Eleanor (eopython2) | 4 comments Saint-Saens is one of my favorites! I fell in love when my junior high band played "Danse Macabre" and his Horn concerto "Morceau de Concert" was my absolute favorite to play!

How about the Organ Concerto? It really moves me.

Eleanor (eopython2) | 4 comments Ah yes! The Organ Concerto is great, as is the Carnival of the Animals. "The Pianists" movement reminds me of all the Hanon piano exercises and the other scale warm-ups in band.

Eleanor (bookpossum) | 25 comments I love all five of his Piano Concerti, but No 5, "The Egyptian", is the most glorious of all for me.

Camille Saint-Saëns - Danse Macabre

Denise (drbetteridge) He was my first "discovery" when I really started listening to classical music. Everybody knows Mozart and Beethoven and the like, but Saint-Saëns was the Ah ha moment for me. I do love the Organ Concerto, and Samson and Delilah.

I had never heard his piano concerti until I came across one of his etudes based on the finale of The Egyptian! It's amazing.

along similar lines, I'm a huge fan of his first cello concerto, and of the awesome finale to this violin sonata.

I love his friendship with Faure, who is another one of my favorite composers. Though I understand they fell out during World War I because Saint-Saens was for a ban on German music while Faure felt that music transcended national boundaries... go Faure haha
