To Accept a Command

(Please allow me to take control of your character until the end of this post).
(Written in past tense.)

The red and dry leaves blew pasts the two of them as they walked. Their town’s streets were empty, not because there was a lack of people, but more for the reason that the time of day, was 1:14 in the morning. Their town. Their home. Their memories. Where they lived was Rington.
The fall’s night’s wind’s cool breeze blew their hair southward as the two of them headed west, to the hill where they would usually get together and just have a fun time; a place where a 13-year old and a 14-year old child could just get away from the hectic town of people that don’t notice a smile when given one. The boy and girl were almost at the farthest west part of town. The stones of the street were beginning to fade into grass terrain, and the houses around them became fewer in number.
“Zen?” Siki looked up at him from his right side, and he looked back but didn’t answer. “Why did we have to come out here so late? Why don’t you trust him?”
Zen looked back in front of him to avoid being taken aback by the girl’s childhood charm. He paused. “He doesn’t seem like he’s the kind of kid you should be around. He just moved here, and before you make friends with him you need to make sure he’s a good kid before you get involved...And for reasons of my own.” Zen said like he were much older than her when he was really only a year or so.
Siki had to step up her to keep up with Zen. “But I think he is a good kid. I can just sense it.” She protested.
Zen didn’t respond.
“Why do we need to meet him so late?” She asked.
“I wanted to see if he would keep his promise he made to you when I asked you to get him to agree coming out so late. If he does show up, then it would prove that he keeps his promises.”Zen said.
They reached the edge of town.

The boy sat at the root of the tree at the top of the hill. He was playing with his gloves on his hands to pass time by. The footsteps of oncoming people made him look up. He smiled at the two, but only got one smile in return from the girl. He stood up.
“Hi!” He said a little too loudly.
“Sh-shh!” Zen forced as the echo of the boy’s voice flew through the mountains. “You’ll wake the whole town.”
“Sorry…” The boy said sheepishly.
They stood for a few moments and didn’t say anything. Siki was the first the break the silence.
“I don’t believe that you two have met,” she said. “This is Zen, and Zen, this boy’s name is Felway.”
Felway smiled, only to get nothing in return.
Another some moments passed but Siki was determined to not let this be time wasted.
“So, why did you move here Felway?” She asked.
… The look on the boy’s face changed from exited and open, to depressed and shadowed; he sat down with his back up against the tree. “I would… I’m not supposed to talk about it.” Felway’s said.
Zen stepped forward. “Siki asked you a question and I expect you to answer it!” Zen forced.
“Zen it’s alright!”
“Fine!” Felway yelled back.
There was a break in the conversation. The echoes passed and faded. Siki went and sat on the right side of Felway and sat waiting for him to speak. Zen pressed his back against the tree, but didn’t down.
“I…” Felway started and ripped up blades of grass form the ground. He was still conflicting with himself if this was a wise decision to tell them. “My father… Sent me away.” Pause. “His friend, said that it would be best that if I weren’t there to conflict with is work. He said that it was a waste of an effort if I was only going to get in the way.” Felway waited for a response from either of them, but one never came. “I remember one night, I stayed up later than I was supposed to one night when my dad’s friend was over at our house. That was when I finally figured out the truth. ‘My son doesn’t matter to me anymore, just please help me.’ I heard my own father say. I then willingly left him after hearing that, I couldn’t even… He is supposed to love-.”
Siki noticed a tear fall on the pile of grass that sat in-between Felway’s legs.
Felway continued. “My grandmother lives here. She took me in. But she doesn’t like to talk. She has this cat that she sits with and acts as if it were more important than me. That’s because she probably does think it is more important than I am.”

“I’m so sorry.” Siki said and put her hand on his shoulders.
“No!” He said and shut his eyes. “It is me that should be sorry. I didn’t mean to share my burden with anyone. It’s my problem alone.”
Zen looked down at him; even Zen felt a hint of sympathy for him.
“No, it was us who forced you to tell us.” Siki tried to cheer him up.
Felway and Siki sat in the grass and Zen stood. Without speaking anymore, they waited for Felway to get back into an open mood.

