This is a lovely idea, Joy. My historical novel Conceit is available in paperback and hardcover at on-line booksellers like http://www.amazon.com and http://www.abebooks.com Conceit is about the wife and daughter of the 17th-century English poet, John Donne.* Some people have written lovely reviews of it on Goodreads, for which I am most grateful and I have a Goodreads author's page at Mary Novik. There is a synopsis, snippets from reviews, lots of cool images, and 17th-century backgrounds at http://www.marynovik.com Book clubs have had lively discussions of Conceit since it gets pretty deeply into love, intimacy, and human relationships.
I'm very happy that Conceit will be included in the Group Read polls for the August read!
Thank you,

WOOT! I see my book in the polls! In case anyone is looking, here is a description of
Under Witch MoonAdriel should have known that with a werewolf, it never stopped with just one body. She would have gone to the police after witnessing Dolores' death, but she wasn't certain the killer she saw was responsible for the other murders. Besides, the police didn't believe in werewolves, and they weren't going to believe she was a witch either so what could she tell them?
She kept her eyes and ears open while she tried to help her latest client escape the clutches of a voodoo witch, but things went from bad to worse when more bodies turned up. She was greatly relieved when she met White Feather, an undercover cop. Unfortunately, he wasn't convinced she was innocent of all wrong-doing.
It was going to take every spell she knew and a few she hadn't tried to solve the murders and stay alive.
Thanks!!!

The genre is women's fiction. Thanks!
Just noticed this discussion group and I hope my entries are not too late. Like Audry, I'm self-published author and have two books on Kindle, the first 2 of my trilogy Journey to the West. Here are the links: The Same Moon: http://www.amazon.com/Same-Moon-Journ...
Trials of Life: http://www.amazon.com/Trials-Life-Jou....
The genre is probably best described contemporary fiction, although they also have a bit of modern history, and a woman's journey from East to the West.
Thanks, Joy, for this opportunity.

Hey what a cool opportunity. I appreciate this so much. I just released a supernatural thriller in May 2011 called Reunion. Here's the link ... http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/10...
Synopsis:
Twenty years after surviving a school shooting Tanner Khan and his fellow classmates reluctantly agree to hold a reunion. Although they suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, they come back to their hometown and reunite in the defunct school building. Old flames are rekindled, fears are ignited, and their lives are about to explode in a whirlwind of memories, haunted by the spirit of David Ray, the troubled teen who killed many of the students.
Once they're inside the school, they discover that a dark entity has joined them. It has come to collect a debt long overdue and someone has to pay. Will Tanner and his classmates overcome their fears, putting the pieces of their lives back together, or will they be consumed by their worst nightmare? Find out in this suspenseful thrill ride that will keep you guessing and engaged with a lovable cast.
I am proud of the reviews I've received so far here at Goodreads. I was very nervous about releasing this book because of the subject matter, but the message was worth the risk!

Thank you VERY much for the vote of confidence Cheryl! I hope you love it!
Looks like I'm late for the party! But my paranormal/suspense novel ALEX has just been released and I'd love to add it to the list.Alex is twenty and confused. He always is. The world presses on him with its horrors and pain, with scintillating auras that pierce his eyes and drive the migraines deeper. He hears the cries of children, the screaming women. He sees the brutal images of the tortured victims. He feels out of control and his mind slips...
Severely abused as a child, he is left with horrible scars on his body and even worse scars within his mind. Even though it puts him in danger, he’s compelled to help those who call to him. He’s driven, motivated by his visions to rescue them and uncover the killer. When he can, he helps the police; yet some detectives suspect he’s the cause of the problem, not the solution. Often, Alex finds himself alone and afraid in a world he doesn’t always comprehend.
Hello. I'm not exactly a "new" author -- I've been around for awhile -- but I'm always happy to have the opportunity to talk about my books. In addition to a couple of knitting books and a cookbook/memoir I've written the books below. If you do book giveaways, I'm always happy to donate one of each ("love, murder, etc." is only available in e-format -- the rest are paperback or electronic). Each Angel Burns - A story of faith, friendship and miracles. Gabe is a middle-aged man whose daughters are grown and whose marriage seems increasingly empty. Peter is his best friend from childhood who is now a priest. After 25 years as a devout priest Peter reveals that he was once in love with Maggie, a beautiful sculptor, who left him to marry an older, wealthy man. Now Maggie is leaving her husband and has purchased an abandoned convent on a cliff in Maine which was once shrouded in mysterious rumors. Gabe, at Peter's suggestion, is helping her restore the old convent -- when the bodies of murdered young women start washing up on the beach.
The Old Mermaid's Tale - In 1960 Clair Wagner leaves home for college in a town on Lake Erie. She dreams of meeting a mariner "with the constellations of the Northern seas in his eyes". Into her life come three remarkable men -- Pio, a handsome fisherman who has dreams and longings of his own; Gary, every woman's dream-come-true but with issues of his own to work out; and Baptiste, a Breton mariner-turned-musician, who fascinates her like no one has before -- but who has secrets of his own.
My Last Romance and other passions - Eight short stories about people of all ages finding love for the first -- or the last -- time.
love murder etc. - Eight short stories -- four about love and four about murder. This collection includes the novelette, "Arthur's Story: A Love Story", about a lost boy and how he is found.
Thanks very much
I will be going Book Haven author polls twice a year. :) I will gladly enter people into the next one. :)

