Ethics (I guess...)
1. It's just harmless fun, why should the Government interfere with people's HARMLESS hobbies? It's just a form of entertainment.
2. There's not anything wrong with the competition itself, the beauty pageants that is, it's the fact people are competitive. Which is going to happen in any competition, not just beauty pageants. SO THERE, AFFIRMATIVE.
3. It isn't purely about looks, it's also about confidence, grace, elocution, deportment, manners, sometimes singing, dancing and all sorts of things :)

And, (economic)
1. Raises money and awareness for charities
2. It helps the economy, promoting designers, potential models, etc... And is also something for a community to rally around.
