Again. Another segment. This one is more for little kids but I hope you can understand that!

Clover padded through the dewy grass her red collar gleaming in the sunshine she couldn't believe that today she would be starting a new life in a new house her senses told her that this was a good thing and she agreed with them nothing could turn her world upside down now right? How very wrong she was.
“CLOVER!” came a scream from the door of the house – which was covered in vines and peeling blue paint - and another dog that looked just like clover came bounding up it was Daisy she was full of energy and oddly very good fashion sense so much in fact that she would probably be the first dog to make America's next top model. Daisy looked very happy and as she came her features came more clear Daisy was the same type of dog Clover was what exactly the type of dog it was remains unknown. Clover and Daisy were best friends and they were also soon to find out the solvers of a mysterious crime. There collars were almost exactly the same although Clovers had much more writing on it reading something about a great grandmother or other. Clover and Daisy were standing near a thicket something in which Daisy was eyeing deviously, “Its so awesome that we're here together for the whole summer!” Clover exclaimed ignoring the whole fact that there was a thicket behind her. Daisy fidgeted but didn't say anything. “Next weeks its Jordana's - Jordana was Clovers owner and often went by Jordi - birthday and we're celebrating it on Monday together!” Clover drawled on, Daisy looked anxious but let Clover continue.
“So then Jordi's mom said that we might not come because of her piano lessons” Clover was now talking about a different subject and Daisy wasn't even sure what it was.
At this point a delivery man carried a red box covered in yellow stars and placed the box on the lawn Clover stopped to stare at it but continued and Daisy didn't even notice her eyes were now firmly glued to the thicket which seemed to almost glow in her eyes. “My collar is made out of real bronze and its descended all the way from my great grandmother Lily she was...”
but Daisy didn't care what she was she'd had enough “I DON'T CARE CLOVER IF YOU HAVEN'T NOTICED THERES A THICKET BEHIND YOU AND I CAN'T WAIT TO TEAR IT A PART!”

It's not that important... well I guess it is if you read the story as a whole but Daisy the dog basically wanted to tear it apart and didn't want to listen to Clover drawl on and on and on and on... yeah you get the idea.

Fruits Basket... YESH! Well, talking animals obviously means that I'm going to post something Furuba related. For those who don't know the Sohma family are cursed to transform into respective Chinese Zodiac forms when hugged by non-cursed members of the opposite gender. Yuki's the Rat and Kyo's the Cat. Tohru's normal. That's really all you need to know aside from the fact that Yuki and Kyo hate each other. Title: Let's Play a Game (shrugs, I really couldn't think of a title...)

Kyo smirked evilly, hiding something behind his back. “I say we play a game tonight.”
Yuki looked up from his place at the kotatsu table. “Why?”
“Oh! That sounds like fun! We should!” Tohru looked excited as she jumped up with her pile of homework balanced precariously in her arms. “I’ve just finished. I’ll be right back and then we can start.”
After she had gone, Yuki couldn’t help but glare at Kyo. “I don’t like that stupid look on your face, Cat. What sort of game exactly are you going to subject us to?”
“I never said you had to play, did I? For all I care you can just—”
“I’m back!” Tohru cried, her arms now emptied. “What are we—Ah!” She tripped over her own feet, falling on top of Yuki. Grey smoke clouded the area where Yuki once was and cleared away leaving a grey rat behind.
Kyo scoffed and then grinned to himself. “Perfect.”
“Are you all right, Yuki-kun?” Tohru asked, scooping him up in her hands and wondering if she had harmed him in her fall.
“He’s fine, I’m sure,” Kyo snapped. “Besides, he might enjoy the game more that way.”
“Honda-san asked me, you stupid cat.” He turned back to Tohru, softening his voice from the harsher tone he’d used for Kyo. “I’m fine. You don’t need to worry.”
Kyo scowled. “Look, are we going to play the game or not?”
“Oh, of course we are,” Tohru said, sitting down at the table and setting Yuki on the tabletop next to her.
“Don’t yell at Honda-san,” Yuki said, annoyed with Kyo. “She didn’t do anything wrong.”
“Whatever.” The smirk he’d worn earlier returned as he set the box down on the table. “Mouse Trap!” he proclaimed. “Ha! Take that, you Rat!”
Yuki took a moment to be irritated and then smiled inwardly. “You just proved how incredibly stupid you are, I hope you realize. I’m a rat not a mouse. Maybe you should learn how to tell the difference.”

Another one... And longer too. Sorry about that. Same characters as above. This time its important to know that Yuki's mother sold him to a person named Akito who mentally and physically tormented him for ten years of his life. During that time, no one really seemed to care what happened to him. Also (~) signify flashback thoughts and thoughts in general. Title: If Normal People Knew

Tohru let out a scream which brought both Yuki and Shigure running.

"Honda-san? Is something wrong?" Yuki looked at her with concern.

Tohru blushed. "I'm sorry. But there was a… there was a rat! In the house!"

Yuki's eyebrows shot up. "Really? I didn't know there was one around. That's strange."

Shigure smirked. "That makes two then doesn't it…" He stroked his chin seriously for a moment and then started laughing uncontrollably.

Yuki glared at him.

"Eh? What's so funny? It scared me and it shouldn't be in the house! Who wants a rat around? Just get it out!" Tohru looked from one to the other trying to understand.

Yuki's eyes seemed to widen just a bit but then he gave her a sympathetic smile. "It's all right Honda-san. I'll take care of it."

Tohru nodded. "You're so kind, Sohma-kun." She had just started to put her mind to breakfast when a small scratching of feet could be heard. Tohru leaped five feet in the air when she saw the rat return from wherever it had run to before. "It's back!" she shrieked.

"Of course, it's back," Shigure said calmly. "Look who's in the room."

