Chris (evilgoodwin) | 11 comments So, I've just recently (this year) stumbled into the whole Goodreads thing, and decided to do a "100 books in 2011" challenge. However, I'm lagging behind my monthly goal. From the CoG boards, I've taken a few reading recommendations before, and am looking forward to the Dresden Files (along with anything else he's written, if I like him enough), The Malazan series, and so on.

Yet, I'm still behind. I was planning on supplementing my reading with another read-through of every Discworld book I own (and every Star Wars book I owned (up until Vector Prime), but I don't want to cop-out and reread things I've already done before (though there will be a few). Here's where you can help.

As of today, I've finished 12 books. I'm partial to series (if I like something, I tend to treat it as one long book), but I'm open to anything. I will also read all of the books on the group's shelf, so no worries there.

So throw some suggestions my way. Is Shannara any good? Any fantasy that isn't as big as Wheel of Time, but you still enjoy? Any one-shots by favored authors?

While this does echo my post of me wanting fantasy series, I'm opening myself up to ANYTHING this time (save non-fiction).

This also serves a dual-purpose: This group is silent. TOO silent. I love the book thread on CoG, but I want some activity here, too!

Tim (hunterx280) | 50 comments For me 100 books is too many. I just don't have enough time. I think I set my goal for the year at 24. That's only 2 a month. I think I'm fairly close to on schedule.

Brian (xerionus) | 13 comments Only books I read this year have been comics. O_o

Chris (evilgoodwin) | 11 comments I've added some classics that I haven't read in a while, like "Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde." and some H.G. Wells. I think I can pull this off.

Matthew (zudoccon) | 5 comments Have you read The dragonlance series?
I really enjoyed it when i was a teenager and again a few years back.

Chris (evilgoodwin) | 11 comments I never knew where to start that series. Heard about it, but was lost when it came to starting.

Bee (astranoir) | 14 comments If you can handle mysteries, they're often quick, fun reads. There's all the old Agatha Christie stuff, the newer No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series, some young adult series like Alfred Hitchcock's The Three Investigators, etc. Most of the time, mystery series aren't going to be particularly literarily challenging, though, if you're looking for that. I've been awful about reading much at all. If I even got 1 book per month done this year, that would be phenomenal :-/

Matthew (zudoccon) | 5 comments Look for the Dragonlance Chronicles trilogy.
Dragons of autumn Twilight is the first one, then there's Dragon's of Winter night and then Dragons of spring dawning.

message 9: by Chris (new)

Chris (evilgoodwin) | 11 comments I forgot about the Agatha Christie books. I'll add them to the list.

Dragonlance Chronicles, eh? Added to the list.

I'm not really out to challenge myself with hard literature. I just want to read 100 books I've never read before (or don't remember reading).

Currently enjoying Dresden Files, though. I can probably finish a good amount of them in April.

Mike (thereadherring) Holy crap, the group is active again.

I tried to do this last year and was making some good headway until life got in the way. I`m trying it again this year and I`m positive I`ll fall short again.

Fubl | 2 comments I've set my goal at 140 books for the year. Currently at 27

J.J. (jjmahoney) | 5 comments I think I set mine at 30 and I'm at 8. I read a ton at the beach in June. We go for 2 weeks. That'll help me catch up if I start getting behind.

message 13: by Chris (new)

Chris (evilgoodwin) | 11 comments Yeah, we have a beach vacation coming up and I always talk my way out of driving, so I can read on the way up there AND on the way back. I'm not going to worry about my count until the end of June. If I'm not at 50 by then, I need to hustle.

Konstantin Anthony Romanov Ⅰ (emperorkonstantin) | 4 comments I'm 15 books in my 100 total, and 14 books behind. But, as I do everything, I shoot for the moon and at the very least I'll end up amongst the stars—or satellites...

I'm actually more than half finished with at least 8 books on my "currently reading" list, so I'll probably be at about 30 by the end of May. Reading books that are over 1000 pages long really doesn't help though, that's 2-4 regular sized books.

J.J. (jjmahoney) | 5 comments I'm 10 books into my goal of 30. I'm glad I haven't tried to throw huge books into my list. Dune is the biggest one so far but I read The Graveyard Book and Coraline at the same time so that added 2 more complete while I try and get through Dune. At least that way I can keep adding finished books to my list if I'm getting hung up or having a hard time getting through a larger book. I don't want one book to slow (or halt) my progress.

Chris (evilgoodwin) | 11 comments I'm 24 books into my 100, only 6 behind. I had to stop reading for fun, though, due to me reading instead of working on essays. I did start Dresden 10 tonight, though, because I went to eat some pho for the first time in two weeks, and I can't eat pho without reading something. But soon.
