Vanessa (vanessamc) | 646 comments Okay, the greatest overall Roarke attribute is his extremely alpha male personality and the unbelievable sheer sex appeal of the man.

I love how he loves Eve. The man doesn't just talk about it...he delivers. It's hard to surprise her but he does it all the time in how he shows her he GETS her. Creating that office in the style of Dallas was brilliant. Gifting her with coffee instead of "sparkles" tells me that this is a man who pays attention.

It gets me all the time. We won't even talk about their first overnight. That's a revisit I do on a regular basis.

Yes, Jonetta, I go back over that one as well, incredibly hot!!

message 4: by Karon (new)

Karon (agmommy) | 182 comments I love how Roarke takes care of Eve. He knows (usually) when she's at her breaking point. But the time or two that SHE has had to take care of him have been pretty great too. I really get a kick out of those scenes. The first time he "tranq'd" her was just hilarious!

message 5: by Karon (new)

Karon (agmommy) | 182 comments Another thing that just seems so sweet about him is how he pulls her on his lap. It's not necessarily sexual...I think it's just another way of his showing affection towards her. It's just an "awwww" moment for me every time he does that!

Karon, thanks for bringing up the sitting on the lap. It is such an intimate gesture that Eve is finally getting used to. Remember the first time? Eve mused that she had never sat on anyone's lap before. Somehow I think Roarke knows this and knows what affect it has on her.

Elizabeth (ezepeze11) | 582 comments Love Roarke!! Love the accent (even though I can't really imagine it and no I am not going to start to listen to the audiobooks so...don't recommend that). But Raorke, without a doubt, is amazing. Sadly, he pretty much ruins all guys or me.

message 8: by TinaNoir (new)

TinaNoir | 106 comments I love the fact that Roarke, who is so good at everything, couldn't grill to save his life. LOL.

message 10: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (vanessamc) | 646 comments Susan does a really good job with his voice, but some people don't like audio books for that reason and I respect that. Sometimes the reader is really bad with voices of the opposite sex. I love it when two readers are used, like in Shadowfever by Karen Marie Moning. Susan Erickson doesn't need an extra reader, though. She's the best I've ever heard for multiple voices.

I've never listened to any of the books but it appears to be unanimous praise from those that do.

message 12: by Ila (new)

Ila Yes the audio books are really good, I have to agree with Vanessa, she's one of the best narrators around and really does the characters justice.

Ah ! Roarke, he seems like the perfect man ! I love how he takes care of Eve. I think my favorite Roarke scene is in Portrait in Death (I think) when he goes to Ireland to meet his aunt and Eve goes to him later. For some reason I could picture the scene so well.

message 13: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (vanessamc) | 646 comments It makes you want to go to Ireland, doesn't it? I think it's so funny that Eve just can't understand why anyone would live in a rural setting.

message 14: by Ila (new)

Ila hahahaha i just remembered her fear of the cows !

message 15: by Stacey (new)

Stacey | 45 comments I love how Eve always seems to miss the moments she surprises Roarke. Since he does know her so well it is always great when Eve sincerely touches Roarke and i love how she never catches his surprise. I also love the time Eve is teasing Roarke about promising he would do a duet with Mavis on her new record and in the end Eve says "I Love You, Roarke" so easily it takes Roarke by complete surprise. It is an extremely tender moment (one of my favorites!)

I have that passage highlighted.

message 17: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (vanessamc) | 646 comments Why does Roarke always by her so much jewelry when she never wears it? I know he likes to buy things and the coffee was a masterstroke, but what Eve really needs is a thousand pairs of gloves and even more coats. Oh, she probably already has them too.

message 18: by Stacey (new)

Stacey | 45 comments Since he can, Roarke buys her everything she never had growing up. It is his way of trying to fill the void of her early life. (even though she doesn't really want it. It is more for him than her!)

message 19: by TinaNoir (new)

TinaNoir | 106 comments I love how Roarke knows that Peabody has a little crush on him and he indulges her sometimes. Not in a skeevy way, but in a very sweet way.

