Tristan Wong (TheMonolith) | 82 comments A friend of my at VFS has this little chirade where in the mere utterance of James Cameron's name or any of his movies, he goes ballistic. Now I understand why, he used to be a film student and knows the in's and out's to the art. In fact, he ruined a couple movies for me, especially most of the sound design. The bastard. But James Cameron I respect to a certain degree because of the technical aspect of it all.

He invented Avatar (a movie I've grown to hate) long before the tech was ever concieved, he was considered a visionary by a couple teachers at school. I agree with that, but now the douche bag part. His stories and his writing make me want to strangle animals with a certain degree of pessimism. He's sort of like a poet masquerading as a novelist. The tech is nice, but what the fuck happened to the story? Avatar, a space-age version of Dances with Wolves. Titanic? A love story in the midst of a tragedy? His only movie I liked was Aliens, but that was when Alien was a bit stale (come on, one alien? Take a nice and stab it to death, logically, someone on that ship should've came to that conclusion).

In all honesty, does anyone else think James Cameron's a bit of a douche bag? I'm semi-pro for the fact. I like his visions, but hate his writings. He's a mute with sight.

I don't actually pay attention to him. There's so much focus on actors and directors IRL, as if that makes the product different. I just don't care anymore.

As for your 'take a knife and stab it'- ACID BLOOD. Every stab will eat through your bones.

Meri B (bigducky) | 21 comments I never pay attention to who directs movies anymore. Yea, Avatar wasn't groundbreaking as far as story goes, but I still enjoyed the film well enough.

Tristan Wong (TheMonolith) | 82 comments It sort of like Battle LA or Transformers--great ride, just story wise illogical and almost spiteful in so many ways. I don't know, that's just how I feel about it.

Meri B (bigducky) | 21 comments I don't think I could really call anyone a douche bag without knowing their personality...that's kind of what the term attacks isn't it?

Tristan Wong (TheMonolith) | 82 comments Not really on my part, douche-bag isn't really an attack on a personality, least that's not how I bring it up as. I call people douches just by the way they do things. For example, I find hardcore goths douche-bags because they tend to over-due things. I get it, you hate life, get over yourself, that sort of thing.

For James Cameron, you could call him a douche if you've worked under him (i'm just pulling testimonies and rumours I've heard on him). He's a perfectionist by nature (this is from all the information I've heard on him) and with that being it, he tends to put unruley demands on a lot of people. Performance wise and set wise.

You've got to do it this way, you've got to do it that way. I call him on that, hence why I think he's a bit of a douche. That and the things he creates I feel add to the douche-bagery. Love story on a tragedy? He must've been high when he created that--that's just me, I was in it for the history, not for the story (god-awfully cheesy, especially with the shoot-out in the middle. He's the artsy Michael Bay).

So I guess you're right in a sense that I can't really call him a douche bag without knowing him. But for the way he does things, the products he makes, I'm just calling him a douche, just cause ;).

Shout out if I'm wrong, but that's just the way I feel about his character--I define actions by what they do, and how they do it. He just isn't the sort of bloke I'd have dinner with, know what I mean?

I pay attention sometimes. That Source Code movie is coming out from the director who did Moon. So, I'm pretty sure that despite all the zomg explosions in the preview, that that might possibly be -all- that there is in the movie. He seems competent enough to get across a story and make it exciting without too many special effects.

This is the most use I've seen of the word douche outside of mocking Jersey Shore or that episode of South Park with that guy who talked to spirits.