When the moment came Zen was actually the first one to speak, “So your father actually said that?” He paused. “Was he always like that? Did he always think suck little of you?”
Felway closed his eyes as if trying to remember his whole life. “N-no… He actually-. Before my mom got sick, and before his friend started seeing him. The three of us would have good times together. We would play games and stay up late talking about the things we would do together. But one day my dad’s friend showed up at the door, and the same day, my mom became sick. My father spent more time with his friend then he did with us. I don’t know what happened. I guess my dad just realized how much he was missing out on with being stuck with my mom and me. It’s probably because what he said was right, that I don’t matter, at all.”
“That’s not true!” Siki almost yelled. She pushed her hands on his arm so that he would look at her in the eyes. “You do matter. It must be that guy that is your dad’s friend. He must be doing something to your dad to make him want to leave!”
Zen crouched down and put his hand on Felway’s shoulder. “Siki’s right. This isn’t your fault. There must be something going on with your dad.” He said.
Felway looked Zen in the eye. The tension that was between them before was gone and now there was a genuine look of trust in Zen.
Felway looked back to the ground. “Thanks, but, none of it matters anymore. My mom is still sick and I already made my mind up to stay here. It doesn’t matter anymore! I’m here and there’s nothing I can do.” He said more assuring himself that what happened was what it was.

The sat there, waiting for the other to break the silence.
Zen was the one to do so. “Maybe there is.” He said with enthusiasm and stood up.
“What?” Felway asked.
Zen looked back at him. “Maybe there is something that you can do; something we could all do.”
“What would that be, Zen?” Siki asked.
Zen looked down at her with a smile. “We could take him back to where he lives and try and talk to his dad for him. Try and see if there is a way for his dad to take back what he said! There must be a reason!”
Felway wanted to find out, but he didn’t want to put Zen and Siki in trouble. They couldn’t go, Felway thought. He didn’t want to have anyone else involved.

(I will leave the story off here. Together we will see what we can do. Make sure to add plot twists, intense action, but be careful to have it not conflict with what was already written in ‘To Disobey a Command’. Please continue on with what I am trying to get at. If there are any questions or comments please ask/say in the discussion thread.

DA- You are going to have to work your character in the story like you did last time. Sorry that I couldn’t put her in this one. It just wouldn’t fit. )

(S) Siki nodded, looking at Zen's light up face in the moon light. "Yes! No father could turn out his son like that! Without reason, i mean! We have to go!"

Cassy stumbled her way up the hill, she was tired and rubbed her eyes. She yawned. "Take him back.... have to go!" she heard. She came into sight.
"If you go anywhere i'm telling mom!" she said, crossingher arms, holding her teddy bear.

(Lol cute Cassy)

"Um...?" Felway started and brushed away the tears that were left in his eyes and put on a fake smile for the little girl. "Who do we have here?" He asked.

Kat (sugaraddict) | 688 comments Zen chuckled and lifted the little girl, and looked at her with a fake pout. "Now Cassy, you know that wouldn't be very nice." He told her with an obnoxious upset posture.

(S) Siki's glared at Cassy. "Go home. You don't even know what we're talking about."
"I do too! You're going somewhere with the new kid!" She replied, pointing a finger at Felway. "I'm tell mom!"
"Be quiet Cassy! Your going to wake the whole village!" Siki hissed. Cassy yawned again, and sat down by Felway.
"I want to come too." She said, pouting.
"Uh huh. No way." Siki said, still glaring at her. "Go home, please Cassy."
"I'll scream." Cassy threatened. Siki gave Zen a pleading look.

(S) Cassy thought about this, then yawned again, and leaned against the tree. "No, i want to go with you." She said, sleepily. Siki held back the urge to swear and kick Cassy's butt back home.

