Erin The Bloody Jack series:
Bloody Jack Being an Account of the Curious Adventures of Mary "Jacky" Faber, Ship's Boy (Bloody Jack, #1) by L.A. Meyer Curse of the Blue Tattoo Being an Account of the Misadventures of Jacky Faber, Midshipman and Fine Lady (Bloody Jack, #2) by L.A. Meyer Under the Jolly Roger Being an Account of the Further Nautical Adventures of Jacky Faber (Bloody Jack, #3) by L.A. Meyer In the Belly of the Bloodhound Being an Account of a Particularly Peculiar Adventure in the Life of Jacky Faber (Bloody Jack, #4) by L.A. Meyer Mississippi Jack Being an Account of the Further Waterborne Adventures of Jacky Faber, Midshipman, Fine Lady, and Lily of the West (Bloody Jack, #5) by L.A. Meyer My Bonny Light Horseman Being an Account of the Further Adventures of Jacky Faber, in Love and War (Bloody Jack, #6) by L.A. Meyer Rapture of the Deep Being an Account of the Further Adventures of Jacky Faber, Soldier, Sailor, Mermaid, Spy (Bloody Jack, #7) by L.A. Meyer The Wake of the Lorelei Lee Being an Account of the Adventures of Jacky Faber, on her Way to Botany Bay (Bloody Jack, #8) by L.A. Meyer

I love this series and it is definitely not well known.

I agree with you 100%! Jackie is such a funny and strong character but I wish she was a pirate in another book besides Under The Jolly Roger.

Whenever I talk about this series no one seems to know what I'm talking about:
The Naming (The Books of Pellinor, #1) by Alison Croggon The Riddle (The Books of Pellinor, #2) by Alison Croggon The Crow (The Books of Pellinor, #3) by Alison Croggon The Singing (The Books of Pellinor, #4) by Alison Croggon
In truth I could never read beyond the Crow because I didn't like the brother aspect, but the Riddle was one of the most beautifully written books I've ever read.

Graceling by Kristin Cashore Fire by Kristin Cashore Bitterblue (The Seven Kingdoms Triology, #3) by Kristin Cashore

This series has been neglected!!! But it's sooo good!!!!

message 5: by Candice (new)

Candice (thecrj) @Tori Totally with you on Kristin Cashore's series. After falling in love with Graceling and Fire, I can't wait for Bitterblue. More people definitely need to pick these up.

message 6: by Caryn (new)

Caryn I loved Graceling! I haven't gotten around to reading Fire yet, though.

Wildwood Dancing Wildwood Dancing (Wildwood, #1) by Juliet Marillier . Has anyone else read this one? It left me at a loss for words after the last page. It was SOOOOO good!

message 8: by Caryn (new)

Caryn i LOVED Wildwood Dancing!! Especially Gogu :)

I really want to read Entwined...because it seems like a similar premise!

message 9: by Patti, The Reader (new)

Patti | 327 comments Mod
They do seem really similar! Haha Gogu was my favorite too!

Got another one: The Midnighters series. I don't know anyone else who has read them. Did anyone read them on here?

Now there's a fantasy! It's one of my olden favs! Isn't Bitterblue supposed to come out this year????

message 11: by Kathryn (last edited Jul 13, 2011 05:50PM) (new)

Kathryn Mueller | 3 comments The first book in the Beyonders series just came out this spring -- by Brandon Mull, the author of Fablehaven. I read it, and it's amazing. I'm so excited for the rest to come!

But a series that I often don't hear many people talking about (that happens to be one of my very favorites) is the Betsy-Tacy series by Maud Hart Lovelace. There are 4 books when Betsy is a child, and then 4 in high school and then 2 after that. I've probably read them over 20 times! They're so good for young girls....and grown ones too! I just reread them this summer, and I still love them! Heaven to Betsy / Betsy in Spite of Herself
Betsy Was a Junior / Betsy and Joe
Betsy and the Great World / Betsy's Wedding

The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart.

The Enid Blyton books.

The Penderwicks by Jeanne Birdsall.

Ten, Eleven, Twelve, Thirteen, and Thirteen Plus One by Lauren Myracle.

City of the Beast, Kingdom of the Golden Dragon, Forest of the Pygmies by Isabel Allende

those are all really good choices. You can only find the Enid Blyton books in england, though.

message 13: by Amanda (new)

Amanda The Immortals Series By Alyson Noel

The Wolves of Mercy Falls Series By Maggie Steivwater
(i dont think i spelled her last name right)

The Forest of Hands and Teeth series By Carrie Ryan
( is that what the series is called?)

Perfect Chemistry Books By Simone Elkeles

message 14: by Stephie (new)

Stephie (princesspurple86) I am reading The Immortal Series by Alyson Noel right now Amanda. I LOVE the series even though I have heard some harsh things in reviews about them.

