What are you blasting in your car right now?
I have heard one of her songs....I liked her....a little Amy Winehousish right?? I'm going straight to ITunes right now to look her up. ;)
Right now I love Lilly Allen and Duffy for my girl music and I ALWAYS have John Mayer, Maroon 5 and Counting Crows nearby. John Mayer doing a cover of Free Falling is my favorite.
Maroon 5 is my fave Tera......I can never get enough of them!! Counting Crows have always been good for me. Takes me back to 19-20 yrs old when life was fun and easy. I like some of John Mayer's stuff but not all of it. I don't think I've heard Lilly Allen or Duffy though....or have I and I just don't know it? Are they on constant radio play right now?At the moment I've been listening to Temple of the Dog and Stone Temple Pilots......seems I need to go back to the early 90's when music was oh so important to me. :)

The song cracks me up if you listen to the lyrics.
This is Duffy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KE2ort...
They are both Enlgish girls. I like Amy Winehouse but she's a train wreck waiting to happen.

The Dropkick Murphys. Nothing like a little Boston Irish attitude to clear the humid haze of August...
I just changed out my CD case.. here's what's in there now: Maroon 5, John Mayar (I love his Continuum CD), Prince, Trisha Yearwood, Matthew Sweet, Eminem, Bon Jovi, Frank Sinatra, a cd I burned of some AC/DC/Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath et al (dont like enough of their stuff to buy a single CD but I can fill up one CD with a combo of their songs), Tori Amos and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
I took out: Lilo and Stitch soundtrack, Dean Martin, Limp Bizkit, The Ting Tings, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes.
Never said I wasn't weird. :)
I got a few comments the first day I was on the new job about my "strange" taste in music from those who heard my radio in the parking lot before I turned the car off. lol.
You're like me Jackie......I've got quite the eclectic taste too!Tera.....LOOOVE that Lily Allen song!! I've heard it lots of times but had no idea who it was :) I've gotta get her CD I can see.....and I'm hooked on Duffy now. Thanks for those!!
Inky....I saw Dropkick Murphys one night at a club awhile back and could not get enough of them! I haven't listened to them in awhile but your reminder made me get them out and blast them yesterday. Thanks!!!
Right now I am wishing that my car radio even worked. It was one of those cd/tape/radio combos that got stuck with a tape and will not switch systems and NOTHING works!! Very disappointing. I sometimes have my XMRadio with headphones though and I listen to the UPOP which is mainly European rock.
I love Sara Bareillis, Mat Kearney, the Silversun Pickups, and I think there's another CD I've been playing a lot lately that I can't remember.BUT, in the morning I usually play classical or NPR. Unless it's Friday. :)
Sara Bareilles...another good one I enjoy. Do you also like Colbie Caillat Emily? I really like her alot! Leslie....that truly sucks. If my radio didn't work in my car I would go crazy..........not cool :(Do you enjoy listening to books Meg more than reading them?
I love Maroon 5 (both albums) and Coldplay's new album. Right now I'm listening to a mixed playlist that consists ofMadonna
Duffy
Maroon 5
Bhangra pop songs (great for dancing to)
Bob Marley
Lil Wayne
Amy Winehouse
and a bunch more miscellaneous songs from all different genres.
Music is another obsession of mine (aside from books, obviously)
Holli,It is not that I enjoy listening to them more. There are so darn many I want to read/listen to that I do both. I would choose holding the book over listening, but I have a long commute and therefore am able to listen. Dont' get me wrong, listening is a lot of fun.
Holli,I'm not a huge Colbie Caillat fan, but I haven't really given her stuff enough of a chance.
I remembered my others that are fun to blast - Brandi Carlile and Ryan Adams (for those who like a little twang).
Meg, I have a longer commute than I am used to having, but I can't listen to a book. I like to mull over the words too much, and I wouldn't be a safe driver doing that. :)
My CD player in the car hasn't worked in a couple of years, but if it did I would be BLASTING the new Foo Fighters CD, "Echoes, Silence, Patience, and Grace." That's some serious rock-out music! And it's not "make your ears bleed" rock... it's just good, solid rock music. Stuff you can sing to at the top of your lungs. Three songs are getting good airplay... they are three songs I love to run to. "Long Road to Ruin," "The Pretender," and "Let it Die."If you've never listened to the Foo Fighters, I really suggest listening to this album. You'll be converted to a fan quite quickly!
I forever LOVE the Fighters of Foo!!!
When I want to rock out I reach for Foo. Who knew scruffy could be so hot.
When I want to rock out I reach for Foo. Who knew scruffy could be so hot.