I'll throw my hat in the ring for next time:http://www.amazon.com/Northwoods-Deep...
Deep in the north woods, two sisters become lost; one stalked by a murderous ex-husband, the other unable to rid herself of the leeches that appear mysteriously on her skin. All are drawn to an old, dilapidated cabin. Inside lives an old man with awful urges, accompanied by a Rottweiler possessed by something…unnatural. But it’s what resides beneath the cabin that they should really be worried about.
Richard Wood had worked on many cases that had to do with the supernatural, but he had never worked on a case involving murder. Something in Waldon House was causing dishes to fly off tables and guests were being pushed down stairs by unseen hands. Window and doors opened and closed by themselves. There were six people mysteriously murdered in the house. The police investigators were convinced the case was nothing more then a who-dun-it type of mystery, but were they right, or were people being murdered by some supernatural force that roamed the halls of Waldon House? Waldon House had every appearance of being haunted, but was it? Richard Wood knew because of two attempts on his life that he would have too bring an end to this case. If not it just might be the end of him.

Hi EverybodyMy novel Conceit Conceit was chosen for the August group read. Thanks everybody who voted on the poll!
I'd like to invite you all to come over to the thread to discuss my novel: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/5...
To drum up excitement for the discussion, I'm running a contest, from now until August 15, in which I'm giving away a signed first edition of Conceit.
All you have to do is to post a message in the thread telling everybody (1) the title of your favourite historical novel, (2) the name of the author, (3) what you like about the book in 2-3 sentences.
Any kind of historical novel is ok, even books that are not traditional historicals.
Cheers,
Mary

Just found this grp and saw Mary Novik's post about Conceit and am going to join in the Aug Grp Read - it sounds really excellent - just up my line! It's a great idea to offer the grp read to your grp authors - b/c although I'm a writer (just published my first novel and it's historical fiction too
) and yet, I'm surprised I didn't know of Mary's already even though it has received so much acclaim! It's a great opportunity to get the word and work out more - thank you to JD very much. Looking forward to the reading and discussing.
For the next poll, another group member/author's novel: CATCHER, CAUGHT (Dec 2010). # 1 on Amazon.com uner Death & Dying for 6 weeks, still #35 under Values/Social Issues, about 16 year old Daniel Landon the summer he's diagnosed with leukemia and has read THE CATCHER IN THE RYE.

Disappointed in September group reads. Aren't there members' books that are not romances? Do romances, with their similarities in format, lead to good bookclub discussions? I know many readers look for entertainment in their books, but I'm 58, in remission from cancer, and time is not on my side, so what I read is more than entertainment, trying to cram a lifetime into what's left, eager to learn why and how other people live and make decisions, aiming for world peace even. If there are other readers like me in this group, please vote for an October book that will add to the exploration of what it means to be human. Thanks.
First lesson of authorship: Never never never ever write a post without including the name of your book, even if it's in your signature. Go ahead, now, tell us, please, your book title and how it might be insightful on the issue of what it means to be human.

W. Bradford SwiftHello, my name is W. Bradford Swift, a newbie to this group and loving it already. I appreciate the opportunity to tell you a little bit about my fantasy - the first book in the Zak Bates Eco Adventure series.
Zak Bates is pretty normal for a sixteen year old. Okay, he does own his own zoo, but other than that, he’s pretty average. But when he’s visited by Ra-Kit, a magic cat with a bad catnip habit on a life or death mission, he is ill prepared for the assignment she blackmails him to accept – to represent the Animal Kingdom before the United Nations’ Summit on Global Warming.
Together, Zak, Ra-Kit and Sampson, Ra-Kit’s canine traveling companion, must persuade the world governments to stop poisoning the planet or face a global rebellion of the animals that could cost millions of lives on both sides and throw the world into irreversible chaos.
Dominion Over All is the first in a series of Young Adult novels intended for animal lovers of all ages. Travel with Zak and his friends as they take on the environmental challenges that threaten our world as well as theirs.