Kat (sugaraddict) | 688 comments "Please Cassy? I bet we can go berry gathering in the morning." Zen pleaded, not wanting to get tough on the little girl he adored.

Felway watched silently, thinking to himself but not voicing his thoughts.

(i'm guessing that she is asking felway?)

Felway took his eyes off the sleeping girl. "Oh, um, yes." He said fastly. "My name is Felway," he rubbed his hand on the back of his hair. "And i, uh, i live... It's about 100 miles or so south, and then 200 or so miles East of here. My guess would be that it would take a week to walk there. But really guys, i don't want to go back. I'm not wanted there and i would rather just stay here and live with you guys." He said half lying have not.

"It won't be just a week. It would take a week just to get there. Then we'd have to find my dad, and then it would be a week back. He sighed. "I don't expect you guys to do anything. Kia giggled as she skipped into the forge. "Angie asked me to give this to you, Brom," she grinned, handing him a large flower. "I think she's sweet on you, brother." Brom took the flower with an embarressed smile and tried to brush it of, turning away to hide his blush. "Angie is sweet...though a little young for me." Kia laughed and jumped up on the counter as she watched him work on a horseshoe. "She's a year younger than you at the most. Admit it, Brom. You like her." Brom just laughed and waved his arm. "You better get home before father. He's working on that trinket for that shadowy fellow and you're the only one that can calm him when he's stressed." Kia nodded and kissed her brother on the cheek before she skipped out of the forge. She smiled at the sunshine and ran happily through the tall grass.

(S) ((idk now...?))

Siki snorted, then shook her head. "A month away from here? Your kidding right?" Just when Felway was about to appologize for even saying anything, she continued. "That's just what we need. To get out of here, and see things. Maybe even fight..." she said, her eyes looking at the stars, clear and dreaming at the same time.

Felway looked at her in shock. He stood up and tried to make eye contact with her, but she didn't meet him. Siki stood up as well but continued to look away.
"What do you mean, fight?" Felway asked her and grabbed her arm. "Fight who?"

Kia picked some wild flowers as she headed home. Her mother was still out running errands in the village so she began to cook dinner for her family. By the time her father made it home, she had started some potatos boiling and was peeling carrots and parsnips.

Kia smiled at her father, about to ask how his day was when she saw the worried expression on his face. "What is it?" she asked, dropping the vegetables on the table and coming over to him as he sat wearily on a chair. "It's this client," her father finally sighed, rubbing his eyes. "The objects he wants me to make are so...peculiar. I can't even tell what they are. It's a strange business deal, Kia, and I'm beginning to regret it."

Trying to cheer up her father, Kia lifted her hand as a carrot rose from the table and caught it. "I'm getting better," she said softly, changing the subject. Her father smiled slightly. "Determined to be a mage like your pa, then?" Kia smiled brightly and hugged him fiercely. "Just like you, pa."

((I'm changing Zen's age back to what it was originally if that is okay. It will give kat a chance to do some serious plot twists))

Felway looked at Zen. He was 19 [?] years old and seemed much wiser than Felway or Siki. He was like Siki's guardian. Felway felt a little jealousy because he had only really had one real friend. ((Please forgive me if this is lame.)) Her name was Kia. She was from his hometown, and then he had to leave her with out even saying goodbye. The only reason that Felway was even considering going back was because if his friend that he left there. Felway shook his feelings and looked back to answer Zen.
"Are you guys positive that it won't be any trouble for you?" He asked.
Zen shook his head a little. "We can get by it."
Siki smiled.
"Thank you both very much. I will see you both tomorrow noon." Felway said and started to walk away. Down the hill.

Felway reached the door to his house and twisted the knob, it was just as left it. The house was dead silent. He made his way up the stairs to his room.
He got under the covers and closed his eyes. He didn't even notice the words. 'League of Darkness' written on the wall in front of him.

message 38: by [deleted user] (new)

((Sweeeeeeet! League of Darknessssss. My goodness I like this story. These characters are a lot of fun to play.))

