Is this helpful?

Good advice.

message 25: by Audrey ~ EXO-L (new)

Audrey ~ EXO-L (lunewhisper7) I have the same problem. My stories are completely abandoned.

message 26: by Denise (new)

Denise | 8 comments I am not a writer and don't really know what my idea would be worth practically speaking, but what would happen if you took the abandoned stories and read them altogether and searched for a thread that would evolve into something new and different? You never know it could be beautiful.

I'm glad you are! And it is fun to see people share their ideas and advice. Which gives me an idea! I could create a 'Ideas & Advice folder!

Ah! Well let me suggest Shakespeare's Secret by Elise Broach for a mystery, Forget Me Not by Coleen Murtagh Paratore for some romance (it's the 4th in a series), and not everyone I know likes this one but A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle. If there's a book your already read from these choices I'll suggest a new one.

Good, because you do not want to hear what some people say about it. For starters, they think of it as weird sci-fi.
