I'm almost finished with The Amber Room and though it does not discuss the Romanovs other than the history of the room itself, it's an interesting look at post WWII Russia and its relations with Germany. Review to come!

I read it years ago. I had never heard of the Amber Room before.

I hear they're trying to restore it.

They have re-created a replica and it was unveiled on the 300th anniversary of the founding of St. Petersburg in 2003. They recovered a few missing pieces, but not the original panels making up a bulk of the room's facade.

Great visual, Misfit! Thanks for posting, I think that's the only color print of the original room in existence. And I know all these fun facts now because of such a good book!

I think the originals are at the bottom of a lake somewhere in Germany