Oh man..........Foo Fighters. The first time I heard them was the Tibetan Freedom Concert in 1996 in San Francisco and I was blown away!!! Great band and yes Tera who knew scruffy could be that hot :)Give Colbie Caillat a chance if you can Emily....i really like her CD alot and its always on in the background when I'm on the computer. Well most days....Elvis is on today!! LOL
Meg....I think its cool that you listen to books as well. So does my mom on her commute and she enjoys them better that way. In fact at times I've had to endure some really bad books being trapped in her car! I can't listen to books because I'm a visual person. i have to see it or it doesn't register in my brain effectively.
I feel I have to jump on this bandwagon... I actually took my 9 year old son to see the Foo Fighters in February. It was his first concert and he loved it! I'm in a R&B and rap kick right now. Ne-Yo, Jordin Sparks, Leona Lewis. But my iPod has a ton of different genres. From country to heavy metal and rap to classic rock.
I have never been able to enjoy a book on tape (or cd or audiobook... whatever they are called now). I like to re-read paragraphs to get the full meaning out of them and to me it seems like all the words sound the same and rewinding doesn't have the same effect.
Hey Kristy!! What a cool mom you are....I think my first concert was The Jets. remember them?? Think WAAYYY back and you'll get it. lol My boyfriend is heavily into rap and R&B so I listen to it too. Its not my favorite but I'm open to it and Mariah Carey is a fave of mine. And I think Christina Aguilera may have one of the best voices EVER!!!
My boyfriend teases me about my "Ghetto side" when I get in my rap kicks. I'm a whiter than white girl from the hood! I can't help it! :)I think I am a pretty cool mom too. The poor kid fell asleep half way through the concert!!! He had been up since 7... Had a basketball game, baseball tryouts (in the rain) and then the concert. He just couldn't keep his eyes open. Good thing it wasn't a Metallica concert! They did an acoustic set and that's all it took for him!
LOL...how cute is that? Asleep at the Foo Fighters!! Poor guy....I've been to a few concerts with my mom that could have put me to sleep too :) Did he at least like what he was awake for?
Kristy my son hasn't been to a Foo Fighters concert yet, but someday... He's only three and can't deal with loud noises just yet! :-)But he can correctly identify a Foo Fighters song when it comes on the radio and will occassionaly request the Foo Fighters in "Daddy's car."
FF is playing in Milwaukee this weekend for the Harley 105th. Wish we could go!!!! -sigh- It's gonna be awesome!
Yeah it would be Sydney!! My nephew loves Kid Rock....its hilarious to see a 7 year old singing along to "Cowboy" :)
Sydney, I'm in pressed your 3 year old is IDing your music. I too have a 3 year old tornado, I mean son. I have never-ever played kids music in my car....mommy's music only! But he doesn't pay as much attention to it as I hoped he would. Then again, perhaps I need to start telling him who the artists are.Lets see....what's in my CD changer now. I have a 6-disc player and recently changed it up. But the music of late has been....
Shooter Jennings - The Wolf (he totally falls in the the who knew scruffy could be so hot catagory)
Bree Sharp - Cheap & Evil Girl
AC-DC - they are a must always have (but more for the no-kid rides)
Big & Rich - Horse of a Different Color
"Mixed Tape" - I don't have many "current" CDs so I made my hubby make me a mixed-tape of sorts of current songs. I gave him a list of course otherwise it would've been all big-hair 80's bands.
Time for me to jump in...At the moment I have Lyle Lovett in the Jeep. Not exactly blasting. If I blast it is usually Hip Hop so just like the rest of you I have eclectic taste.
I would love an audio book but have none. The boyfriend has some in his car which we listen to.
Recently I was on a Led Zep kick but that faded kind of fast.
Amy Winehouse was so great but when she started to slide onto the tabloids so badly I lost interest in her music, isn't that sad?
Duffy reminds me of her, and I like the couple of songs I've heard.
Ryan Adams is an all time fave but I blasted his last CD for so long that I got tired of it. The new Coldplay single is extremely beautiful but I haven't gotten the new album.
Can I be the first to admit I am on pins and needles waiting for the release of the new New Kids on the Block CD. I know I know but I dont care they were my first love and apparently will be my last.
Who doesn't love "Dancing Queen"? Ultimate girl dancing song....that song never fails to make me smile!I'm curious to hear the NKOTB album too Tera....when does it come out?
Maureen I agree with your Amy Winehouse decline when she started to decline. Who wants to support that trainwreck? Its too bad cause her music is raw and raunchy and i love it. Ryan Adams...Ryan Adams....i think I got a single by him as a free gift with something and I liked it. I take it the rest of the CD is hot too?