She actually wears the jewelry when she's socialized with Roarke which is why he buys it. And, he's constantly buying her gloves, coats and boots.

message 21: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (ezepeze11) | 582 comments I love how Eve sticks her hands in her pockets and she's like "Oh, gloves,". And how she will go into her closet and be like I could SWEAR that shirt wasn't there before. And remember that time she went into the lingerie store and found s model I herself??? O.O

I'd wondered how her lingerie was added to her wardrobe. I thought that shop was wonderful, along with that scene. While Eve was a little creeped out, I think she was just happy she didn't have to do the shopping. And...we got to see how a busy man like Roarke pulls it off.

message 23: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (ezepeze11) | 582 comments Haha!! That we did

message 24: by Karon (new)

Karon (agmommy) | 182 comments Something I've always wondered is....who does her laundry? Is it Summerset? LOL! What does he think of all the "torn" apparel?

message 25: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15151 comments Mod
Who cleans up the bedroom after one of their romps:)

message 26: by Karon (new)

Karon (agmommy) | 182 comments Gosh I never thought of that! They don't seem too concerned. Also...if the equipment in the house always knows where they are (and so does Summerset)....doesn't that mean Summerset can see everything they do? Ewwwww

message 27: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15151 comments Mod
You know, every time they have an interlude in the gym or the pool, I think about that system and how does Sumnerset know not to view. Double ew.

message 28: by Ila (new)

Ila Haha, this thread makes me want to start reading the In Death books again. I've taken a pretty long break from them and like every good addict seem to be jonesing for a Eve+Roarke fix now.

I started my reread of the series a while ago and am in the middle of Seduction in Death.

Good catch, Stacey. I forgot about the growing up part. It's a good thing he's got a mansion. By the way, I would love to see that mansion, that would be so cool.

She got a lot of lingerie when she got married. Leonardo made her a whole trousseau.

Stacey's right. Think about, too, what he does at Christmas, trying to create something for the two of them that neither of them had. It's touching.

message 38: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (vanessamc) | 646 comments You guys are so funny with the "ews". I think they do have droids to do things when they're not there. I know Roarke doesn't like droids, but they'd have to have that, or some kind of human help; Summerset can't do the whole thing by himself! Although I remember one time when he was polishing the silver.

I would LOVE the idea of anybody but Summerset handling the unmentionables:)

message 41: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (vanessamc) | 646 comments I think since Eve insisted on paying for the dress, she let Roarke pay for the trousseau, and the jewelry too. I think Roarke is the one who got her necklace for the wedding, the precise one Leonardo described.

That is true! Roarke did buy the necklace. I don't know how to post spoiler so I'll just reference the end of Immortal in Death just before the wedding...

To the upper right of the post box is a (some html is ok) option that shows some of the different html formats that you can do.

message 47: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (missrebecca) God... Roarke, he is by far my most favourite character (besides Eve). I haven't read the latest one cause I can't afford it, but I simply adored the whole chapter of Eve/Roarke action we got at the beginning on Indulgence.
He's just so sweet, yet strong, he's powerful and dangerous (he's gutted people!!) but he loves her so completely. I always love when he holds her after a nightmare, how he's always there to rock her and make sure she's okay. And that moment when she's like 'yeah no I'm fine, you can let go of me now' trying to be strong, but then it's him who's all 'well I'm not yet'. It's a nice vulnerability in a man who's obviously so powerful and not really used to letting people in.
OH! and I LOVE how he can't cook. I re-read that bit, when he first uses the grill, over and over, just because it's so funny. & when he swears or speaks in Irish, though sometimes it's been odd when Ms Roberts uses different forms of the same phrase than what I know lol.
*sigh* he's just perfect really....and I have my own version! though he's English...not Irish.

Hi Everyone,

I have a thread which warns people that all of these topics could have spoilers and so up until now, the warning was not really necessary. However, since we are attracting some new members who have not read the whole series, I may put up a single topic for the personality traits indicating that specifically does not include spoilers. If anyone would like to give me feedback on this, please find the thread "Discussion Suggestion" under the Admin heading and leave your thoughts. Thanks.

message 50: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (vanessamc) | 646 comments Yes, great stuff Rebecca. Yes, I love the grilling part. He didn't even consider it until the party at the Miras. And then he almost starts a fire and Eve's afraid it's going to blow up.