After having dinner with her family and teasing Brom about his crush, Kia went outside for a walk. Walking leisurely through the woods, she hiked up to a clearing. It was pretty high and overlooked the village, giving a great view of the stars above. Kia smiled and layed back on the soft grass, looking up at the stars as they began to peek out in the night sky. She sighed, wondering where Felway had gone to. He was one of the only young people in the village that was near her age and they usually came to this spot to talk and hang out. She was worried about him, wondering why he hadn't said goodbye.

(S) ((LOL!!! YESSS!!!))

Siki thanked Zen and carried Cassy up the stairs. Her mother came out just as the reached the top. "Siki Sosaiya Myŏng!" Her mother growled. "Where in sam's hill have you been!?" She was quiet, because Cassy was sleeping. Siki flinched and Cassy woke, up, looked at her mother, and went to bed. Slowly Siki started explaining, carefully.

message 40: by [deleted user] (last edited May 12, 2011 10:43AM) (new)

Staring up at the stars, Kia pondered the world around her. Everything in her life was almost perfect--her family was loving and prospering, she had a good life ahead of her as a mage, everything just seemed right. She just hoped that Felway was alright. It worried her that he had taken off without telling her.

A rustling to her right caught her attention. Kia leaned up on her side as she tried to peer through the darkness to see what was there. She frowned, a spike of panic rising in her chest. These woods were known to have wolves and other fearsome creatures, though none had been spotted recently. Carefully, she got to her feet and started to back away slowly, only stopping when she heard a low chuckle.

"Do not go, young one," said an amused deep baritone voice. Kia shivered as the man materialized from the shadows. He was tall and lithe, strong muscles emulating under his dark chocolate skin. He wore the simple clothes of a farmer or sheepherder, though a glittering ring on his left ring finger suggested he was otherwise. He pulled the hood down from his traveling cloak and regarded her with glittering catlike green eyes. "You are very powerful for one so young. Have you any training?"

Kia frowned, backing slowly away from him. She was used to seeing strangers in town but didn't feel safe with one in the middle of the woods with no one nearby. "What do you mean by training?" she stalled as she made a plan to run.

The man chuckled and suddenly appeared behind her. She squeeked and pulled back from him. "Training in magic, of course," he said with a slight smile. He took a step towards her, starting to walk around her in a circle as if he was appraising her worth. Kia stood there stunned, wondering what he knew of her. "Only what my father has taught me," she said softly. "I want to be a mage someday, like him."

"Yes, you do have potential," he said thoughtfully, almost to himself. "Not many have the potential. Especially for dark magic. But you--" he was cut off by Kia's strangled laugh. "Dark magic? Are you mad? Dark mages are worse than criminals! They are unnatural and inhuman. Dark magic is evil and forbidden." Kia glared at the man, wondering what he was playing at. "I could never use dark magic." The answering smile at her words made her shiver. "Dark magic is a natural branch of magic," the man said softly. "When it is used correctly and in it's uncorrupted form, it is just the same as the magic any normal mage would use. When it is controlled, it is more powerful and more effective and causes no harm. Not many have the potential to use this gift. But you, my dear girl, have this gift."

Kia shook her head and backed away from him. He followed her with his glittering eyes, but made no move towards her. "I do not," she whispered fearfully. "I do not!" She turned and fled down the hill as fast as she could, hoping he wouldn't follow.

The man stood in the clearing and watched her go. He smiled slightly at the soft sound of feathers and lifted his arm to the sky. A small bird dropped to his hand and nuzzled his fingers lovingly. "We have found her, Aakesh," the man murmered softly. "We have found her."

(S) ((OMG!! Kia!!!))

