Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I just realized we didn't have this as one of our genres listed.

Sci-Fi romance has always had a base of hardcore fans, but I notice it gaining in popularity lately.

One of the more popular sci-fi branches involves anything to do with space or futuristic themes. Sure, space-opera has been around forever, but I'm noticing sci-fi romance blending in more with the UF/PNR crowd recently.

Series such as The League and Sirantha Jax are popping up as recs in groups previously dedicated to were and vamp love.

Born of Night (The League, #1) by Sherrilyn Kenyon Born of Fire (The League, #2) by Sherrilyn Kenyon Born of Ice (The League, #3) by Sherrilyn Kenyon Born of Shadows (The League, #4) by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Grimspace (Sirantha Jax, #1) by Ann Aguirre Wanderlust (Sirantha Jax, #2) by Ann Aguirre Doubleblind (Sirantha Jax, #3) by Ann Aguirre Killbox (Sirantha Jax, #4) by Ann Aguirre Aftermath (Sirantha Jax, #5) by Ann Aguirre

Another offshoot of Sci-Fi that's been extremely popular as of lately is Dystopia. In all honesty, I haven't read much adult dystopia because I feel like YA balances the heaviness of dystopia while still providing a little bit of hope (and often adds romance).

Some Dystopia books I've enjoyed (first in series) :

The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1) by Suzanne Collins Wither (Chemical Garden, #1) by Lauren DeStefano Unwind (Unwind, #1) by Neal Shusterman

Has anyone else read any good sci-fi romance lately?

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I just wanted to start discussion and didn't have any plans on starting an actual list for the moment, but everyone else is welcome to talk about books they liked in this genre.

Matched does happen to be one I've read. I liked it okay, but the first half is sort of slow.

I'm sure someone will skewer me for this one, but I really enjoyed the "invasion of the body snatchers" theme of The Host. The love story between Ian and Wanda was downright adorable, if a bit creepy. The first 100 pages of this book are painfully slow and a bit confusing, but once you get past that, I think the story becomes so much fun and very imaginative. Most people either read the first few chapters and throw the book at the wall in frustration and trash the book, or they push on past that point and end up falling in love with it.

The underground cave system and medical technology differences between the humans and the souls is interesting. I was surprised that Meyer had it in her to write something with depth.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Also, I would love any recs for adult sci-fi romance. I do plan on starting Sirantha Jax, and really liked the first two books of The League, so I'd like to try some more.

I'd almost consider Burning Alive (Sentinel Wars, #1) by Shannon K. Butcher Finding the Lost (Sentinel Wars, #2) by Shannon K. Butcher Running Scared (Sentinel Wars, #3) by Shannon K. Butcher Living Nightmare (Sentinel Wars, #4) by Shannon K. Butcher as a PNR/sci-fi hybrid. They read more like an urban fantasy, but the sentinels are descendants of aliens from another planet.

Ottilie (ottilie_weber) | 439 comments Yeah I agree that the beginning was slow. I never read the Host I couldn't figure out the description.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Forgot about these as well. I've seen a few friends reading them. Haven't read them yet, but might give it a go.

Song of Scarabaeus (Scarabaeus, #1) by Sara Creasy Children of Scarabaeus (Scarabaeus, #2) by Sara Creasy

Marg (margreads) | 76 comments Another rec for The Host from me. I think it is Meyer's best book and I hope there will be another book set in this world.

Carolyn A good series that I picked up a few years ago was the Chronicles of the Necromancer. Each of the books is a few hundred pages but I really got into it and could not put it down.

The Summoner (Chronicles of the Necromancer, #1) by Gail Z. Martin The Blood King (Chronicles of the Necromancer, #2) by Gail Z. Martin Dark Haven (Chronicles of the Necromancer, #3) by Gail Z. Martin Dark Lady's Chosen (Chronicles of the Necromancer, #4) by Gail Z. Martin

Maggie the Muskoka Library Mouse (mcurry1990) Sci-Fi Romance is a genre I haven't tried yet, but Dystopian is a familiar one. I really liked "The Chemical Garden" trilogy by Lauren DeStefano, and "The Hunger Games" trilogy was good too.
