OMG-I love this one too! I think I read it when I was 10 or 11. MAJOR horse phase at that time. Looking forward to a re read!
I received
when I was 10 or 11 as a gift but sadly never read it. I didn't know why...I loved horses then and still do but I just wasn't a reader when I was younger. Two summers ago my family and I actually went to Chincoteague to see the ponies. It was exciting to see the real ponies that were made so famous from the one featured in this child's classic; I figured it was time to actually read the crazy book and maybe it will inspire someone else to make the trip to the coast of Virginia to see them too.

I LOVED this book when I was younger! I was a huge horse fanatic and read almost all of Marguerite Henry's books. Can't wait to reread this!
Did anyone else have the Misty Breyer horse? She was one of my favorites, until I broke her leg off. My daughters now play with her, broken leg and all!
Ditto Kerri! I did not own Misty-but had many Breyer horses. And, like Lisa-my horses were played with!
Picked this from the library and started reading it already. I just could not wait! Oh what difference a few decades makes on how you perceive a book! Can't wait to discuss this one!
I just started Scarlett P and Count of MC, so I thought I would dive in on this one and finish it quickly. Although I read it as a kid, I have to say I really remembered nothing about the story!I admired Paul and Maureen and their old-fashioned values and their desire to work earn money so that they could buy Phantom and Misty! Kids today need to take a lesson from them-my own included!
I love the part when Paul falls asleep during the storm and Misty curls up with him...I enjoy the descriptions of the simple, wholesome food, and of course, I love the ending!
I must agree with you Andrea, the work ethic in the kids is wonderful! I was impressed with their get up and go!
I like how Marguerite Henry opted to use the more exciting theory about how the ponies came to be on Assateague island. In case you are wondering what the other theory is I am including a link for you. http://www.chincoteague.com/ponies.ht...
Have any of you ever been to the Pony Penning?

Just finished Misty on our drive to Prince Edward Island. It was so good...loved it, and I can't figure out why I didn't read it before. Probably because the first chapter didn't seem as interesting to a young girl who just wanted to read about horses and not some ship and a storm. Now I want to read all the other books that go along with it.
I'm glad that you enjoyed it Kerri! I picked up Sea Star and Stormy, but have not gotten to them yet.
This was one of my favourite books when I was younger. I loved stories about horses, and the illustrations by Wesley Dennis were amazing.
Chincoteague has had pony penning events for 90 years and is currently taking place: http://www.chincoteague.com/pony_swim... and http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/na...