The Midnighters series is one of my favorites! And you're right, too few people know about it. And everyone loves the Hunger Games and the new Delirium, which is great. But Uglies by Scott Westerfeld is still my FAVORITE trilogy ever (because, let's be honest, the fourth one should have never been written).

message 16: by Patti, The Reader (new)

Patti | 327 comments Mod
Yes! Finally someone who agrees. Extras felt so disconnected from the rest. It was almost like someone other than Westerfeld was writing them, in my opinion.

The books of Bayern are great as well:
The Goose Girl (The Books of Bayern, #1) by Shannon Hale Enna Burning (The Books of Bayern, #2) by Shannon Hale River Secrets (The Books of Bayern, #3) by Shannon Hale Forest Born (The Books of Bayern, #4) by Shannon Hale

Cassidy, the books of pellinor rank up there for me too. I've never quite read a series like them, and I don't think I ever will.

They were so unique in the way they were written, that's one of the reasons i loved it so much

Another Underrated:
Twilight (Twilight, #1) by Stephenie Meyer New Moon (Twilight, #2) by Stephenie Meyer Eclipse (Twilight, #3) by Stephenie Meyer Breaking Dawn (Twilight, #4) by Stephenie Meyer

Sigh.... Because of the movies everyone's shooting them down. Just because they don't like the characters, people flat out say they hate the books. I mean really? Are you kidding me? The books were actually really good, even opening up the vampire and werewolf world to us. My opinion? If everyone hates the books so much then don't read them, don't even talk badly bout them in front of people who haven't read them. It's that person's choice whether to read them or not.
I hate those hateful words.
Words that do not even know.

....Or somewhere along those lines. =^)

Patti | 327 comments Mod
Woah. Did you just say Twilight (Twilight, #1) by Stephenie Meyer ? That's an overrated series. Almost everyone I know has read them. And I don't even mind the things said about them. It's all opinions.

message 24: by Anna (new)

Anna | 3 comments Hardly anyone has heard of these, but I enjoyed them:

Vampires Rule (The Rule #1) by K.C. Blake
Werewolves Rule by K.C. Blake

I think this series is really good.

message 25: by Erin (new)

Erin Twilight is definitely overrated. I agree, however, that the Host is completely underrated. A couple of my friends won't even read it because of who wrote it even though I assure them that it is MUCH better than Twilight.

message 26: by Julia (new)

Julia (yumai) Twilight is only overrated because so many people are crazy and rave about it, I think half of that is due to the movies which I think are awful. I read twilight when it first came out and I liked it a lot. I didn't go crazy over it but I did enjoy it. If only people weren't so crazy about I think a lot more people could enjoy it.

message 27: by Danielle (new)

Danielle Freeman | 2 comments As I was looking through the lists of series I noticed that all of them were too expensive personally for me to afford. That could be a reason the are underrated.

Patricia (venio) | 6 comments I doubt that's the right order, but these are really underrated and I loved them. It took a few for me to get into the first book, but I really enjoyed it. There are christian tones to the book, which are obvious when you know it's a christian author, but that didnt bother me at all and Im atheist. I wish she'd get more recognition for this series.

DragonSpell (DragonKeeper Chronicles, #1) by Donita K. Paul DragonQuest (DragonKeeper Chronicles, #2) by Donita K. Paul DragonKnight (DragonKeeper Chronicles, #3) by Donita K. I was just as happy with Cybele's Secret as I was with Wildwood Dancing. I recommend that you read it since you liked the first book.

message 42: by Erin (new)

Erin Sunshine (Erinsunshine) | 1 comments I have read two favorite first books of two different series and I love them both. So I want to recommend: Shiver (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #1) by Maggie Stiefvater and Dreaming Dangerously by Kathleen Harsch

message 43: by Maureen (new)

Maureen (hanora1127) | 2 comments I know I'm a bit late on the topic but here is a 2 part series that I believe has been over looked and under rated: If I Stay & Where She Went by Gayle Foreman. It's not a paranormal series, but it is quite good. The 1st book was good, but the 2nd was great (IMO). Really good story!

message 44: by Brenna (new)

Brenna (everafteresther) I still need to read Graceling! I keep hearing SUCH good things about it and it sounds perfect for me :)

I think this one's a bit more popular, but I'm always surprised by how many people haven't read Ally Carter's Gallagher Girls series which is just fantastic!

message 45: by Marnie (new)

Marnie (Enchanted Bibliophile) (enchantedbibliophile) I really loved the Trudi Canavan Black Magician Trilogy The Magicians' Guild The High Lord The Novice The Magician's Apprentice

And yes! Cassandra Clare books are definitely worth reading.
I think the Drake Chronicles by Alyxandra Harvey are underrated.
