The Aussie Swap discussion
Sydney Events
Yep, just call and mention the Rachel Caine event and tell them you want to RSVP. They don't really ask for names on the night - it's just to gauge numbers but still...
The ball seems like something a certain group of people from my high school might attend to, especially if it's Cassie Clare. I'm not particularly fussed, and $40 is too much for a jobless student haha.Definitely interested in the others though. Maybe get my 'new' copy of Graceling signed. :P It would be nice to actually read one of those books to increase my excitement. I might be a bit lost with Rachel Caine though, since there are like a billion Morganiville Vampires books out. I'll see. Wait--Kylie, have you read any of the series? We could all feign confusion together. :)
Lolol I'm looking through the Sydney Writer's Festival events right now. We could see John Howard for $15/10! :P And Cassie Clare is also going to go there (21st), lol that one's free. Haha, though on the same day, so...Haven't heard of Judith Ridge either. I think she's more of a YA . . . enthusiast? Haha, wrong word, but she's not an author but does talks on writing and such.
GO READ THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS NOWNOWNOW. really, do it. :)And I was panicking about having not read the WHOLE Morganville series! Haha, I've only read the first one. (: They're not bad though!
Let's go to the free Cassie Clare event!! :D
I don't have any of the Mortal Instruments books, and I'm too in-deep with review copies to just drop everything. I could at least read Cassie's story from Zombies vs. Unicorns! XD I have CLOCKWORK ANGELS, but it's a kind of follow-up series from THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS isn't it?You guys can still def. go to the fancy ball and dance with Cassie haha. But it'd be nice to get some of her stuff signed. For someone who hasn't read any of her stuff, I actually have a fair bit...
I'm planning on reading the first, Glass Houses, before the event. That way I'll at least, hopefully, be familiar with some names. :P
Ive read all the morganville vamp series ;) and the The mortal instruments loved them all. Liked the mortal instruments better then morganville but they are differnt books of course. Im off to Melbourne in June for an author signing ;) othewise Im in cairns and nothing exciting happens here :(
Hey Cass, Clockwork Angel is a prequel so it has nothing to do with MI and for every month you don't read Mortal Instruments you owe me a soda, starting from now!
Lisa, that's called peer pressure. I'll read what I want. And think how long it takes me to read a small-ish book, let alone a whole series! Plus the series is still continuing. I'll get to it eventually.
@Cass, you need a little peer-pressure, quite frankly I'm a little horrified that you haven't read it yet, you have read The Hunger Games right? It's absolutely the best series ever! You don't know what you're missing out! :P
Sheep?Haha. Calm down Lisa. Not everyone is absolutely nuts about paranormal books. You should know that contemps are more my thing, so it shouldn't come as such a shock to you.
mmmm perhaps, I do go with the flow alot but these books are only popular because they are SO good, besides THG is a dystopian so not so much PNR. As well as that, TMI is really funny and witty, I thought you mgiht enjoy the humor!
Uh oh I still need to book too. I'll try and do it on Friday. I have to figure out what I'm doing on that day though.
Don't panic, they won't say 'no, you can't come', it's just to guesstimate numbers. They don't even ask for names on the night. Also, you guys in for Cassie Clare and Kristin Cashore's free events at the SWF?
Also, I'm looking into Supernova this year (mainly because I'm a huge scifi nerd, but there's a tonne of book stuff on too.) It isn't very expensive for a day pass and it's on a weekend...
It in July, so something to consider...
Yep yep for both for SWF. :)And yeah supanova isn't for me. I still feel like I should register. How many times have you gone to these kinds of events at Kino before?
. . . I've done like NO work today. :/
Darn it, I'd love to go an meet Rachel Caine at either Sydney or Penrith but there is no way I can make the trip to Sydney mid week :(Wish they would consider regional tours sometimes!
I got one too! But for Brisbane of course! Tt's mid-week so I dunno if I can go - going to have to ask mum, 5th May Brisbane
I would have to get up at ass crack of dawn in the morning *twitches* Whats worst is I am considering it! LOL! It's all dependent on work
Anyone here going to the Sydney Writer's Festival to see Cassandra Clare?I looked at the event on their website (apparently it's for free too which I like) and it says it's a talk with CC, but I was wondering if you guys know if it's also a signing??? Is it afterwards?
I'm from Brisbane . . . so I wanted to fly down to get her to sign my books. I prefer the SWF to the ball thing . . . not a formal ball type of girl. :) haha
Yep, I should be going. :)I do believe you can get your books signed. That's probably going to be after the talk, but yeah, I'm pretty sure it's a signing too.
I know what you mean Kylie, the breakfast is really early but I figure if you're all going then I'll try my hardest to come along. :/And I'd like to go see CC too. The ball sounds nice, but it's pretty expensive (for me), the main reason I'm not considering it. Wow Erin, you're dedicated to fly over here.
oooo how cool is that .. i really want to meet Kristen kashore ive read both read graceling and fire (awesome books).... and i checked the website . and its says its a 'Panel'do you guys think there'll be a signing? :/ .. and for Cassandra Clare ,ive heard really good things about the mortal instruments series .. ill be sure to come :))

I'll start off with Cassie Clare's 'Nephilim Ball'.
When: Saturday 21st of May 6pm - 10pm
Where: ArtHouse Hotel, 275 Pitt Street, Sydney
Cost: $40
It's formal dress (or fancy dress, either is apparently fine and there are prizes for the best dressed). Theres also dancing and you can meet CC. :)
Tickets went on sale today (the 4th) and are available from the Kinokuniya bookstore or from their website: www.kinokuniya.com).
Rachel Caine will also be coming to Sydney and she's giving a talk and signing at Kinokuniya on Wednesday May 4th. It's at 6pm and you can get books signed too. :) This one's free but you need to RSVP on 92627996 with the bookstore. :)
Kristin Cashore will be attending the Sydney Writer's Festival this year on Sunday May 22nd. She'll be at Sydney Dance Company Studio 4, Pier 4/5, Hickson Rd Walsh Bay. 11:30pm – 12:30pm. Apparently she's on a panel with 'Judith Ridge'... But I don't know who that is so..
Any joy of joys, Maria V. Snyder will be visiting Australia in August. Yay!!
If you know of any more feel free to share and let me know which ones you plan on going to so maybe us Sydney-siders can meet up! :)