Siki woke up early the next morning, earlier then she normaly did. She needed to get out before her mom found out the real plan. She got away well enough last night when she told her mom that she was with Zen, and they wanted to meet the new kid, who was coming at night. He just came later then they thought.

She quietly started packing her small sack. She put in a light change of clothes. She slipped her feet into her soft boots and lastly strapped her fathers dagger to her waist. She only wished they had more weapons. She kissed Cassy's forhead and tied on her cloke, that was supoosed to be only worn when her mom was doing magic.

She slipped down the stairs only to be met by her dad at the bottom. She looked down, thinking: I will not cry. But the words that she heard surprised her. "Siki, be careful and quick. Ill take care of Oma, don't worry." He bent down in the strong gentle passion he had, and hugged her quickly, shoving a ring into her finger. "Please be careful." he said, smiling, and quietly opened the door for her. She smiled at him and slipped out, running to the place they met last night. The tree on the hill.

((Those were awesome you guys!!!))
((I think it's time for a plot twist here))

Felway got up early enough to ensure to himself that it was safe to meander about the house and still has his old grandmother [?] to be awake. But just to make sure that she wasn't awake, he went to look in her room to see her.

The door was, for the most part, closed with the exception of a small crack. Felway was about to look through the crack and see that there was a lump on the bed, that had a red stain in the middle of it...

Felway ran into the room yelling, "Grandmother! TIMIA!! Wake up!?"

In his arms, her head laid back facing the sky. All the color was drained from her face, which made the woman look no older than 40, when in reality, the woman was 83. He couldn't believe that this had happened to her. This was no accident. She was murdered. Felway wiped away a tear and moved his head to get a closer look at the place where she was stabbed. A sudden rush of fear flushed over him as he realized that someone could the same thing to him.

With an unknown force from behind. Felway was thrown up against a wall. He was spun around and a blade of a knife was pressed against his throat. "Do not struggle." The man said.
For some reason, the man's voice calmed Felway, and he didn't struggle anymore.
"What do you want from me?" Felway stammered.
The man was wearing all black, and had a black hood covering his face. The sun rise was still on the horizon so the room that they were in was not completely lit; Felway couldn't see the man's face.

The man nodded for a second. "You are the one. The son..." The man took his knife and raised the blade in front of Felway's face. The symbol on the blade was so familiar to Felway that he could draw it to scale.
"That symbol, of a sword striking a crow... That's my fath-"
"This symbol does not only belong to your father." The man said.

Felway looked one last time at the symbol. It seemed to familiar. His father would have knives and armor and swords with that symbol on it. Felway had never known what it stood for, and whenever Felway asked what the symbol meant, his father would just wave him off.
"It is in your blood to be one of us. And one day, you will see. But for now. We will give you the option of coming with me now, and unravel your destiny." The man said putting the knife away, showing Felway that this man could almost be trusted as a friend, and not an enemy.
"I- Uh." Felway said.
"You are obviously unready. Just remember. No matter where you are, or who you are with, the League of Darkness with wait for you and keep the promise of the legacy going. You will be one of us. All in good time."
The man took out the knife and gave it to Felway. Once Felway looked back up to ask the man why he gave it to him, the man was gone.

The knife was tightly secured in his belt. Felway walked up the hill. He saw Siki there, but Zen wasn't. He decided to keep the thing that he encountered this morning a secret. He didn't want the attention, and with his Grandmother gone, he would be taken in as an orphan. He stoke to her before she could to him.

"Where is Zen?"

((Thanks! Your post is awesome!!!!))

Kia ran down the hill, picking up speed. The stranger himself didn't frighten her, which she found strange. She wasn't really good at fighting and she didn't think she could defend herself against a man bigger than her. Strangely, it was his words that scared her. The way he was so sure that she had potential to have--no. She would not allow herself to think of it.

Finally seeing her home in view she ran to it, pracically collapsing at the back wall. Gasping, she braced her back against the wall as she tried to push the thoughts of dark magic from her mind. Pressing the heel of her palm to her forehead, she shook her head, trying not to get emotional.

