Digimon is a popular Japanese series of media and merchandise created by Akiyoshi Hongo, which is comprised of anime, manga, toys, video games, trading card games and other media. Digimon, the lifeforms the series revolves around, are monsters of various forms living in a "Digital World," a parallel universe that originated from Earth's various communication networks. Digimon is often claimed by detractors to be a knockoff of Pokémon, though they both appeared at about the same time, and have entirely different approaches to the monster concept.

Plus, Digimon are made of data. "Digimon" is short for "Digital Monsters." They are similar to Pokemon because "Pokemon" is short for "Pocket Monsters." For Pokemon, the cards came first. Then the show, then the game. I think the show came first for Digimon, but it could well be the cards that came first as well. Correct me if I'm wrong.

it is about Boys who sold newspapers in the 1800s, they are all really cute and can dance and sing as well, the music is AMAZING!!! you should watch it!

For anyone who wants to know, but Digimon's origins come from an attempt to make a boy tamagache. They later made a movie to promote the idea. Because of how popular it was, it was later turned into a full series and beyond, till this day with the 7th season in Japan.

Interesting... 'Tamagache'? That reminds me of Tamagotchi. But Tamagotchi became popular long after Digimon. Unless in Japan they were popular and in America it wasn't until more recently...

Yes, your last assumption is right. (and yes, I meant Tamagotchi) Digital pets have always been popular in Japan, well, since they were developed. It has to do with the small living space and the unavailability to resources necessary to own a real pet.

Like Fur Real pets! But those are more creepy... ^_^ It makes a lot more sense. I do remember my brother's older games of Gundam and of course there's Pokemon and Digimon came to America almost the same time in Japan. I think I'm more surprised about Tamagotchi being around since the same time as Digimon.
