Okay all. So we all know that the economy is crap right?? But...if you are like me...you don't let that stop you from buying books!

This is the place where we confess how we pinch pennies just to buy more books that we can't possibly fit on our bookshelves anymore.

So what was your latest splurge??

So I talked about how I went to the closest Borders closing sale. While I was there I bought a couple books for %50 off.

I bought:

Cleaving by Julie Powell
The Man Who Ate Everything by Jeffrey Steingarten

I read Julie & Julia about 4 years ago and loved it. I've been curious about her sophomore book for a while but have shied away from it for various reasons. It was %50 off so why not.

Also, I really love writings about food and The Man Who Ate Everything sounded fun so I figured I would give it a try!

Last week, I introduced my sister (Tiffany) to half price books. We left the kids at home with The Hubble and we were able to walk around the store, looking at books and just being adults. It was so nice.

I was able to score this month's book pick for $10. Not too shabby. Some other books I picked up were:

The Steel Remains by Richard K Morgan
Appetite for Life: The Biography of Julia Child by Noel Riley Fitch

I also grabbed a book for my daughter called Captain Flinn and the Pirate Dinosaurs Lost Treasure. It's super cute.

A few days ago I also got a book in the mail from an old co-worker. I love getting books in the mail. She mailed me:

The Help by Kathryn Stockett

I've heard nothing but good things about that book and can't wait to read it!

Amanda (amandarichard421) | 94 comments I got an Amazon.com gift card and a Barnes & Noble gift card for my birthday last month. I scored quite a few books in the "bargain" section on B&N's website.

Rudyard Kipling's Tales of Horror & Fantasy
Drood by Dan Simmons
The Women by T.C. Boyle
Song Yet Sung by James McBride
The Dark Lantern by Gerri Brightwell
Arthur Conan Doyle: A Life in Letters
Cane River by Lalita Tademy
The Boleyn Inheritance by Philippa Gregory

I am quite pleased!

Awesome haul!! I love getting gift cards!

I loved Cane River!! I hope you really like it as well. I'm really interested in The Women so you should definitely let me know how it is after you read it. :-)

Andrea "Drea" This is a great topic! I love walking around books stores, and never walk out empty handed. Because of this I have stacks of books every where. I recently went through them and put them into categories: to-read, read, and what was I thinking. We have a local book store that you can take your old books into and they will give you 50% of what they will sell them for in store credit, and 25% in cash. Great dea! And then I am always on the Kindle/Amazon looking for the deals and emailing my mom and boyfriend my wish lists. Lol.

Now that's the kind of bookstore I'm looking for...one that will give me 50%(in-store credit) + 25% (cash). LOL!

I love your "what was I thinking" pile! Too awesome! I should separate mine out and work on actually reading the ones on my to-read shelf.

Parsa There is a small shop some twenty minutes from me, where I can get second hand books and if i return them, I can get 50% money back, so I can kind of buy a book if i give two of same price. Kind of interesting. The only problem is, I dont resale books I bought from that place as much as I buy them :D

Haha! We have a place like that down the street as well. You get credit for the books you sell back to them. However, I like to keep my books. But I do like to purchase used books when I can. And paying 1/2 price is a lot better than paying full price in my opinion!

Hi Cate! Did you know that the author of Reliable Wife has a new release? It's received rave reviews thus far.

angela (ladyday) | 228 comments Ok Ladies, I must confess that I've not purchased books in about 4months to my chagrin :(
However, I have downloaded numerous FREE titles for my Kindle :)

Carol E. (mngiraffe) I have this awful problem. Well, it's a wonderful problem. My sister owns a bookstore!!! Not only do I want to support her independent business, but I also get a "sister's discount." So it is tooo easy to shop there. Luckily, we live 150 miles apart, so I can't go there every day, or I'd be living under a bridge with LOTS of books.

I also own a Kindle, and love to buy books in a snap.. when I hear about books on public radio, for example, i just grab my Kindle and buy! I recently got an Amazon gift card and got six books:

1491: New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbus
by Charles C. Mann
Canada by Richard Ford
Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
The Orphan Masters Son by Adam Johnson
Quiet: The Power of Introverts by Susan Cain
The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey

Haha! You would have to live under a bridge made of books! I wish I had a sister like that. Well...not really. I would get in a lot of trouble. I have a Nook Tablet and I have the same problem with grabbing books at the touch of a button. I sometimes forget that button is connected to my bank account! LOL!!

The end of Gone Girl made me SOOOOO angry and I LOVED The Snow Child! I can't wait to hear what you thought of them.
