Angie The update we have all been waiting for!

message 2: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) Yes! I unrooted my NC so I can see how the new stock firmware will run.

message 3: by Carol (new)

Carol Oh, this is great news! Funny that we don't hear this directly from B&N. It's not on their homepage yet (last I looked).

message 4: by ★Meghan★ (new)

★Meghan★ (starinheaven) | 340 comments YAY!!! That is soooooo exciting...not like I will need another reason to spend money on something :)

message 5: by Kenna (new)

Kenna (kennas)
"Update: Since this post first appeared HSN has updated its site and removed "Adobe Flash" from its product description for the Nook Color. Instead, that blurb now reads "Enhanced web browser: Enjoy a full web experience by watching videos." That could very well mean that Flash support will not be available with the upcoming update."

Arrrrg! I was looking forward to that one the most! There are vids that I cant get to play. I often wondered why youtube was a preloaded website if you cant access it properly.

message 6: by Angie (new)

Angie This is a bummer. I REALLY wanted flash on mine. I wonder why they won't put it on there.

message 8: by Angie (new)

Angie Hope this does not happen to the Nook:

message 9: by Dorie (new)

Dorie (dorieann) I think it's only a matter of time before they start embedding the ads into the ebooks themselves. It will probably coincide with the day I stop using my ereader.

I wonder how long it will take the hacks to defeat that. I am sure it won't take long.

message 11: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Umansky | 4 comments It would stink to have ads on the nook...however..the 50% off amazon gift cards which in turn can be used to buy their ebooks is like giving people 50% off ebooks in a market that is controlled by publisher pricing...I think that would be worth having the ads.

Angie The update is here today!! Soooo excited!!

Here is the app store. Angry Birds here I come!

If you don't want to wait for the automatic update you can manually update here:

message 13: by Dorie (new)

Dorie (dorieann) Yay, can't wait to get home to load it. Hope it fixes some bugs I've been experiencing trying to connect in-store.

message 14: by Chara (new)

Chara (charalee) So has anyone checked out the goodreads app yet? I was expecting quite a bit more out of it!

I wish they could find a way for us to add quotes directly from the ebooks we're reading, instead of having to type out the quote. That's really the only thing I was looking for in the app!

message 15: by Jerry (new)

Jerry (jersysman) | 53 comments I didn't even know that there was a Goodreads app. I have installed the update yet. I've been seeing that those who rooted their NCs and use them more as a tablet than an eReader, are not very pleased. To me, the NC is first and foremost a reader. All of the other stuff is just gravy.

message 16: by Barbara (new)

Barbara (kittybee) | 2 comments This update is awesome!!!!!! I love my Nook Color for the e-reading, but now its like a tablet for only a fraction of the price! YAY for Barnes and Noble!

message 17: by Cathey (new)

Cathey | 26 comments Is anybody waiting or are you all loading it yourself?
Is the Goodreads app free or do you have to buy it?

message 18: by Laura K (new)

Laura K I loaded it myself. I was excited and couldn't wait. The Goodreads app is free.

message 19: by Chara (new)

Chara (charalee) you can also take it into your local b&n and they'll load the update for you. They have a new process that gets it done in less than 10 minutes (from what I've seen)

message 20: by Dorie (new)

Dorie (dorieann) I've only downloaded two apps, the Goodreads (of course) and one game called Grisly Manor. It was $2 I think but it's a pretty cool game. Most of the freebies are apps I wouldn't use anyway. The only disappointment was that the calendar app doesn't synch with Google, so I'm not interested in using it. (Odd since the Nookcolor's software is Android, yet it syncs with Outlook.) Anyone else find any good apps worth the cost?

I loaded it yesterday myself and it maybe took 5 minutes. I love it!

What is the Grisly Manor game? What do you do in it?

message 23: by Dorie (new)

Dorie (dorieann) Tara, it's basically a click-to-search mystery game. You enter and go through a house to figure out what happened to your Grandfather, who has disappeared.

message 24: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Kay (zairaduvessa) | 1 comments I love the new update! I just wish the Goodreads app was a little more in depth. I also love the premise of the nook friends feature. Unfortunately, I don't know anyone else that has a Nook Color so it seems I won't get much use out of that. Boo.

message 25: by Angie (new)

Angie I loaded it myself. Though the friend app isn't working the best. :( I love the goodreads app actually!!

message 26: by Lonnie (new)

Lonnie I want a calendar ap for the regular nook. :(

message 27: by Shannon (new)

Shannon | 13 comments Wondering if anyone has checked out many apps yet? I have not. Hesitant to buy them since I am just not too familiar. Any good recommendations (or those to stay clear of)?

message 28: by Chara (new)

Chara (charalee) as far as games go, I've been playing "unblock me" I like it. If you want to know what an app is before you pay for it, just go to a B&N store. Ask them to download the app to their nook color and then play with it. Thats what I do to make sure I want it before I pay for it. haha.

Great tip - thanks.

Carrie (Care) (care76) I am thinking of getting the ez pdf reader app. The one on the stock NC doesn't do bookmarks, and i have some 700 page text books.

I was really hoping that the GR app was a little better. I use it to update my reading and use the browser for everything else.

I love that you can put any book on the homescreen now. I have a lot of sideloaded books, so that is good for me. I wish the cover issue would have been fixed though. :(

message 31: by Jerry (new)

Jerry (jersysman) | 53 comments @Carolyn - I've heard some good things about the ez pdf reader app.

message 32: by Lisa (last edited May 25, 2011 01:22PM) (new)

Lisa (lisaluvsbooks) | 3 comments So far as apps go, I've only gotten the (free) Fliq Notes. It's handy for typing in small notes, like book recommendations, etc., when you're out reading. I'm hoping for an alarm clock app and maybe even Words with Friends :)

message 33: by Shannon (new)

Shannon | 13 comments I've tried fliq too, and it is OK. Although I think if I had a stylus I would be faster at "typing".
