Kogiopsis Dictionary.com defines 'feminism' as: "the doctrine advocating social, political, and all other rights of women equal to those of men." It's commonly associated with the 70s and 80s, when there was a push in the U.S. to get the Equal Rights Amendment ratified. The ERA failed, but feminism is still a hot topic today, especially in terms of young adult books.

So, here's your debate topic: is feminism still relevant to modern society?

Abby (ibelonginoz) | 22 comments I'm hoping I'm understanding the definition right, so anyway, I think that it still is relevant considering the fact that in many aspects of life women aren't equal to men. I think we still have the double set of morals for men and women that we had in the 19th century.

Shep I agree with Abby. There are still lots of double standards.

emily*the ninja queen of implication* (THENINJA) | 22 comments Well, sexism is a big thing today, as it has always been, and if something doesn't change, will always be a big thing. But there is a difference between trying to establish that change and feminism. I'm a person that would like things to be equal, but I see feminism activists trying to make females more important than males. Yes, I'm tired of getting crap from guys about how I'm a girl and that makes me worth less than them, but if girls are ever going to be equal, we need to be that change. We can't dictate things to make us better, we just need to speak up.

I completely agree with everything you said...We do need to speak up. Though it annoys me when females use the whole 'I'm just a poor, innocent girl" act when they want to get someone or annoy/enrage people then cry racism when people treat them differently then a male.