Roxy my brother and sister in law loove Shooter and actually met him and Drea di Matteo in San Diego when he played there. They went out after the concert and while standing at the bar ordering a drink up walked Shooter and Drea. My brother is always quick on the draw and made some quip to Shooter that had him rolling on the floor laughing and so they chatted for a bit. My brother and sis in law so they are both "good people"!
Shooter? I will have to look that one up. Sounds interesting.Holli, Ryan Adams is sort of...how do I say it, raw, emotional, kind of country but rock at the same time. Like a calm Springsteen.
NKOTB...gotta love them, my son said the other day about their single.."Whoever wrote this song, is a genius." I could not agree more.
Ok now I HAVE to hear the NKOTB single and look up Ryan Adams because he is not the same guy I listened to on my free single. LOLShooter Jennings (Waylon Jenning's son) is brilliant. Check him out.........
Oh yeah Maureen.....I'm really liking Ryan Adams! What would be your top 3 I-must-download-these-from-Itunes songs of his??Yeah Tera.....I'm gonna have to get the NKOTB CD.....this single is HOT
Oh, Ryan Adams, WONDERFUL!I don't know the names of the songs I like by him because I've always just stolen my husband's mix CDs. :)
I too love the new Coldplay stuff. Maureen, the CD is great! This is the first time I've like Coldplay.
NKOTB!?! Oh no! I had thought so much better of you all!! I was that one girl who just did NOT jump on the NKOTB bandwagon. [singing to self] you got the right stuff, baaabee....
Maureen - Shooter Jennings is Waylon Jennings son. I dig his sound. I really love his song Fourth of July. Don't judge his music by the lousy MIDI version of his song play on the web site. Ugg!
Holli - you bro saw Shooter in concert, met him AND chatted him up?!?! So jealous!! I think I'd be all a quiver!
Oh Shooter Jennings, I have heard that song.Love it.As for Ryan Adams, Holli, the songs I love most are:
1.His version of "Wonderwall"
2."Oh my God, whatever, etc." which is on Easy Tiger
3."Come Pick Me Up" is also a fave.
Since we are talking all music not just what is in the car. I saw Justin Timberlake a year ago with Timberland and that was a great show! It was in the round at Mohegan Sun. Terrific.
Right now I have:Rolling Stones
Toby Keith
Steve Miller Band
Fleetwood Mac
Def Leppard
Bon Jovi( I am from New Jersey--so I love him :)
Aerosmith
Rascal Flats
I also have a mix of gospel songs. I am all over the place with music :)
Quite the mix there Beth....I like it. Is it easy to make a CD of your Itunes music? I just got an Ipod in March if you can believe that and haven't played around with everything Itunes can do yet.
So get this... my husband is going to the Foo Fighters concert at Harely Fest this weekend! I'm SOOOO jealous. One of his friends won tickets on the radio, and the friend invited him to go. I'm excited for him though, because he rarely goes out to do stuff with the guys. Plus my bookclub is planning a trip to Chicago to see "Wicked" before it closes... at least his tickets are free!
Meg...I'm right there with ya on listening to books on CD. My list of books to read is so long - and my commute to work is long enough that I can get through a book in a little over a week. Any more I hate the radio - they never play enough music! I LOVE music - always have my whole life. I listen to my iPod all the time too - that's what I'll plug into my car when I don't have a new book on CD to play.
ps...Holli...i love Colbie.
And to all the NKOTB fans (Tera ;0) - I'm going to their concert in Cleveland on October 3rd! And I am really excited! I'm also excited about their new cd...I know I'm terrible, but I don't care! I will forever love them!
Love Love Love the B-52's.Holli, since my husband filled my new nano ipod, I still haven't figured out how to do it myself. I ordered the CD of MIRAH the day before not knowing he'd gotten me the nano for my B-day.
Peace!
Courtney....loading it is SUPER easy. Itunes will walk you thru it step by step if you go to the Help section in Itunes. :)

Amanda's CD had alot of songs on it in a genre I had for some reason stopped listening to but in my 20's had completely consumed me. I wondered what had happened...why I had stopped listening to it. I have seen myself during my life switch musical genres depending on what my significant other is listening to and I thought...."no more". I'm going back to ME and what I like!! Which is quite alot truthfully but mainly rock....hard rock, alternative rock, whatever but ROCK.
So what do you like to blast in the privacy of your car when its just you and the open road?? What makes you feel happy and free? :)
