Welcome to the group,Rachel!!! Hope you love it!! There are tons of nice people here! You are doing great on your challenge already!!! How did you like "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo"? I read it earlier this year, and thought it was pretty good, slow at times though, hard to get into, but ok after about page 50, anyway-welcome!!! Hope you enjoy this group, and good luck on your challenge!!!

Thanks Joy! It seems like you have a great bunch of people here and i'm looking forward to getting to know you all. I loved The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo though I agree with you about the slow start, by the end I couldn't put it down. I think Lisbeth is such an interesting character. I have the second one on my "to read" shelf and i'm looking forward to that as well.

Welcome, and great reading so far. There are definitely a couple on your list that I'd like to get to . . . someday. :)

Hi Rachel! I am new to this group too. I have yet to post anything............I have been hanging in the shadows wondering were to begin. I have to steal moments to read, but I seem to do okay getting through the stacks. I am currently reading, "The Angel's Game", by Carlos Ruiz Zafron. I like it! I just finished "The Heretics Daughter", which I liked as well. This seems to be a great group, that supports new members and offers great suggestions. I love the site too!

Hi Linda! Glad i'm not the only newbie around, we can get used to it together:) I definitely relate to stealing reading time, I will read practically anywhere. I've been meaning to read The Heretic's Daughter, glad to hear you enjoyed it.

I just loved this! I can't believe it's taken me so long to read it. Think i'm going to investigate 1984 now.

They are wonderful books. If you enjoy "1984", maybe try "Brave New World" by Adolus Huxley.

I am Andrea! I live in Australia so it's winter here, but I find I get most of my reading done at this time of year as it's nice to be snuggled up inside.

Rachel, I love to make a pot of soup and then sit and read all day while it cooks :)

I feel like doing that now, my fingers are frozen :) Making soup always reminds me of my Grandpa who is no longer with us, he always made the best. Makes the house smell wonderful too doesn't it?

49 - Tony Martin : Lolly Scramble: A Memoir of Little Consequence by Tony Martin

Tony Martin can do no wrong in my eyes and I was not disappointed with this. Absolutely loved it, and i'm now going to get A Nest of Occasionals.

I so agree Rachel, it's just pure comfort food in a pot! I'm glad it brings you sweet memories of your granpa :)

50 - The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath

Congrats on hitting 50, just 25 more to go!

How did you like The Bell Jar. That's one of those that I feel like I should read just for the sake of reading it, but have never felt compelled to do so.

I liked The Bell Jar very much. It's not the best book i've ever read, but I found myself very absorbed in the story and the characters. I read a few reviews that said it was very depressing and I agree but I feel like it's important to get some understanding of what people with depression go through. Give it a go, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

51 - A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness

The Bell Jar was interesting, it's one of the few books that I can see myself reading again at some point.

Yes, I agree Andrea. It's one of those books I think you would find a different meaning in every time you read it.
