I found the Monster of Florence by Douglas Preston to be very good. I also liked "Most Evil" and "Black Dahlia Avenger" by Steve Hodel who claims his father was the Dahlia killer among others.
"The Trial of Gilles de Rais" by Georges Bataille was fascinating I thought. Kind of dry at times, but I have always been interested in de Rais and there are so few books about him.For a more conventional True Crime book, "Cannibal, the True Story Behind the Maneater of Rotenberg" is an interesting examination of the Armin Meiwes case.
