Buddy Reads
I am reading a few classics this summer so if anyone wants to Buddy Read with me just say. Here is what I'm reading:Treasure Island
For Whom the Bell Tolls
Wuthering Heights
Lucky Jim
The Assistant
Moby-Dick or, The Whale
Peter Pan
The Color Purple
David Copperfield
Persuasion
Tess of the D'Urbervilles
Nostromo
The Lost World
Little House on the Prairie
A few?!?! You've got to be kidding!! LOL I'm going to read Treasure Island for Halloween. A GR friend's comment to me was "Nothing says Halloween like pirates!" I would love to read Persuasion with you, but maybe later ... August perhaps. Have so many going now, don't know how I'll finish them all.
I am basically just reading, eating and sleeping as I am on my summer holiday till beginning of september! I have nearly 3 months of free time, though I am doing some work experience this week and next buyt that's it really.OK, I will probably hold back persuasion till August but I'll read Treasure Island soon as it is from the library and I expect they will want it back!
:-) I downloaded free copies of Treasure Island (2 b/c the first was a kid's version & I didn't realize it). I own nice copies of most of the Austen books. I did hope to get to Persuasion this year so this will help me stay on track. It is so much more fun to read with friends. Let me know how you like Treasure Island.
Desiree wrote: "Uh I'm sorry what exactly is buddy read? The way I see it, reading with a friend? In this case, an online friend? Sending messages to talk about the book that has been read together?"Basically a topic will be made like in the group reads and you read a book with two or more people from this group. It is basically a read which is not one of our official monthly group reads.
I would like to read Persuasion, David Copperfield, The Color Purple, For Whom The Bell Tolls OR Wuthering Heights. But I am very slow reader, so I may want to go with really a slow pace.
Let me know Nicolle, what you think.
Hi Nicolle, I love your buddy reads idea. I'm interested in reading The Lost World, Treasure Island and Wuthering Heights, let me know when are you going to start reading those books.I'm planning, no, I mean I'm going to read The Arabian Nights: Tales from a Thousand and One Nights this coming Monday until Friday after I finish reading Madame Bovary. If anyone interested please feel free to comment. Have fun, everyone!
Sure Martha, when are we going to start in October? I'm going to mark my reading calendar in advance and lets wait Nicolle's reply.
OK, will try my best to do the following:-Read Treasure Island in October.
-The Lost World at the end of September.
-The Colour Purple probably in October too.
Anyone else feel free to make buddy reads together!
I already read The Color Purple and it was one of my favorites this year. I have a friend who always suggest that book to anyone and I'm glad I loved it! Sweet reads. When exactly are we going to start The lost World?
Anytime in October will work for me. I have 4 picked out to read for Halloween. The other classic is Frankenstein if anyone's interested in that. The other 2 aren't really classics ... well, maybe Hell House is a modern one??
Totally interested in Buddy Reads....Just let me know who wants to read what...I am up for anything!!!!
Buddy reads with the following books:-The Lost World by Arthur Conan Doyle (Nicolle) on September 25

@Martha: I'm interested in reading Frankenstein in October and I also checked Halloween in Wikipedia, if you are interested we can read it on October 31st for 24 hours. If you want to, if not, I'm fine with any date. Hehe. (Sorry, we don't celebrate Halloween here in the Philippines. Hikhik.)

Ok Announcement: Jane Eyre is going to start on September the 12th!! For all that wish to join mark it on your Calendars!!!!
I will join the Jane Eyre discussion with ya'll since I very recently finished it & it's fresh in my head. =)
Courtney - I think you like the little house books :-) I agree they never get old. I read them every couple of years too. Usually when it starts to get cold and I smell wood smoke in the air.
I'm wanting to try Edgar Rice Burroughs, The Lost Continent after "The Lost world" starts to fade, but no so long I can't get the chance to compare the two.
So, if The Woman in Black: A Ghost Story doesn't win for the group read, anyone want to read it with me?!
Sometime in October? I've finished the Hobbit, and am Buddy Reading Frankenstein starting October 1...but I think I could do both. Want to start around the 15th?
I would like to read it, but October is pretty full for me, too. Is it available as a free download? I'll have to check it out.
I'm not sure about the free download...and I'm thinking maybe November? Sounds like it might be more open for us..I started a new thread, feel free to join along:)