Hello again people,Been gone a for a few months writing, writing, writing. Just finished The Punished
12-year-old Curt Regis lives the carefree life of a beggar and a thief. Homeless since the age of six, he uses his guile and street smarts, as well as a glib, smooth lying tongue to reign as king of the street rats. So when he is caught breaking into a school and is sent back into foster care for the ninth time, he is quite confident that not only will it be a short stay, he will also be gone again in a day or two with a new set of clothes on his back and his bag filled with silverware, jewelry and maybe if he is really lucky, a Play station to pawn.
He is a veritable modern day Artful Dodger, with his breezy, devil-may-care attitude. However, his luck has run out. This time he is sent to what many in the foster-care system consider the perfect home. It is a home from which no one has ever runaway. A beautiful home where not a word of complaint is ever heard, where in fact, very few words are ever spoken and where the only real sounds that disturb the stagnant air are the screams of the punished.
I just wanted to tell you that I have just published a sampler called Romance Crime Good Food: The Kathleen Valentine Sampler. It is a free ebook through Goodreads and Smashwords and will also be free from Amazon and B&N eventually. It is totally free, I'm not looking for reviews, no strings attached. It contains 4 complete short stories, 3 chapters from different novels, a couple of essays and 8 recipes. Thanks!
Kathleen
I'd like to toss my book into the mix. (For either the next vote or the one after that. I'm not in a rush.)
Sarah Metz just got to Sylvianna College. She went in search of a biology degree. She found a group of wizards on the run from their past. They remember her. She doesn't remember them. Over the next year, she'll help them fight off the creatures trying to kill them, fall back into love with the man who used to be her husband, break the heart of her best friend while doing it, and maybe, if they're very, very lucky, not remember who she used to be.
Sylvianna is a modern day fantasy with a scorching hot romance and a deeply layered plot. Angels, demons, magic, sword fights, free will, destiny, and true love all weave into a complex tale of the search for redemption.
Sylvianna is for mature audiences.
Hope that perks an interest or two. Thanks so much for the opportunity.
Hey all, I am a book haven author and I just published a children's book, Royal Prince Vince that is currently available on the Nook http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/royal... and Kindle http://www.amazon.com/Royal-Prince-Vi...
for $1.99. I am still working on the hard copies, but hope to have those available in time to ship for Christmas!!
This is a great book that warns parents of the dangers of entitlement and teaches children the joy of hard work and pride in accomplishment, all in a fun and interesting story following Royal Prince Vince!!
Hello everyone - pleasure to join the esteemed lists here today, as the e-versions of my new fantasy novel were just published today. It is currently available on the Kindle: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B006HXLRCY and Smashwords: https://www.smashwords.com/books/view..., with print editions coming in a matter of days, once processing is complete. So, like, Heidi, they'll be ready in time for the holiday season, at a cost of $2.99.The novel is called The Hollow March, a fantasy selection more in the vein of Martin than the classics like Tolkien. It's the first in a planned trilogy. More to the point, though, here's the blurb for your viewing pleasure:
"It is a time of upheaval in the Idasian Empire. As religious fervor stirs dissent among the people, and the winter winds loom, thousands gather behind their aging emperor on a march to war.
In the midst of this, young Rurik Matair blunders home with childish notions of revenge, and an unlikely band of sellswords at his back. The third son of a backwater nobleman, Rurik was destined for a life in service to the crown. But when he reached beyond his station, he was banished from his father’s house with nothing to his name. Tired and hunted, he returns after two years abroad.
Yet all is not as it appears. As Idasia’s brutal war threatens to stagnate, old rivalries rekindle. Other players shift through dark games behind the scenes, and old magicks rise against a tottering throne, stirred on by a woman with nothing left…"

This is meant as a way to support our members. I will not me placing any authors outside our group for that month's polls.
Let's hope we have quite a few who jump on this bandwagon! :) Hopefully some of you will get noticed, and receive help from your fellow members. This should help get you some reviews for your books.
This is my way of saying thank you to my members and give you a leg up. I have had a lot of you asking for help and permission to promote your books in Book Haven. I know how difficult it is for authors who are just starting out, and since we have all become friends in this group, I figure your fellow members would like to help.
