and i randomly like different songs at different times. but these i think are my core favorites :)

message 3: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid I love One Day More and The Confrontation! I also love Fantine's Arrest and Fantine's Death. Javert's Suicide and Stars. Little People. Umm... Finale. A Little Fall of Rain, Drink With Me, and lots of others.
The ones that I love the most I think are:
Javert's Suicide
Fantine's Arrest
One Day More
Empty Chairs and Empty Tables

i dont have all the songs, so i dont really know Javerts Suicide, Fantines Arrest and Little People very well. i should probably listen to them more.
ya, stars is good, and drink with me gives me shivers
the finale is also nice.
i think one day more is probably my number one though :)

message 5: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid Oh Yes! One Day More is probably the best in the whole musical. Everyone is shown at their best.

i love how the tunes are the same for some songs and it makes you realize the connection.
example:

Javerts Suicide and Valjeans Solioquy have the same tune, and some of the same words- they have both past something big in their lives and they are dealing with it. its funny how they deal with it so differently- Javert gives up and kills himself, and Valjean decides to start a new life :)

then theres how all the 'sentences', like Valjean being caught stealing from the bishops house, Fantines arrest and Javert being discovered as as spy all have the same tune too in some parts.

there are loads of other examples too...

message 8: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid I love the Soliloquy and the Suicide. It is really clever how they have so many similarities and the characters are so very different.

message 31: by Joan (new)

Joan | 1 comments I love the whole show, but my favorite song is Who Am I.

message 32: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid Ooh! That is a good one.
Really powerful. Jean Valjean shows some real goodness in that song.

message 33: by Anna (new)

Anna (SylviaGrant) Especially when Colmie is singing it...sorry I call him Colmie more than Colm or Mr. Wilkinson.

message 34: by [deleted user] (new)

I HAVE MASTER OF THE HOUSE STUCK IN MY HEAD!!!!!!!!!!!! ARGHHHHHH@!!!!!!!

message 35: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid That is annoying song to get stuck in your head.
That and Lovely Ladies. I think that those are my least favorite songs in the musical. And Dog Eats Dog. I don't like that one.

message 36: by [deleted user] (new)

I only can remember the end of Lovely Ladies....and everytime someone says Lovely, I burst into song....Hahah....and yes, its annoying....im listening to it on Youtube as we speak!!!!! Im addicted to an annoying song!!!!!!!

message 37: by Anna (new)

Anna (SylviaGrant) I am also addicted to that song!! and also Fantine's arrest only I watch the high schools doing it then I start complaining about them so much I have to return to Philip and Ruthie's.

message 38: by [deleted user] (new)

Haha....its a super annoying song...teehee.....and I sang Lovely Ladies to my mom, and she was like, "Thats what they say? Omg!!!!!! Thats horrible!!!" and I laughed.

Juli | 44 comments O lord, Lovely Ladies and Master of the House- two very iteresting (to say the least) songs

Wow. Hard to choose. I *love* every song in this inspired musical. Sheer beauty and depth, all the way through. The lyrics all sparkle and shine and paint vivid word-pictures. The underlying spirit of the play, and the themes that run all through it, are so gentle and kind that such sweetness and goodness, to this extent, are not common to authors, they just aren't. Victor Hugo was a saint. I really believe that. As for favorite song, again, how does one choose in a musical like Les Mis' ?? If I put against a wall, the song that breaks my heart the most, and is the *most* tender, is A LITTLE FALL OF RAIN. No matter who performs it, when Marius tells the dying Eponine, "You would live a hundred years, if I could show you how; I won't desert you now..." for me, that's when the floodgates REALLY open.
love to all of you.

I completely agree!

message 47: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid I love the way you described the music, Donald "Sheer beauty and depth, all the way through. The lyrics all sparkle and shine and paint vivid word-pictures." That is such a perfect way to word it!

I admit, I've always had a softness for Eponine's death, though I think the finale is what truly sends shivers down my spine. When the chorus comes in quietly with "do you hear the people sing, lost in the valley of the night..." And they just get louder? Ooh! It's truly brilliant.

message 48: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid Oh, and Javert's suicide! How could I miss that one? It's such a powerful song. The way they integrated Stars into the ending when he's throwing himself off the bridge is truly amazing.

Thank you, Way. If I could praise it more highly, I would. I've never heard lyrics like these, nor any that compare to them, in my entire life. Ever. I really believe that this play is inspired by God as is the novel. Peace, friend.

And way, I agree about the Finale. If there has ever been a more "holy" moment in a musical play, I have never heard it. I'm ready to stand and cheer once they start with, "Will you join in our crusade? Who will be strong and stand with me?..." but when they cry out, Tomorrow COME!, I'm clapping like crazy even though there is nobody around to hear me, LOL (watching the dvd). peace, friend.
