Hillary (eledri) | 61 comments If you've read Matched (Matched, #1) by Ally Condie and liked it, there is a good chance you will like Delirium. Personally I liked Delirium better. The characters were easier to relate to.

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments I thought it was ok. Like Hillary it reminded me of Matched. I listened to the audio and it was good. If you ever watched the show Everwood, one of the actresses from that narrated it. I will probably check out the next one.

Laraine (lala26) I didn't like Matched and couldn't finish it but I did like Delirium. I love the way Lauren Oliver writes descriptions but sometimes the scenes are dragged out too long. :p It was an ok book. :)

Tya | 846 comments I liked this book, ok, but I agree with Laraine. The scenes did drag out too long sometimes. The first half of the book Lena spent *so* much time being afraid and tired and going on and on and ON about how she was afraid and tired and tired of being afraid it got a little annoying.

Something else that annoyed me, Lauren Oliver makes kind of a big deal towards the beginning about how Lena's trained herself to do one thing/say one thing while doing something else/feeling something else entirely. This comes into play during lots of discussions between Lena and Hana and Lena and her Aunt during the first half of the book but towards the end when it would have been helpful...nothing. She couldn't have been thinking that she needs to open the window and go to Alex while she's waving and being giddy that he came? At the time she wasn't even rambling on and ON AND ON so I wonder if that was something that Lauren Oliver forgot was a character trait, or something that she just didn't want to use at the time but it annoyed me.

Who ratted Lena and Alex out? Was it Hana, do you think? Or since they didn't seem to be acting very carefully was it just something that happened?

The ending was brutal. I hope that in book 2instead of Lena not knowing whether or not Alex is alive, like some are speculating in other groups, and Lena falling for some other guy I hope that she knows from the beginning that he is alive (I HOPE!!). I would want a plot where Lena knows Alex is alive and with the help of her mother they set about trying to rescue him. Or for some reason the Government or whoever give Alex the cure and it works and he gets paired up and Lena tries to save him from that. Like Katniss and Peeta when he is hijacked, but instead of Alex being scared of Lena he just doesn't know her or is distanced from the feelings of love.

Either way, I hope that the next book in the series has co-narrators. Lena and Alex, Lena and Hana (I loved Hana) Lena and Gracie, or Lena doesn't have to be a narrator at all. I'd be just fine with that, seeing as she was my least favorite character of all.

Melodie (melodieco) I really liked this book, but thought Wither (The Chemical Garden, #1) by Lauren DeStefano was better. Didn't care much for MATCHED.

Tya | 846 comments I had forgotten how super whiny Lena is.

Mairead | 65 comments I hate Lena.

message 13: by Tya (new)

Tya | 846 comments I think that the format that Oliver choose to write this book in is making Lena even more unlikable. (view spoiler)

message 14: by Tya (new)

Tya | 846 comments Has anyone read book 3 yet? I've just started it and I still don't like Lena at all. But, I do feel badly for her, Alex and Julian.

message 15: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments I have it, will probably get to it next week sometime.

Carri (carrifedor) | 145 comments I loved Delirium! Broke my heart. I was sort of nervous going into the 2nd one, it started off slow and I was not crazy about the back and forth, but I did end up really liking it. I have not read the 3rd.