It couldn't be true. She wouldn't let herself fall to dark magic.

((I think he meant "spoke"))

Kia blinked her eyes against the early sun. She groaned and rolled over to her stomach, burying her head under the blankets. The events of last night tumbled through her mind and she shuddered, wishing she could just forget it. After she had pulled herself together she had gone to bed, not saying a word about the stranger or his suggestion to her family. She didn't want them to know, almost ashamed by what she could become.

She growled and forced herself to get out of bed. She could not be a dark mage. She was like her father, a normal mage with normal magic. There wasn't any reason to worry. She dressed in a simple tunic and skirt and skipped down to eat breakfast with her family.

Felway was shaken but wouldn't tell her the truth, it just didn't seem like something they needed to know. A rush of guilt ran over Felway as well, for the reason that he didn't real much sorrow for his grandmother dying. She was never really nice to him, but that is not an excuse to no feel sympathy. He resented himself for doing that.

"I uh-... It's nothing... I'm just thinking about the things that we should take along." He paused. "Where would Zen normally be at this time? Does he have a job?" Felway said changing the subject.

Zen raced up the hill, pulse raving and breath quickened. There were bags under his eyes and he looked positively frightened but at the same time enraged...

He had decided to take a stroll at half past dawn, padding down by the stream. When a mysterious man approached him. He was used to visitors, so he didn't think anything of it. He dealed business with them sometimes, physical labor and the occasional small stolen item. It was never anything that had really weighed on his concious much. He always made sure they didn't have any terrible intentions.

But as the hooded figure got closer, his senses were set on edge. Lucy, the dog, growled and her hair stood up on end. Zen peered at the man, and suddenly he was entranced. All his mind could focus on were two red rubies in the shape of eyes staring at him. They words they spoke commanded him deliberetly.
"You are the one who will ruin the plans. You must be destroyed." Zen had nodded obeyingly, not processing the message, just eager to commit and succeed with his directions.

"Tie the heaviest rock in this vicenity to your ankle, and jump in the deepest water you can find."

The magic he was seduced by was heavy, but this made his brow furrow. But at the first sign of hesitation the other mage sended a heavy wave of magic again. Zen began to set about his task. Though Lucy had other ideas. She bit Zen, hard. He flinched though other than that payed no attention. She rammed into him, and he stood there confused for a moment. The mage sent the dog flying, and this made Zen's senses emerge from their coma. Still in a slight haze, he turned to the man.

"What do you want?" He asked clearly, then a wave of pain shot through his head. Crippling him to the ground, the man stood over him. His voice boomed darkly. "If you won't do it then I will!"

But Zen wouldn't go down with out a fight. Summoning all his strength he fought back, and managed to use a cloaking spell to escape.

So the spell is fading, he has various injuries and is racing up the hill. He has lost the frustrated oponent but is worried about what awaits him.

((lol, a revolution?))

Kia kissed each of her family members on the cheek as she wished them good morning. She took a plate and began to eat, listening to her father and brother exchange ideas about magical artifacts. Though Brom did not have the gift for magic like Kia, he had lots of ideas how to incorporate it into talismins and other items. She smiled, enjoying the moment with her family.

((lol kat, that was really good!))

"Zen!" Felway and Siki both said the same time. They both ran to him, and helped him up the hill. They set him by the tree and leaned him against it letting him look toward the sky, but his eyes were closed. He breathed heavy.

"What happened, Zen!? Is there something wrong?" Felway practically yelled at him in fear of a second event of possible murder.

"The world possesses such mages.." He explained vaguely, closing his eyes for moments at a time. "That are involved in some dirty business." Zen's eyes made contact with Felways. "And they will stop at nothing to get what they want." He finished, wiping some blood out from under his eye. He wasn't sure how he got a scrape there, probably fell into rocks or something.