Tohru was confused. "Eh?"

"Pay him no mind, Honda-san," Yuki said as he bent down with an outstretched hand to the rat at his feet. "Come here, little one. We don't want to scare Honda-san." The rat crawled into his waiting palm, looking up at Yuki calmly.

Tohru heard a sad undertone and wondered why Yuki would feel sad.

~:~

Yuki held out his hand for the rat. "So this is the girl I worked all night for?" it asked.

"Come here, little one. We don't want to scare Honda-san."

Wasn't this what Akito had told him? ~"If normal people knew your secret it would sicken them. They'd stay away from you."~ It wasn't true, was it? He glanced up and saw Tohru as far away from the rat in his hand as she could be. ~"You would be forced to live alone."~

He clenched his other hand into a fist, allowing his fingernails to dig into his skin. No. It couldn't be true. It couldn't be. He'd spent his whole childhood trying to deny these things, to block out the poisonous words and had only been overcome and ruled by them. Were they true?

Calmly, Yuki stood up in silence and went outside with his rat friend in his hands.

"Don't be sad," the rat offered. "I've heard it's widely known that most humans don't like rats. This is nothing new."

Yuki looked down at the furry creature. "And Honda-san is one of them." He might as well resign to his fate. No normal person could ever truly care about him. Yuki squeezed his eyes closed, holding back the tears that wanted to spill over.

He, Yuki Sohma, would not cry.

The rat nuzzled up against his wrist. "I'm sorry. You'll always have us though." The rat scampered off, looking back once in concern.

Yuki sat there for a few minutes, trying to regain his composure before returning to the house. When he re-entered, his mask was once again firmly in place.

~THE NEXT MORNING~

Tohru was in shock. They were cursed? It didn't matter. She would hold their secret deep in her heart as a dangerous and precious thing, never to be shared without permission. Tohru exited the girls' locker room, happily changed into her now clean uniform.

"Honda-san, may I speak with you?" Yuki's voice took her by surprise and Tohru jumped a little.

"Oh! Sohma-kun! I didn't see you there. Yes, please tell me anything you'd like to."

Yuki looked so sad and he seemed to be holding himself away from her like he had been ever since yesterday. She felt cut off from him and was grateful for the opportunity to make amends.

"You know now," he said. "You know about my family." He looked up at her and met her gaze with saddened amethyst eyes.

Yuki looked at her and felt every small hope he'd had since she'd come to live at Shigure's house slip away one by one. ~"It scared me and it shouldn't be in the house!"~

Each word had carried an individual sting although Tohru hadn't known. The hurt that had been weighing down Yuki's heart since worsened every hour.

~"Who wants a rat around?"~

"Honda-san, now that you know, maybe you would prefer that I not spend any more time with you."

~"Just get it out!"~

Yuki looked away, not wanting to see the confirmation of her rejection in her eyes. He'd seen it too many times. His own mother had turned from him after selling him into a painful childhood for her own gain. His brother had brushed him away the one time he'd asked for help.

And now, Tohru would reject him. ~"Who wants a rat around? Just get it out!"~

Akito was right; nobody wanted or needed him.

A small hand came to rest on his shoulder and he found Tohru looking at him with tear-filled eyes.

"Please, don't stay away from me, Sohma-kun! I want you near to me, always."

Yuki felt hope regain his heart a little from aching pain. "But, yesterday with the rat you were terrified." Dogs and cats were different; they weren't rodents, but loved and cherished animals. Nobody screamed if a dog or a cat crossed their path. A rat, though, they set a trap for it and laid out poison. No one wanted a rat.

Tohru shook her head. "That was because I was scared. But I'm not scared of you, Sohma-kun. I want you close to me in whatever form you have. I don't care if you're a rat."

Hope had almost won over the pain.

Unexpectedly, Tohru wrapped her arms around him. For a blessed two seconds he felt her arms around him and then he was leaping to the suddenly distant floor. He looked down the hallway and was relieved to see that no one was there.

Tohru scooped him up and held him close to her face, "I'm sorry, but I wanted to prove that I can love a rat, Sohma-kun."

She nuzzled his small rat face, and Yuki felt the pain melt away, taken over not only by hope, but also by the knowledge that some one wanted him even after they knew.

~"…it would sicken them. They'd stay away from you."~

In a quiet voice, he asked, "You aren't 'sickened' by me, then?"

Tohru shook her head. "No, I don't think I ever could be. Please, will you always be my friend?"

Yuki's eyebrows shot up and his heart sped. Without warning, he felt his body phase back.

"Ack!" Tohru let a brief cry of alarm, blushed, and spun around.

After he had dressed and they were walking down the hall together, Yuki said quietly, "Thank you, Honda-san."

"For what, Sohma-kun?"

Yuki only smiled. For a moment he closed his eyes. ~You're wrong, Akito. I do not sicken everybody. People want me near to them.~

Talking To Animals

For those who don’t have pets
won’t know what I mean,
but for those who do
will know just what I mean.
I am not Doctor Dolittle,
but I talk to animals all the time
and they talk back to me.
That to some may sound crazy
while others will know
what I am talking about.
I had a friend once
and he never had a pet of any sort.
He did a small collection round
and one evening while out
he knocked on this particular door.
The owner’s cat lay on the doorstep
having comfortable forty winks.
My friend knelt down and stroked him
then he asked the cat.
Meow once if they are in
and twice if they are not.
The cat meowed twice.
My friend thanked the cat
and then went next door.
They answered after his first knock
and the first words they said were
next door are not in.
My friend replied I know,
their cat told me.
At which they looked at him strangely
as if he were a bit crazy.
However, I believed him
having cats of my own.
I talk to them all the time
and they talk right back to me.
